Entry 1: s**t's Coming Along....

My raver life has been a little quiet as of late. About a month ago, I took my friend Kat to Orpheus because they were having a ravers-and-gamers night. She brought her finger lights along, and we played with those for awhile. We also re-encountered the guy who gave me my first lightshow back at Repo Night, and I gave him kandi - my "Press X To Dash" single, to be precise - and an enormous HUG. He also borrowed Kat's lights and melted our brains a little. I gave out a few more singles, and many a compliment. Came back from that very happy.

I've been making more kandi lately, and I got beads, string, and glowsticks recently. I think I'm starting to break free of that damned kandi block. I also want to make patterns for picture cuffs, specifically ones relating to Doctor Who. I know Daleks aren't the most PLUR thing in the universe, not by a long shot, but I'd love to go out with one on my arm.

I also need to get a move on with that Raver B thing I want to do... Hot Topic currently has a t-shirt with blood splatters on it that would be perfect for my intents and purposes. Anime USA is coming up, and the Head Kandi folks will be there, so I'm gonna go, and I'm gonna ask them how much it'd be to commission them to put falls on a wig for me. I also need to get a pair of jeans and some flame fabric. And make that blasted B cuff.

... I just need to learn how to make patterns for cuffs. And I need to meet more kandi kids, get together with them, and throw a kandi party. I'll bring popcorn and movies!!!

OH YEAH. One more thing. When I went to Orpheus with Kat, I had to take my birth control pills with me so that I could take it at 10:00 when I normally take it... and I felt so awkward because I was taking a pill in a club at a ravelike event. I was afraid security guards were gonna eat me. And then I broke Nora's zipper and I feel really, really bad about that! Poor Nora... Kat says she can fix her, though.

Entry 3: October N-Code - Tips for Success.

This past Friday was N-Code again at Orpheus, and Kat and I went out again.

PROTIP: Make sure your phone is in ship shape, and notify interested parties at least a few days in advance.

Kat's phone was being screwy, and thus we couldn't get Tasia on board with us. Also, I didn't charge my phone enough before leaving, and by morning, the battery had died.

PROTIP: Plan well to avoid pain and stress.

When I got out of class, I had to power-shower in order to prepare for the night ahead. That took longer than I expected, and I freaked out. Not good.
Kat and I went out to the mall before we went to Orpheus. We walked there. Whoops. By the time we returned, our legs and feet hated us, and I had a sore ankle all day yesterday.
Also, I failed to read chapters 19 and 20 in Deathly Hallows before I left for the club, and when I finally returned to my computer yesterday, Mark had posted his reviews of chapters 19 and 20. It took me until today to catch up, and I'm waiting on him to post chapter 21 HE POSTED IT, CAPSLOCK PARTY TIME.

PROTIP: At least for N-Code nights, ladies get in free before 10:30.

Kat and I got there around 9:30, didn't have to pay. There were a few people out on the floor already, including some we recognized. We started dancing almost immediately. We were having a ball.

PROTIP: If someone comes around with a clipboard and says "SIGN UP," make sure you know what you're signing up for first.

Kat and I didn't ask what we were signing up for, and we were accidentally entered into the Mortal Kombat tournament. Granted, that was okay, because there was a $50 GameStop gift card as the prize for winning, but the problem was that neither of us had ever played before. So we had to button-mash. Both of us put up a decent fight, but neither of us won our rounds.

PROTIP: Bring tradeable kandi, your singing voice, and your sense of humor.

I didn't wear as much kandi this time around as I did last time. On the one hand, most of my kandi is brightly colored and rather happy-looking, and would have clashed splendidly with a bloody t-shirt and Tripp pants. On the other hand, there were more kandi kids there this time, and I didn't have as much tradeable material to exchange with them. Both parts of this problem made me kinda sad.
There were a few points during the night where we had some singalongs. At one point, the music cut out due to technical difficulties, and a nice big Rickroll singalong began. That was fun. We also sang along with "Oh No You Didn't, a few remixes that had words, "Stupid MF", "DotA", and that one song I don't know the name of that goes "Face down, a** up, that's the way we like to ******** far as the sense of humor goes... well, with a song like the last one I mentioned, you kinda need to have a sense of humor to not be offended by a bunch of people yelling out those lyrics. But, what I meant was, my friend Mike came up to me and said, "Hey, I've got candy." He didn't mean raver kandi. He had Dum-Dums sticking out of the fishnet shirt he was wearing. I laughed and took one. The mango flavored ones are actually really, really good. ^^<3

PROTIP: Stay hydrated. When they scalp you, cheat if you can.

