She threw her keys on the table that stood alone by the door. The smell of dusty neglect filled her senses as she walked past stacks of cardboard boxes that lined the hallway. She'll unpack it all later. Right now, she just wanted to relax. She doesn't expect visitors, although people had the habit of dropping into her life when they were least expected.

She slouched on the couch and dug for the remote. The flat screen came to life as commercials filled the silence. She dragged her back pack beside her and ripped open the zipper, listening to it scream in protest. "Homework," she sighed.
