So I've been getting harassed lately about being TOO anti-twilight. Is there such a thing? I've just been voicing my feelings on it when the subject comes up, and even though I vehemently can't stand the series, the movies, the plot, the characters, any of it, I feel that it's my right as a human being to dislike whatever I want. I'm not actually HURTING anyone by hating it, just voicing my opinions of why I hate it.

So, is there such a thing as too much hate?

It also depends on HOW you voice it, I know. I try to stay calm and intelligent about it, but sometimes I do go overboard. It's rare that that happens, and really only when someone tries to tell me I'm flat out "wrong" because of my FACTS about why this series is terrible. When someone isn't even willing to hear my side is usually when I start getting angry.

But anyway, does this ever happen to you guys? Are we as bad as the foaming fan girls for getting angry at the series?

Well, if you do a intelligent kind of retort, people won't take a second glance at it.

I, myself, have never been attacked. Perhaps because I have a soft-spot for Twilight? (Bring in ten more mindbleach jugs.) I'm a hippie now, and so is most of my family. Were Cannabis Supporters and one of those people who believe that hate is...well, yeah.

Antards. It also happens by not just going overboard, but continually forcing your opinions on others.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 03, 2010 12:41 pm

Yeah, and I'm not trying to force my opinions on others. Just voicing my views on the subject when it's brought up.

I am a vehement hater of the whole thing, and I'm not afraid to say so. But I back it up with reasons and sound logic. I don't just randomly walk up to people and tell them that twilight sucks, that's uncalled for. But in the conversation that's already on the topic, I'll give my insight.

There is such a thing as too far with everything. Personally, I find those who go out of their way to make a fan's life miserable or shove their opinions down their throats like some passionate Religion is a prime example. They're not hurting anyone by liking it. Sure, it's annoying. But they have a right to like it and carry around the products just like we have a right to wear anti shirts. And if they do any harm, it's only to themselves by not realizing the values in the books are horrible.
Or when you think badly of someone for simply liking it. That's just childish.

Voicing your opinions is fine when the subject appears, of course. Some people just need to learn not everyone sees it like the fricken Bible.

I'm glad I'm not in physical contact with anyone who actually likes the series to point of obsession. The few times I've been asked, I think my tone of voice was too harsh. Hard to control it.

Exactly. It's hard to say all sweet like: "yeah, well, I just don't like it" and be all sheepish and squeamish about it. I try to match my anti-tone with their tone. If they come screaming at me like "OMG TEAM EDWARD IS TEH BESTEST EVAR!!!" I'll match it with something like "OMG GO TEAM TYLER'S VAN! OMG!" You know?

I would much rather debate the subject than argue it, you know? I'd rather debate points and get views and opinions out there, than just scream at each other and try to put others down. But it's hard when I'm told I'm just flat out WRONG for not liking it. stare

I've only ever had calm "Do you like it?" targeted at me, so I feel bad for my tone. But it is hard when you're already so damn tired of seeing it. Do they really need to even preview it?

I know. Most fans are just little girls who are ruled more by their hormones than their brain.

Gah! I get a new hairstyle on a game and all I can think about is Victoria. ._. Or whatever her name is with the curly red hair. Stupid series.

Every time I see that subject come out of a sane woman's mouth, I just seeeeeeeeeee red. It actually ruins my mood. I feel constricted because of this, and I'm probably going overboard.

I just consider us militant. There are militant vegans, christians, whatevers, and there are militant anti-twi.

Too Anti-Twilight would be acting like an antard. IMO, voicing your opinion when the subject comes up is not overdoing it.

It's sad to say, but it does me, too. It's just a silly self-insertion book. Yet, when I hear it, my mood plummets and all I can think of is "She likes this garbage? I wonder what type of fan she is. And what kinds of books she likes if she can stomach this one so well..." So stupid the kind of affect this series can have on people. It's like a disease, indeed.

I only mention my dis-like for the series when it comes up. And I usually try to be respectful of others opinions unless they're rude to me.

You don't want to go overboard and shove your opinion down someone's throat.

The fact is, if you are only doing as much as you say, you are getting attacked WAY too much. I do the same thing, and have never been attacked.

Personally I think there are extremist on both sides of the spectrum. It's okay to have an opinion and express it, but if you're deliberately searching out the people who don't agree with you just to make their life as miserable as possible then you're beginning to cross the line from an Anti to an Extremist (I beleive we've coined them as Antards? O_o). Which is one of the reasons why I don't support 'witch hunting' Twilight fans. If they're not bothering you then just leave them the hell alone.

I actually have a friend who likes Twilight, but she's not a die hard fan girl. She actually hates fan girls, and the movies. So we like to sit and trash the movies. And we like to have debates and laugh at each side. Some times we'll switch sides with me defending the series and her attacking it. But most of the time, I only discuss my hatred with other anti-twilighters. I don't want to offend anyone, so I usually just talk to people who have the same view of the book as I do.

People have their Berserk Buttons.

For me, twilight is one of them. Not as much as it USED to be, but still...
