This version of the office of the Jūbantai-Taicho is almost void of anything that shows human interactions save for the seating arrangements and flat beds. Eriko is very fond of wide open spaces. This stems from her innate need for freedom and clarity of mind at all times. If she is not working on something for the benefit of the Division and by extension, Soul Society, the girl can be found lying on the floor at odd angles sometimes, looking up at the ceiling. Once alone, it is very easy for her to become lost in her own thoughts and it would require visitors to walk up to her and disrupt her reflections in some manner.

⋆⋆⋆∥ELISIA xRIYU ☇【squadxfourxCAPTAIN】 | Entrance from 12th Division Training Grounds |
Elisia entered the room, carrying Eriko over one shoulder. Her breathing was slightly irregular, due to the fact that she wasn’t used to carrying people for such a long distance. She had been delayed several times, firstly by Tsukiko’s message, which she was sure that everyone in Seireitei had gotten and secondly, there had been several concerned 10th Division members that had taken it upon themselves to inquire about their unconscious Captain. Usually she would have been a little more tactful with them, but her nerves were slightly shot and she was anxious to get to Sōkyoku Hill as quickly as possible. Thus, she had managed a muttered answer, saying something about how she was dealing with it, before hurrying off. Shifting her weight again, she shuffled towards where one of the flat beds were, sighing slightly as she laid Eriko down. She took a needle from her pouch, injecting Eriko with a liquid that would basically get into Eriko’s circulation and basically, revive Eriko. It might take a while to work though, and Elisia needed to be gone now. She scribbled a quick note, which read:
Eriko, I know you’re most likely going to be confused and groggy when you get up but basically, Tsukiko accidentally knocked you unconscious. I’d love to stay and see how you are going, but unfortunately, a message was sent out for all of us to go somewhere as soon as possible. You’d might want to get yourself to Sōkyoku Hill whenever you wake up. Most likely, you’ll have a massive headache, so these pills should relieve you of that pain for the meantime, m’kay?
Elisia
Placing the painkiller pills next to the note, she departed, closing the door behind her.

Jūbantai-Taichō Eriko came to a few hours later with a massive headache. Immediately, her hand went her head as she tried to sit up on the fairly comfortable surface of one of her guest flat beds. Bending forward did not help any but something told her it would be better than lying back down to wake up later. Her body rocked for a few seconds as her mind caught up with the rest of her. It had not been almost three years ago since Tsukiko's backhand but fifteen minutes if so much. A little more steady movement and she had to wonder if the time difference felt this surreal always.
Finally, her grey eyes picked up on the bottle and note at her side. Carefully, she stretched and picked them up. She read through it quickly enough, popping three of the pills simultaneously at the last line. The second reading was much more deliberate as her eyes took in Elisia's words and their meaning. The somewhere was probably from where Aurelius and Dolor had originated. She had not taken much notice of the name if it had been spoken in her presence unfortunately. They probably met at Sōkyoku Hill. How many hours has it been since Elisia had left this note? Forcing her body and mind to be in sync at a quicker pace, Eriko got to her feet and grabbed her sheathed Zanpakuto, the pills and her haori before striding over to the door. She was not sure of how much help she could be at this point in the battle but it was better than being no help at all. Her body's final changes into a slimmer and firmer shape did not faze her as important since it had taken place during the first couple days of her fight against Cho. Now, all she could think about was getting outside to help protect Soul Society. It was her duty.