The bar charges a buck for a little plastic cup of ice and water. This is okay once or twice, but if you really want to stay hydrated and not go splat on the dance floor, you're going to need to do this several times. It gets expensive. Save that money for the ride home by ducking into the bathroom, turning on the sink, cupping your hands beneath the water flow, and drinking from your hands.

PROTIP: If you're texting people about what an awesome time you're having, text them, move on, and don't worry about it.

I didn't do this and it almost ruined my night. I texted Bryce and Bree a few times, and when neither of them responded, I called both of them. When they didn't pick up their phones, I was very sad. So sad that I almost didn't want to continue dancing.

PROTIP: Make sure your shoes are safe to wear.

Kat and I have discussed appropriate padding for our shoes before... and it's about damn time I heed her advice, because when I got back, my feet were very unhappy with the idea of being contained in my shoes. Until I can get my Vans fixed, they're the only shoes I can wear without having to deal with frozen toes, so... gah, damn it.

PROTIP: Socialize. That's what these events are for.

I saw several people that I know at the club. Some are just regular attendees, and others are friends of mine. For instance, a friend of my boyfriend's who I haven't seen in awhile recognized me and I ended up hugging the crap out of her and giving her a piece of my kandi. Also, it's a lot of fun to be a compliment faerie. Throughout the night, I saw many people wearing awesome stuff and I complimented them on it.

PROTIP: Choose your cab company wisely.

The cab we caught back to school this time was a bit more expensive than the one we took last time. However, when we split the fare, it wasn't too terrible. She said that there were other cab companies that were cheaper; I believe she said the diamond ones? I can't quite remember though.

When we got back to school at 2-ish, I crashed in Kat's room because my roomie was getting up at 6 to go home for break, and neither of us wanted that kind of a sleep disturbance. Kat lent me her pajamas, her crochet Tenth Doctor doll, and her bed. Looking back a day later, this is a great example of what PLUR should be. I'm very happy that we went!

Heheh, thank you Azn~

On a completely unrelated note: I've found a color pattern that I like, and I plan to make some tradeable kandi with it. I'm also waiting here for a kandi-making chill-sesh with Kat. When she gets here, we're gonna chill and make s**t! heart

Entry 5: Antici........Pation!

Ten days.

Ten days from now, there will be a whole lot of epic in my life.

Today is November 9, 2010. In ten days, the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows hits theaters. Well, actually nine days, one hour, and five minutes, give or take. But I'm not going to the midnight showing, unfortunately. I have too much to get through between now and then, and I'm going to want to be asleep around that time.

I started a philosophy paper about a small passage from a Judith Butler essay about twenty-four hours ago. I slept for seven hours and then finished the paper about twelve hours ago. Tomorrow, I have a rather nasty French exam staring me down. I have to remember quotes, authors, and probably dates. Thursday, I need to have three pages of my big English research paper done. Friday, I will probably have a quiz in History, and my application to study abroad is due. Friday night and Saturday, my roommate is hosting a prospective student in our dorm. Sunday will be a study day. Monday, I have my third psychology exam. I have readings due for History on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of next week.

I've also joined kanditrade.net (finally), and I appear to have committed myself to making an "Oh s**t Swine Flu" necklace for meowfishie. This will probably be something similar to my ducky necklace: a phattie necklace with a light-up, noise-making animal keychain charm hanging from it. This prospect is slightly intimidating, but I can handle it. Unlike my schoolwork, I can safely hold off on this project until Thanksgiving break without jeopardizing my GPA.

These next ten days are going to be rough, confusing, challenging. I'll likely be ripping out hair. But it'll all be worth it when I hit next weekend.

Next Friday, November 19, is November's N-Code. I'm going, Kat's going, she might be bringing Tasia, and I might try and convince a girl from my French class to come too. I have a small pile of tradeable kandi made up and ready to go for this event. I'm so excited to have finally broken my kandi block. Finally, finally, I am ready to combine beads and string once again!!

I'm excited for N-Code, but I'm also a little bit sad. More than likely, next Friday will be the last rave I attend this semester. If my calculations are correct, N-Code will be held again on December 17. That's the last day of my semester. I believe the residence halls close for winter break somewhere around midnight that night. I would have no place to stay unless I could convince Bryce to come with me and my parents to let me spend the night at his house. More than likely, any attempt to suggest that would cause my mother to throw an almighty conniption fit. Do not want.

Next Saturday, November 20, is my friend Kate's birthday party. We are celebrating her birthday with dinner and a movie. What movie, you ask? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, OF COURSE! If you ask me, the movie is going to be an excellent way to let off all the built-up steam of two ridiculously crazy weeks. For one thing, it's Harry Potter. For another, this film will encompass a whole lot of seriously emotional content.

