I can never seem to title anything I write. Chapeters, stories, what have you. Whole works is a bigger problem. I can call things "Chapter 1". How do most people come up with titles? It's getting complicated to refer to things by character names, especially since I have a friend who cannot remember a character's name for the life of him. I was just looking for some tips of titling stuff.

You'll pray for my salvation, and I will pray for yours... I personally just play with the words in my head. I think of phrases, plays-on-words, character names, and after just saying things out loud for about 10 minutes, I come up with a real winner. If only my writing matched my titles. I still have trouble with titling things, but if a story is in first person, I try to get into the protagonists head, thinking what would my character call the story. If the author can't come up with something, ask the writing!
... And the first one to heaven can open all the doors.

I have a hard time coming up with titles too. With short stories, I usually pick a sentence or funny saying and make that my title. However, I prefer just numbering chapters.

What I do for titles is, I look though the book/story for a couple words put together that I like and then use that as the title. Or the last words of the book/story. For chapters, I think to myself, What made me think of writing this chapter, specifically? Then that is my chapter title. Or like what the person is eating at the time the problem is told. But that can be tricky. Don't title something broccoli. But you can title it "Dinner"

This might be a bit excessive, but whenever I can't think of a title right away I either write a poem or think what a poem pertaining to my story would sound like. Poems are generally more succinct and can produce the little phrases that I think have good ring to them. Those become titles. ~

I'm very weird about picking titles. I almost never go about titling the same way twice.
I wrote a novel and titled it Lucky You because my main character's name is Clover. I finally decided on it because it didn't have a whole lot of meaning behind it, but it still was a play on words that fit with the whole book.