Jūbantai-Taichō My Fears... l Entrance from the Funeral Thread l
Eriko walked in slowly and closed the door behind her. The main room was unlit as were the other blocked off areas. She had ensured that it was so before she left the Division Grounds. Now that she was back, there was no desire to switch them on again so soon. The Taicho unhooked the sash for her Zanpakuto, held it tightly in her right hand and placed it gently on the nearest table while on her way to the grouping of flat beds near the closed doors. Quietly, she sat down cross-legged on one in the right hand corner.
"What are you thinking about?" A white-haired, pale faced girl rounded the corner and leaned against the wall, staring at her master blankly.
Eriko's flickered up towards Cho's face. "It's nothing. I'm just replaying today's events in my head. I had wanted to take down that Arrancar for myself. There's always that childish need to do things by myself, no help needed. However, seeing the battle between him and Yuki-Sotaicho, I know now that that was all it was - childish. I've been a Captain for what, a day? And even if I do get stronger, it would not matter because help will still be required."
"What I don't get is why that is so important to you. I mean, back home, your brothers helped you. In the Academy, teamwork was practiced. Why do you need to do it solo?"
Her knees pulled up to her chest, a habit that she was developing. "It's not needed. It is simply a matter of feeling like I am efficient or not. I didn't pass at the top of my class as you recall and my brothers loved to rearrange what I had already accomplished. Ugh, can we please talk about something else please?"
The spirit joined her on the mattress with her legs stretched out together. "Sure. Uh, what are you planning to do about Masashi-Taicho." At the instant groan, she chuckled. "Well, you did invite him over and a discussion will take place whether you want it to or not. It shouldn't be a problem if you are clear about your feelings -"
"Okay, let's try something else." Grudgingly, the girl stood up and grabbed one of the mattresses on the left hand side. "Like I was saying before, I've been a Captain for only one day. I need to keep training, both with and without you. It's that simple but it won't be that easy." While she was speaking, Eriko had been wrapping the mattress around one of the support beams as well as instructing Cho to attach the extensive padding to it with extra hemp rope from her bags. Eventually, the bed clothed the pole by being tied at three points in order to secure.
"So, what is this for?"
"This," Eriko responded, grinning, "is what I used when I was younger and couldn't be with my trainer. Of course, it's rudimentary in its design but it worked and I should have stuck with it like a good little practitioner. Unfortunately, I didn't." Cho sighed as her master fished out some more hemp rope and began wrapping it around her own hands. By the time that Eriko's fists were connecting alternately to the suspended flat bed, the sprite was watching her from a seat on the office table, which meant that the main door was on her left. Why did she have to get the girl with too many issues?

Lee had walked rather slowly as he did eyes closed most of the time as there was no need for them to be open, he had walked Seireitei on occasion, and had no need to physically see the paths to move through them. He had been right and the walk had served to clear his head perfectly and he had already accepted every possible outcome to the talk. Lee had told Eriko not too long ago to do what made her happy and he meant it even if that was not actually being with him. He had encountered a few patrolling Shinigami who were surprised to see a Captain out walking. However after a quick wave of dismissal they quickly left him to his thoughts. Despite what had happened it was a peaceful walk for him as he was more than capable of ignoring whatever noise came up here and there. Opening his eyes as he stood outside the door to Eriko's quarters Lee listened to the noise coming from inside, hesitating slightly as he didn't want to interrupt whatever she might be doing. However after a few moments of silently standing there quite still he raised his right hand and knocked on the door softly but loudly enough for her to hear. Letting his hand drop back down to his side Lee let out a small inaudible sigh and closed his eyes again waiting. Patience was something he had in very large amounts.

Jūbantai-Taichō My Fears... Eriko had been in the middle of a roundhouse kick when the knock happened. Unfortunately, that means that she got distracted, became off-balance, hit the wrong area and fell back to the floor finally with a thud. "Damn it." Instead rising immediately, she stayed there on the floor, not waiting necessarily for the unknown visitor to holler. No, she was waiting for him to go away because his identity was anything but unknown.
"You called him here though," a tiny voice chirped as a green butterfly floated over her face. "This, this lying down-playing dead thing is kind of rude. Answer the door or I will." Of course, the Zanpakuto spirit would not do that. This was further proven when the butterfly rested on the sheathed sword for a few seconds before fading out of sight.
She watched this soundlessly from her current position on the floor. Honestly, making him wait would not solve anything and it would put off the inevitable. "Fine, I'll answer the door." Eriko sat up and pulled off her ankle wraps, leaving the ones on her hands in place. She had managed to comb her hair into a ponytail as well as to don a change of clothes since starting her training session, namely a loose black top and pants. Once they were at the foot of the padded pole, she pushed herself up and approached the door hurriedly only to halt directly in front of it. It shouldn't be a problem if you are clear about your feelings. She was but what if they did not match? What happens, then? With a quick body shake, Eriko undid the latches and opened the door, moving back with it to clear the way for Masashi-Taicho. "Hi, I didn't think that you would have come so...soon. Please, come in. Make yourself home or something, Masashi-Taicho."
This invitation made her glance around at her quarters. It was barren, to put it nicely. There was the low office table with one chair on each side. Her wide but short balcony was beyond that. Both were in line with the presently ajar main door. Behind her, there was a wall with the doorless entrance to the second part of her place, where the flat beds were and the miniature kitchen connected via an open doorway. There was a third section but it was behind closed, sliding doors literally. Her eyes returned to Lee while she bit at her bottom lip nervously. Slowly, she disconnected her hand from the door and walked further into the main room. "Where do you want to start?" xxx ...I would rather be without you.

