Why do you write poetry?
---
Do you want to inspire others?
Do you want to be inspired?
Are you inspired?
Are you trying to find answers?

I write because I am inspired inspiring others would be nice but I primarily write for my girlfriend Sage because telling her I love her isn't enough so I tell her through written words as well

I write poetry because it was my first step to finding my humanity again. For the longest time I hid my emotions and acted out my life, you know fake laughing, pretending other emotions, doing everything off of what i'd observed because I didn't know how to express myself because people had treated my like s**t for the longest time so I had stop feeling anything for the longest time. My freshmen year of hs when I was introduced for the first time to actually writing poetry, I found my escape, I found a way to communicate how I felt. Its always been the best way and still is the best way for me to show what I'm thinking, how I feel. To inspire others? From my experience with poetry as I've shown, I feel that if someones life, the fact that they exist, isnt enough inspiration then nothing will inspire that person, but thats just me.

I write poetry to see what I really am like inside, because I can't seem to show it outwardly.

i write poetry because i hide the real me, i feel as if i am only connected to the real me when i write poetry....i always act, pretend im ok and smile to make sure everyone around is happy, even if i feel like im in pain i still joke and smile. when i write poetry i can let the real me out, even if only briefly. i still dont know who i am and writing poetry helps me understand myself slightly better. i try to be inspiring and be inspired but unless i connect with the poetry writen neither can happen.

For me it's all about playing with words.
When it comes to inspiration and emotion, I tend to get that all out in prose fiction which is the genre I prefer. Poetry is a challenge for me, something that I do just to see if I can. I like stringing words together and attempting to make them into something that sounds beautiful. I generally fail, but it's fun to try.
Sometimes, though, I do use poetry to make a point about something--religion, atheism, familial relationships, whatever. But it very rarely becomes something personal. I think I've only ever written one poem in which I whined about my own personal issues. And it sucked. So I try to avoid that.

I write because it's new to me, and I find it fun to do and to learn.

i write because i get an idea and i want to share it; also, i find entertainment in it; but most of all, there is beauty hidden from everyone behind every poem, and i want to experience this beauty and maybe help others do the same.

I don't write so much anymore - I dance a lot more now to deal with emotional problems. But I love to write so I'm getting back into it.
When I write, I can twist the words around, make them beautiful. I can come at things from any angle in my mind, and I can arrange my emotions into lines of text. So, writing helps me process and understand what I'm feeling, whether good or bad. Like I'm distilling my thoughts and purifying them. Simplifying.
It's also really fun to play with words. smile
