Chewa wondered where everyone had gone. Bhanu'Ecchumati had always seemed like a pretty big place, at least to him, and many members preferred to keep to themselves, but this part of the pride looked downright deserted. Every now and then Chewa would stop and look around. He felt pretty certain that there was someone watching him, maybe even stalking him, and indeed he did see someone now and then. Most of the time he didn't.

Aside from the creeping onset of hunger, Chewa was hardly aware of how much time had passed or where he was going. The last thing he remembered his father had been talking to him, trying to get him to do something... something... So Chewa went away to do... something... and now that something seemed to involve walking a very long way, although he wasn't sure when he was supposed to stop.

A lot of people said he was like his mother; that he was forgetful, a little bit off. Chewa didn't believe them. Sure, his mother could be a little weird sometimes, but that didn't mean he was weird too.

As he was walking a large tree caught his eye. Chewa slowed to a stop and stared at it for a couple of minutes. There was... something up there. He took a few steps forward, stopped and looked around again, thinking someone might be watching, then jogged up to the tree and stood underneath it, staring into the branches with an overly-absorbed expression.

Umuthi'johari had been watching the pretty colored boy from a far for a few minutes. He had come wandering in the area in which she had decided to take a nap and was staring intently at a tree before him. Curious, Umu decided she was going to stare up in the tree too, but to her disappointment she found nothing. Simply a tree, with some empty tree branches.

The chocolate colored juvenile got up from the patch of shade under a large bush she had found and made her way to Chewa, seating herself next to him while he was starring intently on the spot in the trees that was empty.

"What is up there?" Umu asked, looking over to Chewa interestedly, a big smile on her pretty little face, "Is it food?"

Chewa was so absorbed by the tree that he didn't notice the juvenile until she spoke. He blinked several times and looked around, confused as to where the voice had come from, until he happened to glance down and saw that a strange cub had teleported down beside him. His eyes widened in amazement.

He stared at her for a moment then looked back up into the tree where that thing was - he assumed - hiding. "Maybe."

He started to put his front paws onto the bark. His claws scratched on the bark but he didn't pull himself up. He felt distracted by the cub and looked at her again, still wondering how she had snuck up on him so fast. It was a little unnerving. There was something else strange about her, too. "Are you... a lion?"

Umu giggled, sitting on her back legs and covering her little muzzle with her paws. This boy was funny, and made her smile and she liked this. Umu's tail swayed side to side as she finished her little heart-warming laugh and put back down her paws on the ground tenderly.

"Well of course I am a lion, what else am I supposed to be?" She asked, looking down at her legs and her tail and her paws, "At least I hope I'm a lion. I mean I look like one, right?"

The little chocolate juvenile stood back up and approached Chewa, placing a paw on the tree his claws happened to be scratching and looked up into the tree. He said there might be something up there, leaving Umu to speculate out loud about it.

"What is it? That maybe in the tree?" She looked over at him and smiled, a little purr rising from her chest, "I'm Umu, who're you?"

"Yeah... I guess so. I'm a lion, too." He smiled back a little shyly. There were so many hybrids in his pride that he felt very surprised to meet another lion. Maybe there were more lions in this part of the pride. If that was so, did that mean his family had been living in the wrong area for his whole life? That would be really weird! He laughed suddenly, without realizing that his laughter came at an odd place in the conversation.

He realized that he was still standing on his hind-legs. This was a very strange position to be in. It felt a little uncomfortable, but he still wondered if he could keep standing this way without the help of the tree.

Oh right, the tree thing! Chewa scanned the branches frantically. This time he couldn't find it no matter where he looked - but he felt certain it was still up there. He could feel it watching them. Determined to bring it down, he scrambled up into the branches in search of it.

Chewa used to be quite adept at tree climbing as a cub. He was slightly undersized for his age, because he hadn't been eating very well lately, but he was still too big for this tree. After trying to climb up too quickly Chewa's claws flew loose and he hit the ground on his back. Fortunately, he never made it up far enough to hurt himself in his fall. He groaned and rolled around in the grass to try and relieve the sting.

Umu watched fascinated as Chewa climbed the tree before her. She had never climbed a tree before and had never really thought about doing so. She was no leopard, and she had her big strong daddy to keep her from ever being harmed, so hiding up a tree was never something she had to deal with.

Umu contemplated climbing the tree herself when she caught Chewa fall to the ground with a thud. While he was indeed bigger than she and was probably not hurt as badly as she would have been if she were to one taking the tumble, Umu couldn't help but scurry over to him to see if he was ok.

