The setting is the foot of Sōkyoku Hill, just near the edge of the forest that the Hill overlooks. Numerous Sakura Trees litter the area, scattering their petals across the maintained meadow that spans for hundreds of yards. A large hole rests at the foot of a medium-sized tombstone erected in honor of the fallen warrior. Hei's body is above ground in the casket, just next to the hole. A gentle breeze blows through the meadow on this day and the smell of flowers fill the air. The conveyance of the body has been done, the ceremony and prayers are completed and the procession was completed naught but minutes ago.

Hei's adoptive parents, Yuki and Tsukiko are already present before the tombstone, standing due to the absence of chairs and having brought the casket there themselves. The rest of the Gotei is just now arriving to pay their last respects and deliver any last words before Hei is put into the ground for eternal rest.

Embracing the Chinese and Japanese concept of white conveying mourning, the attire to be worn is an full-white Shihakusho, where all that was once black (kosode and a white hakama) is now white to match with the rest of the. The waraji remain colored the same.

| Entrance from Fourth Division |

Elisia arrived at the foot of Sōkyoku Hill, wearing a simple full-white Shihakusho, a kosode and a white hakama. While she could have opted to wear her Captain’s Haori, she did not, feeling still a little awkward about the fact that she was now the Fourth Division’s Captain. What was Yuki going to go now? With a sigh, she crossed the distance between her and Hei’s body. Looking down upon it, all her time in Gotei 13 flashed through her eyes and she bowed her head in respect. While he had not been the best friend or her favourite person, he had been there, so alive, always for Yuki and Tsukiko. To tell the truth, standing here was slightly awkward to her, since she had not been too close to him, despite what people apparently seemed to think. Her thoughts were jumbled up and she could barely sort out one mess from another. Maybe it might have been better if she had thought of something final to say before she had arrived here. Catching sight of a pink colour at the corner of her eyes, she turned her head to see the falling of the sakura blossoms. Cupping her hands gently, she collected some, placing them at the bottom of Hei’s body.

Death was an unavoidable thing, but it was still extremely hard to admit that this person in front of her, who had been so alive and vivid before, was now dead. If the enemy had managed to defeat their most powerful Captain, what were they going to do? Angry at herself, she shook her head in disbelief. This was not the time to think of something like that. She gazed upon Hei’s body. “I hope you don’t regret leaving this world so suddenly, but…I wish you luck wherever you are,” she finally found the words she was attempting to think of, “And, I promise that I’ll look after Yuki and Tsukiko for you, so don’t have too many worries, alright?” Taking one last look of his body, she reflected upon the fact that she was talking to a dead person as if she was talking to him in real life. Some things still stayed the same in death. As she continued, her voice cracked slightly, “Maybe I’ll meet you again someday, but…until then, make sure you look after yourself, alright?” Turning away, she was slightly shocked to find that there was moisture leaking out of the corner of her eyes. Was she…getting emotional again? Then again, the loss of Hei had been a great burden for everybody and Elisia herself – something she had not admitted until now when she was faced with the fact, yet again, that he was gone from this world.

Nu arrives soon enough, her outfit was a relic from her past, a black suit or regal design, deciding that it was more fitting for an enigma like Hei. Standing before Hei's grave, she sighed, a tired sigh, as though her burning energy has died for the day. Her duties as a Captain suceeded her personal attitudes, and she wished to see how Tsukiko fared these days, Yuki was still in no position to be Captain, news spread that Elisa was the new Captain. She finally stood before the man, the only time she would problably witness his face not furrowed with a plot or a smirk plastered to his slender face. "You stood upon us like a god; I'd figured that if anyone knew how to cheat death, it was you....Sayonara Hei-Taichou" She wasn't particularly close to the man, his genius in combat was all that really mattered, but when the time called to honor a comrade, it was proper to express greif.

She waited until Elisa was done to speak, a shunpo placing her under a sakura tree, not to far from his grave, she leans back, the sight more poetic considering. The day was clear, and yet the atmosphere was almost like Hei's reiatsu;choking. "Is this what a death feels like?...." She earnestly hoped this would be over and done with soon, the mood was unbearable now, and she could only imagine how the day will play out.

Hibiki Kirisho

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Hibiki arrived at the funeral, wearing the appropriate attire for such an occasion, an almost full-white attire. Hei had always earned his undying spite, for a plethora of reasons actually, so much so that even Hibiki himself could not pinpoint the exact origin of his hatred for him. However, that didn't matter anymore, Hei was dead, and the hole he had left in the Gotei 13's ranks, and in the hearts of those who cared for him was as evident as his cold corpse which was now inside the coffin in front of Hibiki. He waited for Elisia and Nu to finish what they were saying, before bowing his head and saying his piece "You may be a king or a little street sweeper, but sooner or later you dance with the reaper." he had quoted it from a book he had read in the Human World, he thought it appropriate for someone like Hei. Letting out a deep sigh, he spared a glance towards Hei's 'family', his brow furrowed as he looked back at Hei.

