Khith yawned lazily as he opened his eyes, squinting against the bright morning light. Grumbling faintly, the white and brown male jumped to his feet, shaking out his fur before glancing around. Hmmm no pretties in sight, oh well that just meant he had time to find breakfast before going hunting for a pretty to spoil for the day.
Last night had been interesting, to say the least. As Palia sunned herself atop a termite mound, she reflected on her conquest. What was his name? Oh, it didn't matter. She streatched out her long, supple legs and released a contented yawn, flicking her ears. She supposed she should go looking for something to eat before the sun rose too high in the sky and the heat overtook the day. Naw, maybe later.
Khith crouched down, trying his best to slink like a feline as he got closer and closer to te unsupecting rabbit. As per the norm though, his hyperness won out over stealth and he lunged fro the rabbit barking like a mad thing only to have the rabbit kick off his nose and disappear down it burrow. He sat back on his rea with a startled whine, tryingto figur out how it had all gone wrong.
Palia cracked open her eyes with a low growl. Someone was disturbing her nap. Judging by all that barking, it was some kind of dog. Unfortunately, since she hadn't been paying attention, she couldn't tell where the ruckus was coming from. She lifted her head languidly and looked around, hoping to spot it before it spotted her.
She could hope in vain, Khith cocked his head studying the pretty. With a happy bark, he too off running, skidding to a stop before her, his whole body wiggling with the force of his tail wags. "Hello pretty!"
Palia's head whirled around. She stared at the wild dog with wide, disblelieving eyes. After half a second the shock passed and her lips slowly curled back, showing her pointed fangs. "What do you want, dog?"
He perked his ears just smiling up at her, his tongue lolling, "Hi pretty! Khith likes pretties! Pretty like Khith?"
"No." Palia pinned him with the most disdainful glare she could manage. This took very little effort on her part, for she was already furious at this stupid... thing... for waking her up only to bother her with its stupid fawning. She didn't give a damn about canines. These mangy dogs were always stealing her kills. Ordinarily they ran in packs, but for the moment this one seemed to be alone.

But...but...she said no? Khith gave a confused whimper, his big ears laying back as he tailed drooped, a picture of absolute misery. "But....Khith like pretty..." Why didn't the pretty like him? All the other pretties had liked him.
Gods, where to start? First of all, she wasn't a 'pretty', she was a person. Second of all, she was a cheetah, not some filthy canine. Third, where the hell did he learn to talk like that? Palia could respect a little variety in a person's accent but this guy couldn't even put together a proper sentence. Fourth, who talks in the third person? Did he realize how pompus he sounded? Or was he too stupid to figure it out? There was simply too much she could have said, so instead of trying to explain it all she let out a loud groan and hopped off her termite mound, hoping that Khith would get the message after she walked away.
The big male, whined confused for a moment then trotted after his new friend. "Is pretty hungry? Khith will catch pretty food. Does pretty want Khith catch pretty food?" Maybe if he got that rabbit the pretty one would like him then. It had worked before!
Palia stopped and gave Khith a look, her tail twitching sharply. Khith was quite annoying. She doubted he would really be any good at hunting, but she was hungry and all too lazy to do any hunting on her own. She sighed heavily, rolling her eyes. "Oh, alright then. If you can find me something to eat... maybe I'll stick around for a little while. I'm not making any promises."
That was all it took to set him off wiggling and barking happily, his whole butt wagging. "Pretty will see! Khith catch meal for pretty, then pretty like Khith!" Without giving her a chance to deny she would ever like him, the hyper male took off in a dead run for the last place he saw the rabbit....barking the whole time.
Palia sat down where she was, her ears plastered flat to her skull. That stupid dog. He was never going to catch anything if he kept barking like that. Still, it was kind of amusing to watch him. She just wished he would stop calling her Pretty. What a damned fool.

Prey scattered before the barking dog, sending him darting every which way trying to grab something, anything so maybe the pretty would like him. Maybe the gods simply watched after fools, because in a move that should never have worked, the hare leapt right into the snapping jaws of the big male. Turning back to the Pretty, he beamed around his mouthful of struggling rabbit.
Well what do you know, he actually managed to catch something. Palia looked on, completely unimpressed. Judging by the way the rabbit was struggling, however, he wasn't quite smart enough to kill it. She hoped it would manage to wriggle out of his jaws before he remembered.
He whined faintly as he brought the rabbit to her, a hopeful look in his big green eyes. Spitting the rabbit out at her feet, he stepped on it to keep it from getting away. "Khith did good for Pretty?"
Gods, he really was too stupid to kill it on his own. Palia offered him a false smile. "Yes, Khith did good. Now Khith, just keep that rabbit still for one... more... second..." She crouched down, edging closer to the struggling rabbit. When she was close enough she lashed out at the rabbit like a cobra, grabbing its head in her jaws and ripping the whole thing out from under Khith's paw. The force of her attack dislocated the rabbit's spine in an instant but did not decapitate it, which was fortunate, because if Palia had decapitated it she wouldn't be able to do what she did next. As soon as she had the rabbit in her jaws, she whirled around and sprinted away from Khith, kicking dust into his eyes as she fled.
Khith yelped and whined as he shook his head, pawing at his eyes as he cried. He looked after her retrating figure with confused, teary eyes. He had done as the pretty asked...why did she want to hurt him? Whimpering in confusion, the big male, tucked his tail and slunk towards his den.
When Palia realized she wasn't being followed, she slowed down to conserve her energy. She looked over her shoulder and searched for any sign of Khith. She spotted him, but only barely, a mere shape on the horizon, sulking away to some place else. Palia grinned around the rabbit's head. That was horribly annoying, but at least she got a small meal out of it. Patience does pay off after all.