"Where'd you hurt yourself?" Umu asked, concerned and inspecting every inch of Chewa that was visible to her as he rolled in the grass. "Stop moving! I can't see if you broke skin if you keep moving."

Umu's frantic checking only caused Chewa to squirm more. At first he squirmed out of nerves; everything had happened so fast, between falling out of the tree and Umu rushing over to look at him, and he was confused. Then it started to become kind of a game. Chewa batted his paws at her, laughing without explanation.

She seemed like a nice cub. Chewa didn't meet a lot of nice cubs in Bhanu'Ecchumati. They all wanted to beat him up. Maybe this time he'd made a real friend.

At first Umu was a little upset at the fact that Chewa would not stay still and made her displeasure known in a small but solid growl. With a sigh, though, she let go of her investigation to see if he was ok, because anyone who was not ok would not be trying to play games with her.

Since Chewa seemed like he wanted to play, Umu decided to take advantage of this and went to plop her little juvenile sized body on top of him for some play wrestling. Umu was never really serious about the play wrestling or hunting, and only enjoyed the fact she was having fun physical contact with whomever was playing with her at the time. It was all apparent in her voice, as she tended to giggle non-stop as she played.

"Where are you from?" She asked Chewa as they played. In her Rogue Land journeys with her father and brothers she met all sorts of new people, some in prides and some not in prides; she very much liked hearing where they all hailed from.

Chewa giggled along with her, happily rolling around in the grass. Even though he could have easily hurt her he batted her and nibbled her fur, Chewa was extremely gentle. He learned gentleness form his father, who loved to wrestle him when he was a cub, before everything changed.

"Around here," Chewa answered breathlessly. He still believed they were in Thona's pride lands. He looked at her excitedly. "My mom and dad are Manorama and Hero. Do you know them?"

Umu shook her head as they played, "I don't know Manorama or Hero. I don't even know where 'around here' is."

Which in all fairness she didn't. She was under the impression she was still within the Rogue Lands, only a forested area of it. Umu blinked for a few minutes and licked Chewa's face as she pondered aloud, "Daddy thought this play was just forested Rogue Land territory. I wasn't born here, I was born in a desert, so this place is new to me"

Chewa looked puzzled. If Umu didn't know where she was, then she must be lost. Bhanu'Ecchumati was a tough pride. He still remembered how the guard had threatened him and his father when they first came to the lands. There was very little he remembered about the rogue lands outside, but he did remember how much that guard had frightened him and how if not for his father he might have been killed. He stopped playing, ears drooping nervously. "No. This is a pride-place."

Chewa looked around. He knew there were other pride members near by, probably watching and waiting until he left Umu alone. They might even want to kill her. He sat up suddenly, his fur standing on end. "You should... get outta here. Where's your dad?"

Umu's ears dropped as Chewa's did. His nervousness made her nervous, if not a litttle jumpy, considering his words to her. She did not know this was pridal lands, as her father and herself had not picked up any pridal scent markings. She felt guilty almost instantly, like she had when she had met Mr. Spenta, and went on his lands without knowing.

"Daddy is hunting for food..." Umu said quietly, "Arlo and Kaito are nearby waiting for him."

Umu looked around attempting to spot her father and brothers. She could not see their pelts, and within this vegetation it was even harder to spot them, they blended in so well after all.

"If we ask, would they let us stay until we've fed?" Umu asked, hoping the pride was not a mean pride.

Chewa shook his head so fast that his hair whipped around his face and strung his eyes. He was getting quite worked up about this now. "You have to go now! They..." His ears twitched and he turned in a circle, tail swishing in agitation. He crouched on his belly, whimpering with fear. "They're here. They've seen us. Oh no no no no no."

Umu started to fill with fear at Chewa's actions. She didn't want to be killed or eaten or hurt by whoever owned these lands. The little lioness started calling for her father or brothers, little tears starting to well up in her eyes. She didn't want to be here anymore, but was unsure of which direction her brothers or father were now in. Why couldn't they have wandered into an area that wasn't so hostile? Like Mr. Spenta's lands! He'd let them stay and eat.

"Daddy! Daddy!"

Umu's fright only made Chewa more afraid. His heart beat against his rib cage, he started hyperventilating and all his fur stood on end. Suddenly he bolted away from the little cub, never looking back. It wasn't that he wanted to leave her all alone in this dangerous place. He simply didn't know what else to do. Surely Umu would run too. All he could think about was getting as far away from this place as possible before the guards came for them.