Lee noticed the noise seemed to stop and yet the door hadn't been answered just yet not that it really bothered him. Keeping his eyes closed Lee simply retreated into his head hands resting down at his sides with his eyes still closed. There wasn't really much going through his mind at the moment besides the desire for sleep. Then before he could delve to far into the thoughts of sleep the door opened to reveal Eriko. Opening his eyes at the sound of her voice drifting towards him Lee noticed she didn't seem to be expecting so soon further confirmed by her saying it. "My conversation with my Fukutaicho didn't last very long." Walking inside at her invitation Lee took a quick look around before walking over to the balcony and looking into the distance. It was odd really that at her question he didn't exactly know where to start and gripped his hands together behind himself like a soldier might do. "I am unsure of that myself Eriko-taicho. Perhaps we should just go ahead and get our feelings out in the open before anything else is discussed. Unless you have other ideas. If we get that out of the way other things will follow."
Not turning around to gaze at her he continued looking out from the Balcony for the moment sorting through what he had to tell her. "I do not know the depth of them but I do know I have feelings for you Eriko-taicho. I do not love you yet but that is to be expected given how long we have known each other. Rarely is love an immediate thing. I do know that my feelings run deeper than friendship however. I have already told you once to do what makes you happy so I will not repeat it. I am simply going to tell you that if you do not feel the same it is not a problem." Cutting it off there Lee didn't go into the whole thing about him getting over her if she didn't feel the same way since his feelings didn't run super deep yet. It might just make her feel less needed something he didn't want to do. It wasn't that he couldn't live without her or anything like that but he did care for her.

Jūbantai-Taichō My Fears... Eriko nodded at his explanation, closing the door quickly after he was inside via the couple of latches on it. However, she did not follow him to the balcony just as yet, opting to give him the physical space to say what he had to say. Get our feelings out in the open. Great. Her head shook silently at his inquiry if she had other ideas even though he probably did not see it. Her posture straightened as his words continued to flow into the atmosphere. By the time that he had spoken his last word, the less experienced Taicho was on the balcony as well with most of the landing between them.
This was her cue now to say something just as heartfelt and probably along the lines of "I feel the same way." Unfortunately, her mind was stuck in time; her body frozen to that spot with her eyes looking outside as well. To her, it seemed like an eternity before her lips parted to speak. "You're different. You don't treat me the way that I am used to." She chuckled here, a coping mechanism with relation to her father. "Anyway, I've been trying to distinguish between mere admiration and liking you as a person. It was less than pleasant but necessary." Here, she turned to face him, her hands crossed over her chest and her hip leaning against the railing. "Masashi-Taicho, I share your sentiments but I need for us to take this slow. I'm talking about forming a better friendship bond, developing trust and what have you."
Slowly but surely, she was panicking again as was shown by her hands moving along with her words to support them. Eriko stopped looking at him and shuffled off to the kitchen, functioning on raw nerves at the moment. She did not know how to do - this. What if she scared him off? Bah, it was not likely but still something to consider. Her hands fetched two cups of water. She had not even asked if he wanted a drink but she needed one and empathy was a pain sometimes. At a hurried pace, she reemerged with the cups and handed one over to him. "I'm not sure if you're a fan of water but it's all I have anyway so," her eyes glancing up at him ever so often, "but it is all that I have to offer...right now." Without waiting for his response, Eriko drained her own cup within a minute and sighed after that. It was all that she had to offer him. xxx ...I would rather be without you.

