I'd just like to point out that Christianity isn't the only one that "frowns" upon magic.

nope, unfortunately there just the easy ones to remember...
catholics... vaticen mostly i would say hate magic more then the christian comunity... but... thats just from what i hear...

Catholics are the original Christians, just so you know.

I'm just saying that they're all Christians; Catholics and Protestants (and a few others thrown in there). It's just that it basically all started with Catholicism. Either way, magic is typically seen as no good regardless of the sect.

I think that might depend on where you live and what sect you're dealing with.

Again, I think it depends on the individual or sect you encounter as to how open they are to magic.

perhaps i should have worded this differantly... the majority of catholics that i have talked to have been significantly less open to magic then the majority of christians that i have talked to... i have talked to more christians then catholics...

Protestants are generally more laid back about a lot of things that Catholics don't like. Contraception for instance.

Catholics hating magic is kind of interesting considering how many rituals Catholicism has and how many saints have been canonized for their miracles.

Yes, but as far as Catholicism is concerned, miracles aren't magic.

And just because they have a s**t-tone of rituals doesn't mean any of those rituals are in any way "magical".

Yet if someone that knew nothing of magic or Catholicism saw both types of rituals and both types of manifestations then they might be indistinguishable.

I think the real interesting thing here is the our dear friend solomon is mentioned in the bible a few times. and that the Vatican library is supposed to house some old spellbooks and the such that only the pope and his inner circle are allowed to see.

i've never understood the aversion to magic......especially christians/catholics. i mean doesnt jesus perform magic? they call them miracles, gifts from god, but wouldnt that make magic miracles too? arent they the same thing?

@obscurus. i dont see the difference at all between the two.......

im just confused now........oh and hi arcane!! whatsup? looks like you're getting pretty into this little debate here

This is a guess, but perhaps they dont like magic BECAUSE jesus was able to do it. If anyone today were to use it, it would be like making jesus seem less miraculous, and put him down in a way. They all love their jesus, and don't like it when people put him down.

i never thought about that.........that is a pretty logical reason. silly to me, but it still makes sense.....
