For some reason I have "Must Be Dreaming" by Frou Frou in my head and it looks like it's setting up residence. Ever get that song stuck in your head for days? Yeah, you know, like "The Macarena" or "Another One Bites the Dust"?

So, for discussion, let's talk about all those songs that have (or still are) stuck in your head, and what kinds of methods you use to rid yourself of them.

Personally, I try to learn all the lyrics, and somehow, that drives the darn song away..but that can be hard when the song in question seems to be sung by a drunk Ozzy Ozborne with no grasp on what a "vowel" is.

Have you ever heard of the Cheeky Girls? I have Hooray Hooray it's a cheeky holiday stuck in my head! If you don't know the words they basically go, "Hooray Hooray it's a cheeky holiday, Hooray Hooray it's a cheeky holiday,Hooray Hooray it's a cheeky holiday Hidey hidey ho." for 3 minutes. It will rot your brain. To get rid of it, I desperately listen to some other tecno song or death metal or SOMETHING that will drive it out. (it burns...)

I saw them once on Brainiac, and they are quite lovely, if a bit brainless.

But for me, its been several songs, a lot of them from DDR, and I know they're hooked into my brain when I start to form STORIES for them while the songs playing. I'm not kidding, entires stories played out in the span of the song.

Alright, before I get to writing this, I should point out that most of my little stories springs from thoughts I have.

Now then, while I was listening to Krenlin Dusk, I began to see the story of a knight and his maiden, with the knight going out to stop a malevolent evil thats ruling over the land. But it starts with a female knight wielding her blade and slicing her way to the top of the castle, where her lover lay, enprisoned in a crystal above the vilains lair(and her hairs in a pigtail). As she strides towards the top, she sees visions of her past, of her former self at her house, with the knight about to leave off to go and try to save the world. He fights, he battles, he makes his way to the villain and they have an epic duel, which he loses and ends up becoming one of the tools in his plan to rule with absolute authority.

Meanwhile, his wife (with her hair currently long and un braided) is waiting for him at home, wondering where he could be, and whats taking him so long, longingly staring at his blade that is set in front of her. As the seasons pass her by, she stares out the window, looking for any sign that he might return to her. As she does, his last words to her before he left replay over and over in her mind

"Do not worry about me, my darling. I shall return to you."

When fall returned to her town, she decided, on a clear, starry night, to take up his blade and go out to search for him, with only his image, and her heart to guide her, and his blade to protect her. She travels through the night and for many months to find him, and she eventually finds two gentle men that are willing to help her, or so it seems. Their eyes tell her that they have different plans for her, and she breaks out her blade. She tells them to back off, or she'll impale them both, but they simply ignore her and keep advancing. She wants to find her husband and she'll do whatever it takes to stay faithful to him and seek him out, so she raises her blades and starts to swing, running toward her attackers and aiming for their heads...

It then shifts back to her in the present, cutting her way through the tall, menacing guardian of the door to the room where her lover was in captivity. she ducked under his blade and ran him through with her sword, shoving him all the way to the door and breaking it down. She saw him high above, encapsulated in crystal, and leapt up to go cut him down, when the villain jumped up in front of her and smiled, putting his hand in front of her and blasting her point blank with a ball of dark matter, launching her back several feet and making a nice crater impact on the ground below.

The rest of the fight happens in random order, with a lot of different stuff going on, like uppercuts, dodgin' and evading, and one of the laces holding her pigtail together being cut by a stray slash, but the fight finally starts to go in her favor when she manages to land a 5 hit combo on his leg, his right arm, his knee, his left elbow, and a final power blow across his body that breaks his armour and sends him flying. He responds with a gigantic blast of energy from his hand that pushes her back, and degrades her own armour into rubble when she blocks it. She blocks it, but shes swallowed by the light and begins to dissapear into it. Then, a long haired, golden maiden in flowing robes starts to appear to the villain, and is coming straight for him, her glowing blade raised high and ready to sever him in two.

She does so, and his blast ceases, and he starts to fall to his knee, his face blank as she catches her breath and watches the crystal fall and shatter, freeing her lover. She gives a tired smile and begins staggereing toward him, the glow fading along with her energy. As she walks toward him she says, "Is it like this? Is it always the same? When a heart ache begins, is it like this? If you like this, will you remember my name? Will you play it again if you like this?" *thats whats said in the song* And fades into his waiting arms, his own gentle smile being revealed he carries her home.

Yeah, all THAT within 5 minutes. xD

I had that song by Postal Service that's the theme for Gray's Anatomy in my head during all of the four days I was at winter church camp.

'I must be dreaming" must be one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard!! Even better we found an AMV using that song with clips from Raxephon or however the hell that anime is spelt. Anyways, the music and the amasing editing of the video made it stick in my head for days.

Eh... Stupid little nursery rhymes, usually.

Think "I just can't get you out of my head" by Kylie Minogue, I think.

At one point or another, I seem to have every single song I've ever listened to and remembered stuck in my head like a broken record player. Songs get stuck in my head usually when they are either catchy (obviously) or I want to listen to them but can't.

Right now I have "Just Sick" by Big a** Truck playing over and over again, but Mudvayne tends to repeat the most often, as I listen to them and find myself wanting to listen to them the most.

I have two songs always stuck in my head, one is Nine Inch Nails - Hurt

i hurt myself today
to see if i still feel
i focus on the pain
the only thing that's real

the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but i remember everything

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end

you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

i wear my crown of s**t
on my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
i cannot repair

beneath the stain of time
the feeling disappears
you are someone else
i am still right here

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end

you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

if i could start again
a million miles away
i would keep myself
i would find a way

I also have a song by Origa stuck in my head. It's called Rise. It is the opening song used for Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig. It is such a beautiful sounding song, especially given that the song is done in Russian, which is usually such a rough a choppy sounding language.

If you've ever seen "AMV hell 3: the Movie" you' will see a parody to that AMV using Azumanga Diaoh. It made me laugh my a** off. And the song STILL got stuck in my head.

I've had "Another One Bites the Dust" in my head, and the simplest way to get rid of it is to think of my Grandmother's funeral. To put it quite simply one of the drivers of the hurse was litsening to it while people were walking in, so it tends to remind me of that.

I've been playing DDR all evening, so I have "Speed Over Beethoven" stuck in my head right now...That's the last song I played.

"Bicycle Race" will pop into my head randomly at times, and it never goes away. Same thing with just about any Queen song. "Fat Bottom Girls" is also especially bad as well.