"You've caused a great deal of pain and suffering, you know that? Captains can be replaced, information can be reacquired, but the hole you left..." he stopped himself from saying anymore, knowing that it wasn't the time nor place. He looked at Elisia, news of her promotion was almost as sudden as Hei's death, he was aware of her potential, but he feared that the time was not best for sudden changes. However, he respected Yuki's decision, and didn't comment anymore, he simply stood there with Nu and Elisia as he waited for the others.

博士月子
Jūnibantai Taichō

A week had come and gone since Hei's passing and lots of stuff had gone on during that time. The news had to be broken to her grandparents, it hadn't been an enjoyable experience. What's more was the funeral preparations had to be tended to along with repairs all over the Seireitei, mostly the result of Tsukiko taking out her frustration on innocent buildings. She had long since grown tired of the word "sorry" when dishing out an apology and had just resorted to completely ignoring the damage she had caused, leaving some straight-faced low-seated minion to do it for her. It was hardly the best approach, but given her still shaken state of mind, there was little to be done. Even now she was continuously slipping into extended spots of depression that lasted for hours on end. However, in her lucid moments, she was hard at work not only preparing for the funeral, but for something far more... big. Suffice to say, her father was the not the only thing being buried on this day.

Lacking her skin, Tsukiko was quite doll-like in appearance, though most of this was covered up by her white kimono, leaving only her hands and neck for others to gawk at should they find it strange that Tsukiko was essentially naked, or at least in Gynoid terms. Her hand went to her mother's forearm as her grandmother cried in her grandfather's embrace, virtually distant from things being said by those around them. Tsukiko's gaze slid back, looking at the hill behind her. A distant look in her eyes, though this was difficult to perceive given how soulless her eyes normally looked. Training her gaze on Yuki, she unconsciously moved closer to her as a defense mechanism to the pain. A moment passed and she made a gulping sound and released Yuki, taking a step forward to look at her father in the casket. Her father's katana lay in her hands, they had been cleaned so well that they looked brand new and even the saya shone in the afternoon sun. Carefully, Tsukiko lay the katana in the casket, placing them across his chest and putting his hands to rest over them. Moving back, she positioned herself three feet from the casket's edge.

"Daddy..." She began. "I'm not sure how to put this, but... I hate you. I hate you for leaving mommy and me all alone. I hate you for not saying goodbye to me before you died. I hate you for causing all this sadness and pain and I hate you even more for this giant burden you left me with. I hate you for saying until we meet again, even though you're never coming back. But... I think what I hate most about this is that... I can't actually hate you for anything. Maybe... if you had been an awful father, this would be so much easier to bear. But dammit... you were the best father a girl could ask for. Everyone else meant nothing to you... everyone but me, your little girl. Your little girl and your sister... How can I possibly hate someone who risked their life to give me life again? You gave me so much... but in the end, I couldn't repay the debt." Tsukiko sank to her knees and her voice fell as tears fell down her face, dampening her kimono. Her body slid forward, her hands coming to her thighs, bunching the kimono in between her doll-like fingers. "I love you so much daddy..." Her voice wavered and her gaze fell to the ground, she sat there like an unmovable statue, unable to get up from her current position, or unwilling to at the very least.

Akiyama Eriko, Gobantai Fukutaicho

"Freedom comes at the cost of your fearful ways. Pay it."

Eriko had had to restrain herself from ripping the plain white garments from her body on the way over to the funeral site. However, the reason for wearing it sobered her anytime the urge made itself present. Presently, the recent Fukutaicho was finishing her short journey towards the casket. She had stopped when Tsukiko began her open mourning over her father's body. Something that she had mentioned stuck with Eriko while she listened. 'If he had been an awful father, this would be so much easier.' Thoughts of her own father plagued her mind at this point and she grasped the edge of the open casket for balance but pulled her hand back immediately.

"I'm so sorry." Her words came as a whisper to her ears. What was she apologizing for? Was it the fact that she had not known him well enough in her mind even to be here? No, she was apologetic that two men, one a b*****d and the other, 'the best father a girl could ask for' and both got the same treatment: death. "I'm sorry that you did not get more time with your family but even in your death, you were doing your duties. I know you don't need it but I'm proud of you as a father, Hakase Hei. You are the only example I have right now of what a father should be like and I thank you for that as well. Again, I'm sorry that you did not get more time but these things work out. You know, you know..."

The tears were coming even though she had told herself that she would not cry. In reality, there was no reason for her to shed tears. He was not her father. She had not been close to him in any sense of the word, yet she was sobbing. "Rest in peace, sir." Eriko wiped her face and nodded at the family of the deceased before turning away to stride over by Elisia. She took her place by the newly instated Captain. She whispered her congratulations to her on the promotion but stayed quiet for the rest of it to see who else would be attending the event.

