I just got back from my yearly trip to Sweden and got to brush up my Swedish a little. Traveling has always been close to my heart anyway and I was wondering if you guys have ever been to a country where the language you're learning is spoken? Or have you traveled to a country and then fallen in love with the language and started learning it? Or just visited another country for fun?

I've been to the UK, Germany and Slovakia. I did speak Slovak in Slovakia and it wasn't so bad although sometimes I accidentally used Polish words... But when I was in Germany I spoke in English. I'm not confident about my German so yeah. sweatdrop I've also been to Italy and I absolutely want to learn Italian one day. <3

I've been to Canada once but I was really young so I can't really remember it... And the only time besides that that I was out of state was to go to a family reunion a couple states over... I'd really like to travel, no, I'm desperate to travel, but my parents don't want to or something. D: I really envy you guys that travel a lot.

Yeah, I've only travelled to America. Well, I did travel to Turkey when I was 3. But I was only 3 years old so I couldn't have a linguistic experience, haha. I was meant to go to Greece this year, so I was going to learn Greek and talk with locals but we're not going any more.

I'd love to travel though. I'm a traveller at heart!

I love travelling, and I'd travel much more if I had enough money.
If it were for my family, though, we would never move out of this little island. I do most of my trips by myself or with some friends.

Considering only foreign countries, I've been to the UK, France and Germany, but I always had to speak (some) English. The few times I tried to say some words of French in France I got nasty looks so I decided to stop xd I've never studied French so my pronunciation/accent must have been unbearable.

Plus, I went to Japan for a couple of years. I had a great time and was able to speak the language to some extent. It's a pity I don't have many occasions to use it now and I don't remember as much as I did back then. I definitely want to spend some time there again when I have the chance.

It would be wonderful if I could end my life having been in every continent at least once. ...That sounds a bit childish, maybe... My brother wants to touch the waters of every ocean in the world. It must run in the genes. xd

I actually got to travel a lot.
I spent a week in England when I was 10 or 9. I still didn't speak any English though. I was also in Kenya, Poland, Canada and Ireland. I didn't learn Swahili, and the only thing I learned in Polish was "hello", "good morning" and "I don't speak Polish". People tried talking to me often and many didn't speak English at all.

I should see the US at least once in my lifetime, it has taken over my brain. But Germany must come next.

I've traveled a lot I think...maybe.
Places I've been numbered by times I've been there:
Sacramento and SF: don't know how many times D:
Hong Kong x4 or x5 (but it was all in a month and i was leaving and reentering a lot.)
China (guangzhou to be specific) x3 for family trips
Hawaii x3 - big island and oahu (they had really good shabu shabu there. I think it was the first time I tried it XD)
Los Angeles x3 mainly for disneyland
Nevada x1: skiing or maybe it was lake tahoe...?
Arizona x1: i liked the cactuses
France x1: School trip it was so awesome. I went to Paris and then the Pyreenes then Cote d'azur. LOVED AIX-EN PROVENCE!!!
Spain x1: stayed 1 day here on the french trip. Loved tapas.
Boston/Massachusetts x1 : family
Virginia, DC, Maryland x1 : school trip
Thailand x1 OMG THE BEACHES!!!!
Taiwan x1 HOT SPRINGS OMG
Japan (plane stop)
Germany (plane stop)
Korea (plane stop)

Favorite place: Taiwan or South of France or China (not HK, it's way more crowded)

It's suprising that I haven't been to Mexico considering I have like 5 shirts from there XD (from parents' buisness trips...or leisure trips moreso)

I've got a savings account dedicated to travel, but it's empty at the moment. -.-
I went to Australia for my birthday in February this year. It was amazing, we went to the Gold Coast, which is in Queensland. Stayed in Surfers Paradise and went to all the theme parks like Dream World, White Water World and Warner Bros Movie World. The weather is great, waves are great, atmosphere is great. I found Queenslanders to be much happier and more enthusiastic about everything than New Zealanders and I can only put that down to the weather, but I can't be sure, lol. Plus it only took just over three hours to get there and New Zealanders can get in and out of Australia no problem. smile
I really want to travel further, like to a French-speaking country for example, but I just don't have the money yet. sad

Unfortunately, like Ukryu I've only been to Canada. I plan to travel a lot when I get older though, I'm so jealous of you guys.

My list of travels include the United States of America (born and raised), Canada, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Korea (colloquially South Korea, where I live now), the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (colloquially North Korea), Japan, the People's Republic of China, The Republic of China (Taiwan), and Thailand.

I speak English as my native language, so that has never been a problem in the United States or Canada. The purpose of my travel to Spain was language study. I went to Italy because my aunt thought it would continue to encourage me to study the language
(my interest went to East Asian languages), and I study both Korean and Japanese now. I tend to memorize Mandarin Chinese phrases when I go to China or Taiwan, but I don't retain them.

Ohh, Gold Coast! I really wanted to go there when I went on a language course to Australia but instead, I ended up in Cairns. It wasn't all that bad either but I still think I would've preferred Gold Coast so it's still on my list of places to visit. XD Next up, is the US though where I'm hoping to go next month.

Also, I forgot to make my own list so here we go.. I've just mostly traveled in Europe.
Spain - When I was a kid, we visited Spain at least once every year and because of that, my mom started learning Spanish and with her, I did too. But to be honest, I don't remember all that much Spanish anymore. I was young. XD
Sweden - As mentioned, I visit there every year now instead of going to Spain like I did as a kid. It's mostly just a shopping trip to Stockholm but I do get to practice some Swedish there too, haha.
Australia - Already mentioned this, I went on a language course to Australia to learn some English within an English-speaking country.
Germany - I've been here on holiday but later on I did start learning the language also. Planning to go back one day as some of my friends live here.
Estonia - I sometimes go on a shopping trip to Estonia the same way as to Sweden but even though Estonia is much closer (about 2-3 hours on a boat) it's also much smaller so I often pick Sweden over it. But sometimes a change is nice and I go to Estonia. (:
Greece - Been here on holiday, know nothing of the language so I just spoke English.

Also, Nosuri, I understand your dream because I also want to visit every continent at least once. ;D

I've been to various states in the U.S. and I've been to Mexico several times. I am almost semi- bilingual in Spanish, so I can get around relatively easily in Mexico, except when people assume I'm Mexican and start yelling at me in Spanish. sweatdrop
