I read on many sites that there are actually some rituals you are supposed to do before doing a spell. Like cleaning yourself of sin, something like that? Bathing yourself in water with essential oils, whatever. So I'm wondering, is that really necessary?
*And should I open the circle before doing a spell?

No it isn't necessary. It is all personal preference. I generally don't cleanse before casting spells, though I do take a ritual bath before I celebrate Sabbats and Full Moons.
Circles are also optional. Some consider it creating a sacred space, others just a protected area to work in. I consider all of nature a sacred space so I don't usually cast one for that purpose. Depending on the type of spell I am working I have cast one for protective purposes.

Clensing is mainly a personal preference. I usually do it because I feel it helps get rid of negetive energy that may be lingering around and possibly interfere with whatever it is I'm doing. Its a way of starting fresh so that all my energy can be properly focused on what I'm trying to achieve.
Casting circle on the other hand...I wouldn't say its nessisary, but I highly reccomend you do some kind of circle to protect yourself. Magic work can attract all kinds of energies and spiritual beings; some of which may be helpful and others which can be quite negative and harmful. The point of the circle is 1) to form a protected space where you are safe from outside energies you do not want interfering, and 2) to have a place to gather your own energies and contain them until you are ready to release them to the universe. In my opinion, a circle is extremely important to any kind of ritual or magic that you do.
That being said, casting circle doesn't have to be a lengthy, complicated process. If you are short of time, or simply don't want to spend much effort casting circle, you can simply take a minute to envision yourself and your work area surrounded by a large bubble of white light that only good may pass through. It will take 30 seconds of your time and should be sufficient.

Thanks for telling us about the whole shortcut thing of casting a circle by envisioning a bubble of white light....I admit, I'm a bit lazy, I like shortcuts lol.

It is not necessary, but I think its a good idea if just for the fact that it puts you in ritual mindset and helps one focus. If for some reason I'm in a hurry I just use sage to cleanse.
