Okay, so the majority of fictions that are published have heterosexual couples. What sexualities are your characters?

I write gay fiction so no surprise my two main characters are homosexual. Once I've included a lesbian but I don't write that area of the gay market.

All of my characters are heterosexual right now, but in the back of my head I know I'm going to throw a gay character into my story one day.
I would love to write a gay romance, but like everything else, it'll have to wait til I finish my main story.

I need to come up with something cooler to call my 'main story'... like my 'master script' or something. XD

Most of my characters are heterosexual. I have one who is bi, and one gay character who has no use in my current canon, so he is kind of lingering.

I also write gay romance- all though I'd like to try to make just the main characters gay, many of the others end up being that way too. So yes, most of my characters are homosexual.

But with my latest idea, I decided to leave out the romance aspect all together. So... honestly, I couldn't tell you whether most of the characters are homosexual or heterosexual >P. Maybe they'll surprise me.

xD! This made my day. I always thought the word 'story' in general sounded kind of lame. I hate using it to describe what I'm writing, but it's the broadest word for it XP.

Haha! Yes, as a writer, I feel like the phrase 'main story' is amature or something, because surely someone who writes can come up with more creative words to describe their work.
And I don't know your reasons for leaving out romance, but sometimes I love to avoid it cause I get so darn sick of it. Curse love triangles!

All mine are heterosexual... but my story is an adventurous fiction thing... so there's not even much of any romance, so it honestly doesn't matter - think them homosexual if you REALLY want to xd

Haha I'm just glad more and more people are starting to include the gay community, makes me really warm inside xD

Nomeira I agree totally, I hardly use story anymore. I just say it's a novel because it is really haha.

I'm not really a romance writer, although I admit it, my first novel was a romance (although there was a lot of violence and people getting their heads cut off too :p) Hmm...wow I don't think I've actually even written a gay couple, which is surprising. I'm a huge gay rights activist. But I'm not going to just make a gay character to have a gay character, that's too Affirmative Actioney for me. If my character decides to come out of my closet, he or she will tell me on his or her own.

Edit: I just remembered that I have a lesbian couple in a comic idea I have. And I have a few woman in some stories who straddle the line of bisexuality, but that's not as prevalent. I also have a closet heterosexual who tries to convince everyone she's a-sexual.

It's not from a written story (instead, it is from a comic), but I do have a homosexual character in one of my stories. In fact, he is the first one I've ever created. I didn't add him with the mindset of "Oh, I need to add this type of character", but instead he just kind of popped onto the paper that way. What I mean is, I drew him in a group picture and my brain said "This guy's homosexual". No real explanation for why my brain told me that, but it did. However, I have not gotten far enough into the story to introduce him (comics take longer to progress than written stories, in my experience).

The character-in-question is Bruno Schwarz, a 1st Lt. in the German Wehrmacht. As I said, he hasn't been introduced in the comic just yet, but already I am happy I have him. For one, he will allow me to address the unhappy issue that Nazi-Germany considered homosexuality to be an illness (he will be ratted out by a fellow Sr. Sgt. and then arrested by SS officers they meet along the way), plus, this is an issue that has been addressed more and more frequently in the news and such today: The "Don't-Ask-Don't-Tell" issue, and how people are speaking out against it, that people can be whoever they want to be and shouldn't have to be afraid about it if they are in the military. So, yeah, it's actually good that I will have him in my story. I'm looking forward to introducing him because he just seems like a great guy in general, not like the Sr Sgt who hates him who has a stick up his butt. stare

Anyway, besides him, all the rest of my characters are heterosexual. sweatdrop

That sounds very interesting Moyayuki! His story, set in the time it's set, seems to be very real. I've seen Lady Gaga go against the whole anti-gay military in America and I fully support her.
It is good you have these recent petitions to aid your story smile

Half my school was at that rally. No surprise, considering the majority of the Music and Theatre Departments is comprised of homosexuals.

Most of my pairs are heterosexual. There's only homosexual couple that I adore though. They're just so damn cute together! It's hard to resist their individual charms, and throwing them together just makes for a huge Phade Gigglefest.

Although I fancy the idea of putting homosexual characters in my story, it doesn't really fit the time period or the purpose of the story, so its probably not going to happen.
If I were to add a homosexual character, it would just seem like I was trying to make a statement about how I feel in regards to gays- not like he was an actual, useful, character.

Although there is some romance in my story, the issue of sexuality never really rears its pretty lil' head. No, none of my characters are distinctly homosexual (a few are distinctly heterosexual), but I'm pretty sure one of them is asexual. XD
PostPosted: Wed Oct 06, 2010 8:26 pm

I write heterosexual romance for my main story lines. I won't lie, that's what I'm comfortable with. I haven't branched far enough to have a gay main character. However, I tend make some of my supporting characters or sub characters gay. I usually put it in casually, to avoid drawing attention to the drama. I like my gay characters, but unless it's a plot device, I don't want the drama that often surrounds the topic to become a theme of the story.

So, if you read a gay character in my stories, you'll get this impression. "They're gay. Now there's an evil robot attacking. If you're still hung up on "gay" you'll miss the all the action that's happening now and this story will suck for you."

There are technically two gay characters in the story I'm co-writing, but one hasn't been introduced to the story yet and the other is more concerned about protecting and watching over his sister than bothering to think about his own sexuality, so he isn't outspoken about it at all. It's pretty much only vaguely hinted at as it is at the moment, but it might come more into play later on, when the other character is introduced (and even then, we're not sure how much it will come into play).

It's just interesting to think about. Like, when we first came up with the character, we didn't even consider the idea that he was gay. All we knew was that it didn't feel right pairing him with any of the other characters, and it developed from there through a series of "what-ifs" a few years down the road.