Lee closed his eyes as he waited noticing Eriko didn't join him on the balcony until after he finished his little speech. Putting his hands out in front of him he rested them on the railing, leaning on them slightly as he waited for the words to come his way. What came out first was something Lee had not quite been expecting so therefore he opened his eyes and stared straight ahead. He didn't treat her the way she was used to? Well that was certainly an odd thing in itself since Lee didn't think how he treated her was all that differently. Still he didn't really know exactly how other people treated her either so therefore it could be entirely different for all he knew. Letting his golden orbs fall towards the floor he continued listening. Hearing the ending for the moment it was one of the situations Lee had been expecting and thought of so therefore he said nothing immediately.
Instead Lee just stared at the floor letting her leave the room to go fetch whatever it was she was getting. Leaving him to his thoughts was something that was to be expected even if it wasn't her intention and Lee though up a few more responses. He could tell her it would be fine and get to know her better, tell her that wasn't something he wanted and leave, or he could even get to know her as a friend while not specifically seeking her out romantically. Each one at the moment seemed plausible and in their own ways inviting. Eriko's reappearance with a cup of water was noted though he didn't look her way. Hearing the words offered with the cup Lee took it without really looking and rested his elbows on the railing instead holding the cup with both hands. Did she think he wouldn't like water given what is zanpakuto focused on? Then again Lee couldn't remember even releasing in front of her which meant she may not even know about his zanpakuto.
"Water is fine." The words came out as a whisper as Lee decided to stare into the cup at his reflection looking up at him. The choices that laid before him were still on his mind as where each of them might lead were entirely unclear so instead he went with the two that would at least let him keep Eriko as a friend. "I understand Akiyama-taicho." Not bothering to elaborate on what exactly he meant Lee took a sip from the water. He wasn't exactly sure where he intended to go with it himself therefore he didn't make a commitment one way or another. For now they would work on developing a friendship and see where that took them apparently. While it may not have been specifically stated Lee was willing to answer questions she might have. After all you couldn't very well build a friendship with someone without asking questions. Continuing to stare down into the cup with his golden orbs Lee remained silent for a moment.

Jūbantai-Taichō My Fears... Eriko did not ask him to elaborate on what it was that he understood. At the moment, she would take it as the obvious understanding that they could not rush into a relationship, no matter how they felt. "Good," she responded finally, leaving him another time to replace her cup. He was really quiet. Ordinarily, it would not have bothered her if someone was quiet around her but she knew with his silence must come thoughts. Upon her return, Eriko swung a loose punch at her pole and resumed the practice from before Lee's arrival. The next step was obvious: a semi-natural conversation for two.
However, she could not decide what to ask him or to say now. Straight punch, left, right, elbows...damn it. She went for another strike with her fist and grunted as it landed in a less than favourable manner. They could talk about family but she was not talkative about her own. Why should she expect anything else from others? What about the Exaequare dimension? It was professional but still a topic for discussion. "So," she started, slowing down her speed, "what happened with the Exaequare? I heard a bit of what Elisia-Taicho said but not enough for clear understanding. However," her hands stopped completely and she turned to face him, "if you don't want to talk about that, I have some extra beds and we could just discuss something else." During the last few words, she had managed to pull two flat beds from the side into the main room. "Or rest."
This amount of nervousness could not be healthy for a girl. Promptly, Eriko untied her hands, flexing them as she did so, and sat down on the righthand mattress. She had not used that rope for years but it was strong enough for the next few months. After that, she could get another batch or a substitute. Hakuda had been important to her at some point in her life and maybe if she could regain that, life would not make her jump so much whenever it threw a change in her direction. Her eyes had left Lee now, leaving him to his thoughts and allowing a chance for his response. When her hands were free again, she sat cross-legged on her mat with the rope in her lap and her head bowed down, staring at it blankly. xxx ...I would rather be without you.

