User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It pleases Catch to, on occasion, arrange herself in lovely vignettes in some of the more-frequented areas of the swamp in the hopes that some passing buck--or doe of a particular leaning, be it amorous or jealous--will stumble on her and think that it is entirely coincidental that this stunning doe is caught in a shaft of moonlight, water beaded on her vibrant coat and bird perched upon her horn with wings outstretched.

The practice of holding a particularly elegant pose has instilled in the doe certain qualities that might otherwise have never entered her shallow little mind: patience, mostly; a certain ability to ignore the twinge of an aching muscle. It is surprising what endurance mere vanity can induce.

At the moment Catch is not in a particularly trafficked area of the swamp. Nonetheless, her ears are opened, and when she hears a sound that could be a small animal but might be the approaching hoofs of another of her kind, she quickly arranges herself in a clear pool, taking the time to dunk her head. It pleases her vanity to have water clinging to her coat, to the bright, almost avian colours that are emphasized with a line of nearly-metallic teal. The droplets create a satin sheen, a silken, luxurious look like an otter's fur but far more lovely. Melody, on cue, settles onto her owner's horns and spreads her magnificent pale wings. Catch doesn't need the fancy manes or elaborate scales of some of the more notable beauties in the swamp. For Catch, a fortunate coat, the blessing of elegant bone structure, a face to make the breath catch in a buck's throat, and a generous helping of good old-fashioned vanity is enough to do the job.

Posturing neatly in a dappled sunbeam, looking as though she is merely in the middle of enjoying the sight of a cluster of white flowers nearby, Catch waits to see who she can lure in today.

Distant Venture, or Trip as he prefers to be called is on his way to a favored watering hole after one of his son's endless tricks. This one happening to be gleefully smashing a nest of bird-eggs atop his head while sleeping. If the Colt weren't so quick-footed and sly, Trip would have surely dealt him a sharp n** to his flank as punishment. As is, he scowls sharply the entire way to the place where he knows clear water to be in order to wash himself.User Image

The yolks have already begun to dry, yellow and sticky and messy to the sides of his storm-gray face. By all means, he is not a vain kimeti, but neither is he one who enjoys to have egg stuck atop his head. So, as he comes into the clearing and spots the beautiful doe before him, he is surprised to find that after his initial intake of breath at her beauty, he is slightly embarrassed at his own appearance. But for all his stoic seriousness, Trip is far from blind, and he would have to be, indeed, he thinks, to miss what was literally right before his eyes.

For half a second he falters, then clears his throat and steps boldly forward.

"I hope you don't mind? A certain young buck of mine decided it would be fun to dump eggs atop my head during a nap.." His voice is a little gruff-- he is not one to usually be delicate, and perhaps it shows, but neither does he seem unkind or overly rough.

Catch's voice doesn't quite live up to the rest of her, but she has plenty of time to modulate it into something at least pleasing, a bit throaty, a bit girlish. A bit artificial, altogether. "What sort of a selfish thing would I be if I minded?" She eyes his head, and laughs a practiced, slightly-mocking laugh. "He made quite a mess, didn't he?"
PostPosted: Sun Jun 06, 2010 8:18 pm

At her laugh, Trip's frown deepens, though not necessarily at her. "Yes, well... he does seem to enjoy suck tricks as these." He sighs a bit then before stepping into the water and dipping down until he's fully submerged. He shakes his head a bit under the water to get the rest of the yolk out before coming up again and sighs as the sticky mess dissolves off his coat.

"Much better. I'm Distant Venture, by the way. I prefer to go by Trip though. My son-- well, he's not actually my son, but I raised him-- enjoys playing pranks such as these. He doesn't really mean any harm by it but... sometimes he does make quite a mess."

Hm. Older men. Catch approves. "Perhaps a bit of discipline is in order?" she suggests. "I was quite a naughty filly, but I was one of those fortunate ones running wild without a bit of parents to my name, so all my wickedness just took root and grew right up." She tosses her sleek head (Melody takes flight with a graceful patter of wings) and adds, with an expression of theatrical demureness, "I am a reformed character now. Of course."

"If I could catch him, perhaps. He's as wily as a mongoose, and just as quick, too. Though I'm afraid it doesn't look like he'll be out-growing it any time soon." He turns to look at her, a small, rare smirk on his lips. "Oh really?" His voice is equally dripping with sarcasm. "Somehow I find that difficult to believe. Though hopefully you aren't quite as fond of the same sorts of tricks he is. Bird's eggs and pincer beetles?"

"Oh," she says. "Much worse. Pincer beetles may be good for a giggle, but those lizards with the blue tails hold on longer." She seems momentarily distracted.

Wily as a mongoose, and just as quick--

It sounds like something she remembers. But she recovers quickly, with a daring little toss of her head and a laugh. "Not that I'd know, though."

Trip laughs, a startling but not unpleasant sound-- and seems just as surprised by it as the comment that caused it. It's deep, like his voice, but it only lasts a few moments before it ends, and he simply shakes his head and stares at her.

"I'll have to watch myself around you, won't I?" He gives her a sidelong look and sinks further into the pond, to the deeper parts. The water rides over his knees, and over his flanks, the gray of his coat blending in like a stone. "I got by Trip, though in my dreams they call me Distant Venture-- and you?"

She slides her head under the water for a moment before she answers, letting the water bead on her otter-smooth coat and drift in rivulets down her fine neck. "Catch," she answers. She had laughed with him--just a little, sympathetic tinkling sound, at his amusement and not at her own joke. Of course. "As to watching yourself--that's wise no matter who your company is, I feel."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 20, 2010 1:18 am

"Catch." He nods, once, as if saying it to confirm it and smirks just the tiniest bit at her. "It seems... that I do have a knack for finding trouble wherever I go. Perhaps I really should watch myself around you." Though there's a glint of sharp amusement in his eyes, and he seems content enough in the water where he's half float, half standing in the flank-high waters.

Though he wonders, as she laughs, shortly and sweetly, what the doe was doing before he had wandered in upon her. She had almost seemed... unreal, in that first, split-second vision. Ethereal, perhaps-- something fabricated but not real, like some of the kimeti paintings he'd wandered upon during his travels in the past.

He's curious to know if there is more to that vision.

Hopefully, she will be able to fake it. If not, Trip is in for a mighty fine disappointment--Catch is just as shallow as a splash of mud-paint on a flat stone.

"If you expect to find trouble," admonishes Catch, "perhaps you ought to make it a rule for now to watch me instead." She arches her neck, as if to add: and isn't the view MUCH nicer when you do that? "Just like you ought to have watched your son, apparently. You missed a bit."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 23, 2010 3:36 pm

Trip laughs softly at her display and nods a few times. "Yes... yes perhaps I should." He snorts once more after giving her a look-- a kind of knowing look that one might give to a naughty child; knowing and not at all fooled.

"Hm.. My son-- well. He isn't a bad sort, really. He's got a good heart in him. He's just very.... spirited." He smirks slightly, remembering another prank or trick, no doubt, and shakes his head.

"But in any case... I really didn't come to talk about my son." He had come, though, because of his son, as the evidence of egg on his head earlier had proven.

"My mistake. Let's talk about something else instead. I propose: you."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 24, 2010 2:41 pm

He snorts faintly, and cocks his head at her. "Straight to the point. Well..." he isn't really used to talking about himself. Mostly because he's never been the kind of kimeti to travel in groups, and the most company he's kept in awhile has been with Lower Down.

"Well-- what do you want to know about me?"

"Everything," is the obligingly interested response. "Do you and your son belong to a tribe?"
