Am I new?: Indeed I am, and fairly lost.
What about witchcrat that interests me?: I had been born into Christianity, but it never called to me. I want to learn about my inner spirit, and about everything that's around us, how to heal and be helpful.
What Path interests me?: I've thought there wasn't much difference due to misinformation, but now I know that there is. I thin Neo-pagan interests me the most, but right now I'm open to learn all I can.
What would I like to learn from this guild?: In general, I'd want to learn the basics to magick, history, mythiology, and spells. Then when I learned that to the best I can, I want to advance to more once I'm certain what Path I want to journey.

Well, that's what this guild is here for. ^^ I hope we can be of help to you as you continue down whatever path you choose.

Technically, witchcraft isn't a religion, it is a craft and can be practiced by anyone regardless of religious belief. Yes, even Christians. But this is both a witch and pagan guild so its still the right place. However, you must realize that "Paganism" is not really a religion but a category of many religions.

Once again, "Neo-Paganism" (like plain paganism) is not one religion but many. Most of them are modern versions of an older religion, trying to recreate an old religion but altering it to fit the modern world. Some examples would be Kemetism (Egyptian re-creation), Hellenismos (Greek re-creation) and Celtic Reconstructionism. There are others, but I think this gives you a decent sample.

And then there's also Eclectic Neo-Paganism which is when a person takes bits and pieces from other pagan faiths and haphazardly sews them together.

Well, I don't think we can teach you magick unless you choose to follow Thelema and I'm not sure if we have any Thelemites in this guild (yet). But we can help you learn magic and give you information and advice on different paths.

I know it isn't technically a religion, but it's easier to think so for me at the moment to call it that rather than simply practice or craft. Though in time I'll get out of that habit. Thank you for answering back, I had been lost on how to get started since I realized that I wasn't in any way a Christian (I completely have issues with everything in the bible, though I won't critic on it). I have a book called 'Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner' and it does help on some level, but all-in-all, it's still just one book, and no libraries around here don't have any books on any paths. So I want to learn and ask on things that confuses me.

I've never read it, but that book is probably more about either general witchcraft or Eclectic neo-paganism rather than Wicca. Wicca is a secretive and oathbound mystery religion and not much (if anything) can be learned about it from published books. Wicca must be learned in a coven.

Its also for that same reason that there's really no such thing as "solitary Wicca" or a "solitary Wiccan". It is impossible to learn and practice the rites and rituals of Wicca on your own. Most books that claim the title of "Wicca" misappropriate the term and are really just Eclectic neo-paganism.

That doesn't mean its a bad path mind you. It just means that you have to be careful with what you read and what you choose ot believe from those books. Allot of Eclectic writes that misuse the title Wicca or Wiccan don't do their research and fill their books with misinformation.

It can be very confusing for someone who's new.

Like I've said, I don't have much information. Unfortunately all my friends that were of the crafts moved away before I wanted to learn, and my mother believes that she has control over what I believe in for until I move out. I hope that will be soon, though before I can move to Canada and learn with my significant other, I have to move to Michigan and learn in my aunt's trade so that I can start working and earning money.

Hopefully I can still learn from here, if any would be willing to help a little. *Shakes head* So everything is very confusing.

It definitely can be very confusing! Good for you for trying your best to learn and be educated, and this is definitely a good place to start! I'm guessing the book you're talking about is Cunningham's?

Cunningham is a really great eclectic neo-pagan author. I'm very sad by the fact that he chose to call his teaching's "Wicca" when it's not because the rest of what he writes is very good information. I also find it odd, because he refers to his own practices as "The Standing Stone Tradition", so then why slap the name Wicca to it? But I digress... Basically, if you're going to read his work, just replace every time he says Wiccan/Wicca with Pagan/paganism and you're good to go.

If his book appeals to you, he does have a sequel called "Living Wicca". Just again, don't buy into the name- it's NOT Wicca, but the rest of it is pretty good information.

I also would recommend Spiral Dance by Starhawk.

Are you new to witchcraft?
Yes I am. My husband has been practicing since he was younger. I am still getting into. Trying to find my niche still. :/

What about witchcraft interests you?
Well....I love the being able to see the magic in anything. Especially nature. Heh...I sometimes think a rock is even magical. As of right now I am not practicing spells and rituals. I have done a couple with my husband and friends: I find them amazing.

What sort of paths are you interested in?
Not sure at the moment

What would you like to learn from a guild like this?
I like to know how others practice their religion especially with Pagan and Wiccan since mostly EVERYONE is different in some way shape and or form. I also love learning news things. smile

Well, technically, witchcraft isn't a religion. You don't have to be pagan to be a witch and you don't have to be a witch to be pagan.

I, for example, am a solitary witch that combines kappoujutsu with witchcraft, but I am not pagan. Likewise, there are plenty of pagan members of the guild that don't practice witchcraft in the least.

Let me rephrase that....I enjoy learning about religion and also how others practice their beliefs. smile
