Monotonous. Work, eat, sleep.
But next month should be fun : D
My birthday, a local anime convention and a beach trip with a bunch of friends.

I'm building my first computer from "scratch" (brand new case and motherboard, scavenging some parts from old computer), and I plan to go camping mid-month.

Heyyy me too~
I just need to put my processor back in and get an OS...
For whatever reason the processor I got at first was missing a pin (wtf) so I had to wait almost two months for AMD to approve my warranty request and send me a new one.
Not that it matters, since I dont have an OS.
Wooo~

I'm all set... except my old power supply's cords do not reach the main power connector on the motherboard... and the case fans need a power converter. I may just get a better power supply instead of buying the cords. My old one is 400w, and the mobo recommends 500w.

Whatever I'm buying, it's happening tomorrow. I wants my cocaine computer back. xP

But that sucks. It would take me some effort to figure out a processor's pin was missing.

Power supplies are cheap anyway, as far as computer parts go.
Mines 850w or something stupid, and it was only 50 bucks. Pretty sure that was a flamin' deal though.
Yeah, I didnt actually notice the pin myself. My (ex)boyfriend was looking at it to see if we had somehow put it in the wrong way or something and spotted it by chance.
I'm not even sure AMD noticed. Their warranty terms have all sorts of clauses about not accepting returns due to physical damage, because you can't prove whether it happened in shipping or you just dropped it. Kindof a dickish policy, but its not really clear whether is there to scare you and they don't enforce it (You think AMD would notice a missing pin after all) or if they really are that strict and somehow didnt notice.
Either way, I have my new one now and I'm just procrastinating putting it in. Clamping the heatsink on scares the pants off me.

That's double lucky, finding the problem and getting a new processor out of it.

As long as you put in plenty of thermal grease and follow the directions, it's not so horrible. My heat sink screws on, so I have to use an extra-long phillips-head to put it in place, which is semi-nerve-wracking ("Damn, where'd that screw roll to now?"). At least yours isn't affixed with easily breakable plastic pins, like a lot of Intels are now.

I completely disassembled my old computer last night (I really should show a picture of my Dell's skeleton; it's funny) and put most of it into the new computer, which took a solid 5 hours. I felt like it was a big accomplishment, so I had a beer afterward. I just can't test it all until I have the power supply/cords, and no computer shops are open on the weekend. Annoying.

My heat sink is a massive brick held on by giant metal clips on the side. They fit so tightly you end up bending the mobo when youre putting them on and it freaks me out beyond reason.
I didnt use any of the parts from my old pc, but I took it apart anyway : D It was a tiny thing, designed to sit under the monitor. The inside of it was like a maze of baffling cabled all crammed into a space far too small for them.
And next to my new case its the cutest thing ever.

I'm busy and yet not busy at all. It feels sort of weird.

My heatsink is also a brick, but the bending of the motherboard is scary. D=

My new case is about double the size of my old one. Putting them next to each other is sad. I went from a MicroATX to a full tower. I'm amazed everything fit in the old case.

It's almost summer. That feeling should be prevalent.

Everyone tells me its normal for it to bend like that but it still makes me cringe D:

Yeah, double size sounds about right for mine too xD The case I have now isn't even all that large, either.

Yay! I just went to the local computer store, bought a new 600w power supply aaaaaaand internal power extension cords. I tested my comp in the shop. On the first plug-in and power-up, it ran... and it recognized my old install of windows! Yay, no reinstalling. mrgreen

Apparently, I forgot to plug in one fan. Otherwise, all green (well, more like blue and red with the LEDs). I'm typing this from the newly constructed computer. Happy day!

Garts!

I have settled with a laptop for years now, and miss the power and beauty of a high end machine.