KATO MEISHI

“Turn your
face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you...”

xx xx

User ImageUser ImageKato entered in the same attire as everyone else, save for his silver chain around his neck. He sighed as he approached the casket and stopped a foot behind Tsukiko. He looked upon the casket, still unbelieving. Kanpata trembled and said loud enough for Tsukiko to hear, “Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love... time is eternity. May he find peace...May you find peace, little one." Kato looked at Kanpata with amazement as he bowed first to Hei's adoptive parents, then Yuki, and finally, Tsukiko. He glanced at the casket once last time before reappearing beside Hibiki and giving Tsukiko her space. Kato nodded to Elisia and gave her a discreet thumbs-up; although he couldn't muster up a smile. He looked at Eriko and nodded solemnly. Sometimes there were no words that could be said to console a broken but still beating heart.

⋆⋆⋆ELISIA xRIYU
squadxfourxCAPTAIN

Elisia noticed the appearance of two Captains, as she turned away. They were most likely saying their goodbyes to him too, all the past put away. Nobody would be foolish enough to think of the bad things of somebody if they were dead now. As Tsukiko appeared, Elisia was about to reach out and comfort her, but she kept her distance away. Unfortunately, she wasn’t exactly the best at reassuring people and it would be best if she just gave Tsukiko some space for the meantime, instead of crowding her. Yuki would be best at comforting Tsukiko and Elisia might just make it worse. However, as Tsukiko spoke of Hei being the best father, she sighed, looking up at the sky as she reflected. It hadn’t been too long since she had seen her father, she had last seen him at her sister’s funeral. That hadn’t been the best place and maybe it was about time she put their past differences behind them. She didn’t want to wait until death or something like that to reconcile with him.

Eriko had moved next to her, and Elisia patted her head slightly awkwardly. It seemed like everybody was crying, and Elisia herself had just managed to stop her tears from flowing, even if there was moisture threatening to leak. Rummaging through her pouch, she silently offered Eriko some tissues, whispering back, “Thanks and congratulations on your promotion as well.” Lifting her head, she managed to catch Kato’s thumbs-up to her. She attempted to smile but it didn’t work so she inclined her head slightly in his direction, promising herself that she would make time to catch up with him later. No-one would know whether any of them might vanish at any time, so she had better do everything that she had been meaning to.

Malchut Sephira - Being of Lowliness

It hadn't taken long for the news to reach Zenos' ears. Shinigami were just like their human counterparts, both races having their fair share of gossipers or ones that found themselves unable to shut up. The lesser Shinigami would talk while on patrol, sometimes to themselves, and on a rare occasion, to the other lesser Shinigami on patrol. The hollow hiding themselves from these spiritually aware, but quite inept beings would gain this information and take it back to Hueco Mundo. The information spread through the ranks like wild fire, and once Zenos obtained it, he had rolled out of his bed, dressed himself, and had come to personally check to see if the rumors were true; if the Dark King was truly dead.

Slowly but surely, Zenos traversed the Garganta's pathway, finally coming to a point where he stopped and raised his hand. The motion caused a jagged, cubic-like edge to etch itself across the space just in front of him. A soft but resounding noise much like a zipper occurred as the Garganta ripped itself open an exit, revealing to him a gargantuan halberd anchored to the ground, it's blade facing the wooden cross of an equally large size. He looked up to the top and then shut his eyes, his Pesquisa expanding far across the Seireitei. A gathering of high Reiryoku signatures just in front of him told him where he needed to be, and he vanished with a soundless Sonido, only to reappear at the foot of the hill itself. From here he could see the casket, so the rumors were true. With a vacant stare at the Captains and Lieutenants who had already gathered, Zenos slid his hands into his navy blue pants and casually strolled closer, stopping several dozen feet away as if he were content with watching for the moment. His Reiryoku was completely suppressed and he had no mask fragment, so it was difficult to tell he was an Arrancar without witnessing him release. However, he assumed the Captains would figure it out anyway, perhaps one of them already knew who he was; it's not as though he had ever tried to hide his existence, save during the slaughter 45 years ago.

...and thus the world is petrified.

He didn't have much place here, he knew...yet, there was something that compelled him to come, like he was simply so affected by everybody else's pain that he himself had decided to pay respects. True, he'd admired Hei from afar during the battle with Aurelius, but he had little doubt that more than a hundred other Shinigami felt the same admiration (perhaps most of this admiration was forced, but that wasn't the point).

Tadashi, dressed in the same attire as the other mourners plus the Lieutenant's badge on his shoulder went to stand with Hibiki.

'I didn't know you very well, and many others besides you have died...so why is it that I cry on the inside?'

