Genderless Pronouns

[The Ever-Changing Me]

I was reading and came across something about this (it was a while ago) and thought I'd get everyone's opinions on it here.

Basically I was wondering:
Do you use them?

If so, which ones (there seem to be many diferent sets of them according to wikipedia)?

What do you think of them becoming part of the mainstream English language?

Aren't those all genderless pronouns?

yeah, but i meant stuff like replacements for he, she, her, him, etc.

I know that I've used "ze" a little bit recently for an essay I was writing. But other then that I usually do the whole, "they and them" spiel.

We already have genderless pronouns, but calling someone "it" rather than he or she seems a bit cold.

I don't personally know anyone who ...requires...a pronoun other than "he" or "she", so it's never been an issue for me. I have two friends who are genderqueer but both still use "she" as a pronoun.

true.. "it" would probably make me punch people. Though I would guess that it depends on the person, and what they want to have used or whatever feels comfortable to them.

The only time I've actually used 'ze'/'hir' was in writing; I have a roleplaying character that is genderless and prefers pronouns to match. I've never met anyone that actually preferred these pronouns in real life.

Methinks they would get a bit unwieldy; like teaching someone a new language. o_O

I use "they" or "their". It seems to work well in place of possesive pronouns as well. However, all people I know who use these still have a gender they "fall back" on, usually their biological one.

I use 'ze' and 'hir'. It gets a bit difficult, because most people don't know what I mean, but I'm planning on just explaining so that it'll gain more of a following, because I really like 'ze' and 'hir'.

Well in the case of neutrois/androgynous people they sometimes prefer ze,hir,ect

I ask them which they prefer to use and then take it from there.

Everyone has a gender, so the use of genderless pronouns really don't have a use (aside from the list of the above eg. we). Genders don't change becuase of a mental change of heart, and everyone has one.

I have never even heard of "ze" and "hir" before. What do those mean?