Lee nodded at Eriko saying good still remaining silent despite it perhaps not being such a good thing that he was silent. However such thoughts didn't cross his mind as he figured it would give her time to herself as well and possibly think of things she could ask. She left then returned shortly to resume the practice she had been in the middle of before he had arrived. Taking another drink Lee finally turned around leaning against the railing easily and watching her. It was only after a grunt came from Eriko from a less favorably landed punch that she spoke up. The topic introduced was not exactly one that would usually come up in this type of situation but not totally unexpected. She had been absent from the little trip after all and how else was she to know exactly how things went if she didn't ask? Letting her finished what she had to say he watched her pull out the two beds then finish the thought with two words. Ah rest sounded so inviting and threatened to totally overwhelm Lee's desire to actually talk so much that he dared not go over to the bed just yet. Not that he thought his willpower would waver in the face of such a thing it was just to be on the safe side. Standing for the moment kept him awake.
"No the topic is fine. I understand your desire to learn what exactly went on while we were there." Pausing for a moment to let her get settled in just fine Lee resumed a few moments later closing his eyes as he did so. "We arrived and Yuki-sotaicho immediately tried to negotiate with Caelum. It failed of course obviously and the fight ensued. After a short amount of time Tsukiko-taicho trapped herself and Caelum in a field of gravity then brought on a noise to drown out the words. What exactly was said I don't know but the result was simply Hei's revival and Dolor's freedom. Afterwards Yuki-sotaicho ordered everyone save myself to attack Dolor while I assisted her in dealing With Caelum. After another short time of the two fights going on Hei arrived with Tsukiko-taicho and Asami-taicho. After a short skirmish with Dolor Yuki-sotaicho ordered Hei to deal with Caelum while she assisted the others with Dolor. After a few moments Hei decided he didn't want my help so I went to assist the others with Dolor as well. Tsukiko then came up with a plan and after I did my part the technique I used drained my remaining reiryoku leaving me unconscious. As such what happened afterwards is unknown though an agreement was came to."
Falling silent afterwards Lee took another small drink from the cup then set it down on the railing taking a step away from it. Walking slowly over to the unoccupied mattress Lee took a seat positioning himself so he was laying down with his legs crossed and hands together on his chest. His eyes remained open as he let himself relax taking in the comfort the mattress offered while not falling prey to the sleep that threatened to come. Lee wouldn't sleep here mainly because it would send the entirely wrong message to any who found out. That and the fact that in his mind it would be an intrusion on her privacy. Staring at the ceiling Lee remained silent again contemplating what to talk about next. After a moment or two he brought his golden orbs away from the ceiling to glance sideways at Eriko before they returned to the ceiling. "Anything else you would like to ask?" While not specifically stated it was the fact that they were getting to know each other that he stayed. Without that reason there wouldn't really be anything keeping him here after all.

Jūbantai-Taichō My Fears... Eriko remained in the same position as Lee spoke; his words passing over her and their meanings were taken in stride. Caelum was the Exaequare Leader. Hei had been ressurrected so she could not deny what she had seen at the funeral site anymore. Obviously, it had been a deal struck between Tsukiko-Taicho and Caelum. They had worked as a team for the most part. No wonder he had seemed so out of it when they returned. She looked up at him now; her hands laying in her lap atop the rope. Her eyes followed him from the railing to the mattress. His tired appearance was apparent even if he did not want it to be. Eriko sighed at the sideway glance as well as the question that followed it.
However, she did not respond immediately. Instead, the inquiry was left to hang there between them for a few minutes. Of course, there were other things that she would like to ask. They were trying to build a friendship here but he was forcing himself to stay awake and she could not have that. "Yeah, there is." As much as she wanted to make him take a break, curiosity overpowered that concern. "What was family life like for you and what is it now? I know that it is more on the personal side but with my dead dad and brothers who don't speak to me because I joined the Gotei 13, it's usually on my mind how it is for other people." Eriko shrugged at this. She was tired of being less than subtle in how anxious this whole situation was making her and if it helped, she could keep her nerves under control until it was over. xxx ...I would rather be without you.