Akiyama Eriko, Gobantai Fukutaicho

"Freedom comes at the cost of your fearful ways. Pay it."

Why was it such a sad time? Eriko took Elisia's hand on her head as the comforting gesture that it was as well as the tissues, dabbing at her eyes with them. "Thanks for these and the congrats. Let's hope that our superiors knew what they were doing," she joked with a brief smile. The entrance of another Captain had not fazed as it was only natural that they of all people would come to pay their respects to the one, understood to be of the strongest of them. Why was her Taicho not there as yet then? She did not have any delusions about their relationship but still, an early attendance was not too much to ask. Eriko made her breathing regular again and pushed back any thoughts about her own father to the back of her mind, where they belonged. Everyone was so morose. It was upsetting to say the least.

The Fukutaicho lowered herself to balance on her toes, expressing her boredom with the simple action. Idlely, the girl played with fallen petals and watched as the wind picked them up only to let them fall again. The sight was too nostalgic for her liking but it was better than observing the all-round pained and grief-stricken faces around her. Maybe that is why she took notice of him first as well as that she was at ground level. A new pair of feet was easy to spot. Eriko looked up at the stranger and tried to feel him out but nothing came back to her. That was even more worrisome. Slowly, she returned to her full height with eyes ever present on the man and nudged Elisia as discreetly as she could manage. Her voice volume had decreased once again but the other female should be able to hear her. "Hey, do you know that guy over there? He does not look like a Shinigami and is definitely not a hollow." Of course, there was another possibility but why would an Arrancar be at Hei's funeral?

The faint, yet distinct sound of a Garganta made her raise her head, her eyes trying to pinpoint its source. She overhead mumbling nearby from Eriko and arched her head, eventually locking in place to a newcomer. He was actively supressing his reiryoku to a minimal level, though while not uncommon, it was perhaps her paranoia that deemed him suspicious. He too was dressed in western clothes, though not for the occasion. She was sure that the message of Hei's death reached throughout Soul Society, and the dress code, while not strictly enforced, should have made the man dress in something more fitting to the occasion. Rising from her seated place by the tree, she walks over slowly, as though paying interest to the weather, before she was a few feet away from him.

He was a new face, and she was sure that she would have remebered seeing a man with white hair around, though that is too rash to label him as an enemy. His lack of any hollow-like features made her wary, yet she couldn't just outright call him out, not here of all places.

KATO MEISHI

“Turn your

xx xx

User ImageUser ImageKato's ears twitched at the unfamiliar sound of a garganta opening; especially here, in the Soul Society, of all places. He had been in the 2nd Division long enough to notice that Nu was secretly scoping something...or someone, out. Not drawing any attention to himself, Kato muttered "Bakudō #26: Kyakko", then created a light clone and had it casually walk over to Nu and ask her a trivial question. Nu should recognize that this was a clone, and plan accordingly. To everyone else, it would appear that Kato had just walked over to Nu, not even alerting anyone to the presence of the mysterious figure. As the clone left, Kato soundlessly jumped onto a sakura tree and watched the man closely. This was a sacred time, and it was Kato's job as the Soul Society's investigation specialist to find out who or what is he; but most importantly, why he came here in the first place.

[Shorter then I had planned...]

Elisia nodded, not wanting to speak too loudly for fear of upsetting the others who were paying their respects. Finally she settled on whispering, “I’m sure we’ll both do fine, hopefully, at least, we’d be able to help in some way.” After that, her gaze settled upon Tadashi, who had arrived. She had been talking to him just after Hei’s death, about Hei and himself. Memories started to resurface again but she pushed them down, barely able to keep a calm façade. Taking some extra tissues from her pouch, she wiped away any moisture in her eyes and while she looked less depressed without her tears, she still couldn’t bring herself to smile or laugh or do anything remotely happy. It wasn’t only that it would be extremely rude to do something like that at a funeral, but she couldn’t bring herself to do anything like that. Maybe it might be better if she talked to people for a bit later, instead of cooping herself up in her room, since that really would do her more harm than good.

Caught up in her thoughts, she had heard the soft sound of the Garganta but took no notice of it, until Eriko nudged her. Hmm? Lifting her head, she gazed at the man before him. This wasn’t good. She couldn’t feel anything from him at all, and she had a distinct feeling that he wasn’t a Shinigami and he definitely wasn’t a human. Lowering her head, she whispered back to Eriko, “I’m not sure who that is. He doesn’t look like either, as you said, and I don’t think he’s a human, due to the fact that he managed to use a Garganta.” Her eyes narrowed slightly but she moved her gaze away from him, towards where Kato had walked over to Nu. It would not be good to start a full-blown fight right now at Hei’s funeral and she would only act if necessary – something she didn’t especially want to do right now. Maybe it might be better to see what the other Captains said, before attacking him. For all she knew, he could be here peacefully…or not.
