I went into the doctor's on the 27th and i was dialated to a one, well when I went back wednesday I was still at a one. Does it usually take so long to dialate? And are there any ways of "helping" it along? Thanks for the feedback smile

I was at a 2 outside, a 1 inside for over three weeks of visits. And then two days after my due date I started having real contractions and by the time I decided to go to the hospital (after six hours) I was dialated to 5.
It's normal to just be a tad bit dilated as your uterus does some practice contractions, and just gets soft in general. It's normal also to just be a little bit dilated for what seems like FOREVER. Because you're only REALLY going to progress into labor when that baby drops down onto the cervix.
So you can say that right now you are not "dilating", rather your cervix is just getting ready for ACTUAL physical progressive dilation.
In my first pregnancy I was dilated at 2 for weeks before my due date and a WEEK after and didn't start physically dilating as in actual labor until I was put on pitocin.
OH and as for the "helping it along" none of those labor stimulators actually work unless you are in active labor. Lots of women try mexican food and sex, etc. Before they are in actual labor, and generally claim that whatever last thing it was they tried before going into labor was what made them go into labor. It's the BABY that makes you go into labor, a chemical THEIR body releases and THEIR movement onto the cervix.
If you ARE in labor things like walking and such can actually stimulate more active labor.
Heck if I thought anything brought on labor since I was sick like a DOG when I went into labor I'd be out telling people Robitussin makes you go into labor. xd

I was dialated to 2cm for several weeks with my second. It might even have gone longer if they hadn't induced.
Ok ok I know it won't send you in to labor, but seimen is supposed to help things soften up and get ready. So I you are in the mood. Doesn't hurt to try. Heck if it doesn't do anything atleast you are getting in some final action be for 6 weeks of going with out blaugh .

I was over 2 cm dialated for about a month. I had lost my plug, and was just waiting for labour to kick in.
Some women just seem to dialate and get stuck. Thats what happened to me. I has induced sweatdrop

Just read your journal. I love baby stories! xd
I HATE Pitocin though! That stuff is awful, and I seriously think they shouldn't prescribe it so often, and instead let us try to go through labor on our own! I suppose it wouldn't have been SO horrible if only the anesthesiologist hadn't taken his sweet time (2 hours!) getting to the hospital after he was summoned. But you're right! Pitocin contractions are far worse than normal, and I nearly ripped the arm off my hospital bed.

congrats on your new baby!
they say that peple can take weeks to dialate completely. but with me, i went in monday and was dialated to one and the doctor said that it will most likely happen in a couple of weeks. since i wasnt due for another three and a half weeks. then on friday i woke up and stepped out of bed and my water broke. I had my princess in my arms that night at 6:13pm.

Last week I was 50% effaced and 1 centimeter dialated. When I went to the doctor yesterday I was 2 centimeters. I'm frustrated, though, because this is my THIRD pregnancy and I was hoping that things would go a lot faster along.
I'm now 2 days over due and they're talking about inducing me if I don't have the baby by monday. I really don't want to be induced because I know what pitocin contractions are like from a previous labor.