Lee kept his eyes trained on the ceiling laying back and relaxing without doing much thinking since he was a little too tired to really think in all honesty. He didn't receive an answer immediately which was fine and yet at the same time wasn't fine considering how powerfully sleep was trying to win. When she did speak up the question caught him a little off guard causing him to remain silent for around a full minute. It wasn't that he didn't want to answer her yet at the same time he didn't know how to answer her. After a minute he let out a small sigh and took a deep breath letting it out slowly before parting his lips to speak. "My mother was a great woman but we were not of any particular worth. I grew up in one of the middle districts of the rukongai. I don't know who my father was to be honest. He left my mother before my mother gave birth and I heard rumors that he died whether they are true or not I honestly don't care. Life wasn't especially hard for me given the fact that I hung out with a group of kids that picked on some of the others. I didn't actually dabble in the bullying as well but I might as well have."
Pausing for a few moments Lee considered stopping there but figured he might as well just answer her question completely. "One day the kids picked on a mute boy that had just arrived. After they were finished I offered my hand in friendship and he accepted though I never really knew his name. I brought him home to my mother who was sick and she adopted him as my brother giving him the name Yuu. After a few years it became apparent that I had spiritual powers. Being accepted into the academy I was overjoyed. However it was around that time that my mother finally succumbed to her illness. Yuu was devastated and after awhile he just disappeared. I dunno what happened to him. That was hundreds of years ago. I find my memories of him fading slightly everyday... Family life for me was amazing. Despite not having much we lived well. I hope that answers your question Eriko-taicho." Letting out a small sigh Lee fell silent again relishing in the silence and keeping his eyes trained on the ceiling. "I am sorry you were not able to properly enjoy your family life."

Jūbantai-Taichō My Fears... Eriko kept her eyes on him as he spoke. It was easier that way when he spoke about things that she would never understand like how great his mother had been, hanging out with friends as well as his mother's death after his birth and not during it. Of course, these were a few of things that stood out for her because of personal reasons but this was his story. She did not interrupt him even when he paused before the ending.
"It does, Masashi-Taicho and don't be sorry. I, it was a long time ago and I found a way to escape. As long as I don't bother them, I never have to hear from my brothers or their families. My mom died at my birth so there's nothing to be missed there." Here, she stopped and looked away from her visitor. It was not a habit to talk about that so whenever mention was made, her voice tended to crack a little as though she was upset. Shaking her head to rid it of the past, Eriko brought herself to her feet and approached his neglected cup, capturing it within her hands and securing it there. "Anyway, I guess it's time for you to leave. If the encounter with Caelum really affected you as adversely as you mentioned, then it would be selfish of me to detain you from rest any longer." Her words carried her over to his mattress just to place the cup by him before returning to her own bed. "You are welcomed to stay here if the walk would be too tiring for you. It's simply a suggestion." A friendly smile crept onto her face while she waited for his response. If he did leave or not, it would be all about time after this. The main personal things were out of the way and any more learning about each other should occur through normal, natural meetings and conversations. xxx ...I would rather be without you.

|190| Masashi, Lee, Gobantai Taicho"Telling me to go. But hands beg me to stay. Your lips say that you love. Your eyes say that you hate. There's truth in your lies. Doubt in your faith. What you build you lay to waste. There's truth in your lies. Doubt in your faith. All I've got's what you didn't take. So I, I won't be the one. Be the one to leave this. In pieces. And you, you will be alone. Alone with all your secrets. And regrets, don't lie. You promised me the sky. Then tossed me like a stone. You wrap me in your arms. And chill me to the bone. There's truth in your lies. Doubt in your faith. All I've got's what you didn't take." (Not going to bother making another post since it would just be basically him going to sleep.....)
Lee nodded to Eriko though he didn't really understand how you couldn't be close to your family. That was usually never the problem yet Lee had to remind himself that there were families out there who weren't very close. Even if his own had been at least up until his mother had passed. He had given up a long time ago on finding out anything concerning Yuu considering he just vanished. Lee didn't miss Eriko looking away but he said nothing on it and instead sat up on the side of the bed away from Eriko. After a moment or two more of silence he stood up and turned around with his eyes closed in slight thought. "It's fine. I was about to leave anyway. No it would not be proper for me to sleep here and would send the wrong message to everyone. Goodnight Eriko-taicho. Sleep well we will see each other soon I imagine." With that Lee went to the door and after opening it left without hesitation. Sleep may not come to him immediately and as such he now had things to think of until it did.
