I have two friends who are my nearest and dearest, who I have been extremely close to for a good number of years. Now, my friends say they hate Twilight and Stephenie Meyer and all things related to both. We are all fans of Harry Potter, Avatar: TLA, and other things we find cool and well written and exciting.

The other day my one friend requests that I and my other friend join her in seeing Eclipse. At first I am extremely against it (let's go see Toy Story 3 or The Last Airbender, I say), but my friend is adamant on seeing Eclipse to glimpse Taylor Lautner's hot body (she is obsessed with the boy, but I honestly don't blame her. Though he may play a character in an awful series of movies, he is good looking), make fun of the movie, see the HP&tDH trailer and to see each other. At first I thought these were all good reasons.

Then I thought about it. She could look Taylor Lautner up online and stare at an image all day. We have all already seen the trailer for Deathly Hallows on Youtube. We could see each other by going to see a decent movie together. And, honestly, I'm not willing to pay that money to make fun of a movie I do NOT want to see.

And then I began to wonder: Are my friends closet fans of Twilight?! Impossible, surely. But then I think about it some more and it does make some sense. But are my friends just lying when I'm around, claiming that they hate a series that they actually obsess over when I'm in the other room?

I've decided I'm not going, seeing as how I need my money to see The Last Airbender and Toy Story 3 (and to buy many other things like toothpaste and shoes). But what do I do with my friends? Do I let them continue to be posers, even though it really doesn't make me extremely upset that they like it, or do I have an intervention?

Opinions? Comments? KTHXBIE

I'm not sure... but I think it's a good decision to go see another movie instead.

And I think that if your friends do make fun of Twilight then they're being honest about it. Would there be any reason for them not to be honest with you? I mean, you would still be friends with them even if they were fans, right?

I'll admit, Taylor Lautner is good-looking, but I wouldn't go at the consequence of seeing a movie based on a series that I HATE. Not to mention I'd have to see stupid Robert Pattinson and little miss Kristen SteWART. I've read the damned books (which mind you took me forever to read because they sucked) and I'm probably going to be sucked into the movie theatre by my sisters and my mom. It sucks to be thirteen and living with a bunch of hormone-crazed girls. Meh. I think I'd rather go watch Elmo and Barney screw eachother more than I want to see Eclipse. Which is why I voted "Intervention".

I'd just leave it be. Maybe your friend wants to see him on the big screen, not just the computer. If they are fans, what does it matter anyways? They're your friends.

I agree with Toadette. They could also just be curious about seeing the Eclipse movie (or seeing Lautner's pecs on the big screen); if they want to go, let them. Just because they go see Eclipse doesn't make them Twilight fans or make you guys blood-sworn enemies.

Several of my close friends- include my best friend- LOVE Twilight and Lautner, yet I'm still friends with them. Now, if they ranted 24/7 about how much they loved Twilight and how one day they would have Lautner's or Patterson's babies, then ditching them and running for safety would be understandable. But if they just like Twilight and are not rabid-fangirl-obsessed, that's fine. Only when they start foaming at the mouth should you head for the hills. wink

Don't go, but leave them be.
They are closet fans though. Anyone who says they're going 'for the lulz' are just lying to themselves. Why would you spend money on something you dislike?

Sometimes out of sheer, morbid curiosity.

I say you let them see the movie, and if this continues to torment you, ask nicely for your friends to be honest about their opinions on Twilight. Just trust that they're telling the truth, it's better than jeopardizing your friendship just because of a gay thing like Twilight.
