As in, you say something bad and you touch wood so you don't jinx yourself/it doesn't happen. I use more in situations where I mentions something good that is happening and knock on wood so the opposite doesnt come true. 'Oh my god it's finally sunny! *knock on wood*!'

Blanche grumbled "i surely am glad i am not losing my mind like you two...touch wood!"