It will make me cry. Many, many times. And honestly, by the looks of the next ten days, I'm going to need a good cry.

Next Sunday, November 21, I will likely spend half the day sleeping. xD After two weeks of antici...............pation of Friday and Saturday, I'm going to need a lot of sleep to recover. Hopefully, if I get enough sleep that day, I can revitalize myself enough to power through the three weeks of classes that will remain after that, and finals week thereafter.

Final note: For those of you who don't get the reference I'm making in the title of this entry and in the final paragraph: It's a Rocky Horror Picture Show reference.
"So, come up to the lab, and see what's on the slab. I see you shiver, with antici......................pation! But maybe the rain isn't really to blame. So I'll remove the cause... but not the symptom!"

Entry 6: March 5, 2011

I act like an overly-friendly kitten sometimes, but I would never go so far as to call myself a furry. I don’t have that kind of devotion to the kitty-cat behaviors I display sometimes (okay a lot more frequently than sometimes) but I have no problem whatsoever with furries. What’s this got to do with anything, you ask? Well, Orpheus had a furry/rave night last night and since it was Kat’s 21st birthday, we decided to put on our cat ears and go out and celebrate. And dance.

We were a bit late getting out there, but that’s okay. I got a chance to sit in the Ath and crack open my HP Lovecraft book. Yes, I was reading Lovecraft before going out to a rave, don’t judge me okay. “The Rats in the Walls” to be precise. I had a couple of OHGOD moments triggered by dead/rotten/corpsey things, but other than that I wasn’t too terribly freaked out. And, luckily, no nightmares yet.

When Kat arrived, we took a cab and listened to classical music on the way there. When we got there, I didn’t immediately feel like dancing, so I sat down. Almost immediately thereafter, this girl sat down next to me who was cosplaying Gin Ichimaru from Bleach, and we got to talking and stuff. And then I got up, and we danced, and was happy. I bequeathed unto her one of my favorite tradeable singles later. I told her not to forget me; I hope she doesn’t.

There was also a girl who had a hoop. First time I’d seen a hooper at Orpheus. She was wearing a bikini top. Later, she took said bikini top off. I gave her one of my Glowing Sweat singles in honor of the fact that that was the first time I’d seen a topless female at an Orpheus rave. =3

Since it was a furry-themed rave, there were artists upstairs offering to do commissioned art for people’s fursonas. I don’t have a fursona, so there’s no point in me asking for art of something I don’t have. However, one of these artists offered me a set of 36 Pokemon stickers for $15. In starry-eyed awe, I went OMG STICKERS YAAAAAAY!!! and pounced on the deal.

One thing I’ve noticed about me and raves, at least at Orpheus, is that I tend to socialize about as much as I dance. I pop outside and talk to people, I sit and talk to people, I give hugs. And when I see people with big kandi, I squeal and approach them and say “Hi, may I admire this? I don’t see big huge kandi very often.” I like talk to people, and hopefully make friends. And when I dance, I just let the music take over my body completely. By which I mean I either a) flail around like an idiot, or b) pretend to be sexy. Oh, and sometimes glowsticks are included. x3

I’ve also noticed that I need to start carrying a pen and some form of paper with me to raves. Last time I went, I came up with the “wibbly wobwobwobbly music” meme idea, and had to borrow a promo card in order to write it down so I wouldn’t forget. This time, I had to ask the bartender for a peice of paper to write a note to one of the DJs thanking him for playing Pretty Rave Girl. That song means a lot to me for several reasons. One, because it reminds me of the girl I met at my very first rave, back at Otakon 2007. Two, because over MSN once, Breana mock-proposed to me with a glowstick and asked me to be her pretty rave girl. So when that song came on, my heart sort of exploded a little. (Not literally, mind you.) I mentally dedicated the song to Breana, sang along, and danced my heart and soul out. Then I went outside, called her, and told her that in my mind and in my heart, that song was for her.

Shortly after 1:00, one of the straps on my coffin backpack broke. Not the shattered-kandi-beads-flying-everywhere kind of break; the ring that held it on kind of came out of the loop it was attached to. That’s when Kat and I decided it was time to leave. So we gathered our belongings, gave out a few final hugs, and hopped in a cab to get back to school. We got back around 2 AM, and when I returned to residence hall, I observed that someone had written the word “CLOM” on the walls of our hallway. Rachel looked it up; Clom is the name of a planet in Doctor Who. I close my entry with this: Who the hell would decide to get drunk and scribble Doctor Who references on the walls?!

Loving the new entry to your night. Raves sure seem to be adding alot of new elements and are different than what they used to be.
