I've been meaning to post this for a while,
and now I've finally gotten the chance.
It's nearly impossible for me to put into words
how amazing this camp truly is.
Nine years ago, my little sister was diagnosed with AML Leukemia.
This camp gave the two of us the opportunity to bond as sisters, away from parents,
and just be kids again without a worry in the world.
Estimated cost per child is $700,
but Camp Kemo is completely free for all the campers,
so parents who are already weighted down with medical bills, etc.
don't have to worry about how to come up with the money for their children to attend.
That means camp is run predominantly on donations.
This year we had 100+ campers!
The staff consists of volunteers who are absolutely amazing and come from all over the US.
This year I was able to return as a counselor-in-training,
and some of my counselors from eight years ago are still there!
There are nurses on the campus 24 hours all seven days of the week to care for the children,
doctors come out, and many of the staff members from the hospital do so as well,
not to mention the amazing people who have been making camp happen for the past years.
Camp is absolutely awesome.
One of the happiest memories I have of my little sister,
and I am so thankful that I am now part of that family again
so that I can make camp as special for future campers as it was for my sister and myself.
Enough of my raving, though.
If you click the banner above,
it should take you to the new website.
You can read about the history
and other programs related to Camp Kemo.
There is also a link to thier Facebook page,
and a link to
donate.
Sometimes the link on the website doesn't work for me,
so if you click donate there's a page there.
I'm not an expert, but I've participated in
Camp Kemo, Family Weekend, Siblings Day,
Toy Box Program, and Camp New Horizons.
So, if there are any questions,
I could do my best to answer, or find out.
