Zoje ran down the stairs in 5s as she headed towards the sounds of the dragon chick getting accustomed to its body. She froze when she saw it. It was midnight black with wings that were much to large for its body at this stage. It sensed her and looked up at her with big golden eyes. She smiled and walked towards it.

Several hours later Volrath comes up behind the headmaster still limping slightly. "be careful, it doesn't have any conrtol of it's fire yet. I wasn't expecting it hatched yet, so i didn't have anything immediately ready, and it tried to eat me."

Zoje smiled "Aww Volrath I dont know what your talking about hes harmless." She walked over and stroked the dragons head. It made a purring noise.

Zoje led Ovan down the dark stairs to where the baby dragon lay sleeping.

She nodded "Yes he is cute. But thats not what I want to show you." She walked past the dragon who lifted his head and made w hining noise as she passed. She patted his head and kept walking. "Follow me" she called over her shoulder.

She felt her stomach turn as she entered the chamber, though she had been here before. She would never get over what was inside. She waited till Ovan was standing beside her to light a fire in her hand. There were hundreds of them. Men, women, children, their corpses piled everywhere like trash. "I found this this morning when I came to check on Jed. Theyve been dead for awhile but someone enchanted their bodies so they wouldnt decompose." she said her voice barely audible. She closed her eyes as to not see the vacant expressionless eyes all around her.

Ovan kissed her head then got to work, his face barely chaging as he did so. He lightly cut an arm open of a corpse, "Its not fermeldahide..." He said, "Look at this skin tissue, its not like anything ive ever seen before... Something entered through the skin, they were all saturated in a liquid. Their cloths either decomposed or were removed to avoid any recognition of when they were put here."

She shuddered "I dont even know how they got here, or why. Something happened here and someone didnt want anyone to find out."

"It must have been close," Ovan said quitly, "A simple mind would think they were dropped but... they were stacked too precisely to be dropped through a hole. Someone brought them down here. Or... up." Ovan looked around, "Look around for an opening, a hatch, anything!"

She nodded and began circling the room. She saw it. The door was almost invisible. "Ovan, Ive found something." She traced her fingers around the bricks that had been meticoulisly placed so they seemed to go along with the overall pattern.

Ovan put his hand over her shoulder and looked at it, "I dont know what we might find down here.... Are you ready?" He touched the floor with his free hand, ready to open it up.

She rubbed her hand over Eron's, her sword, hilt and nodded. "It has to be done sooner or later."
