Hey, I have a Furry topic to discuss!

Recently, this news story was brought to my attention by a friend who called it 'borderline Furry'. As a wolf, it made me want to go out, buy some fangs, and find a pack ^^ Yet at the same time, I was wondering if you could really consider these guys close enough to Furry.

So, what's your opinion on these guys? Are they budding Furries? Or are they something different all together? And do you have anything else to say about them? (*still lol-ing at the girl talking about gangstas* XD)

If one has to classify, Lycan. It's a well-establish group on its own which may or may not be wholly furry. On a side note, theriantrophy was made based around Lycan before. I've known a friend who was around when that group formed and was known then as "otherkin". She since left and so have I.

*shrugs*

at least there's one person in this guild who is still willing to talk about furry stuff, and not just video game references >> seriously, I'm getting tired of this sheet.

Agreed.

Funny thing is... This stuff has been around a while. It's just caught recent media attention because well... Vampires and werewolves are the "in" thing right now.

You could consider it furry in the sense that yes, we're dealing with anthropomorphic characters here, or at least that's what they want to believe (they're still just people). But lycantrophy really draws its roots from the horror genre.

You might relate it to theriantrophy, as Trias said before, if you were to refer to it as something within one's "spirit", but it's still not the same. Quite frankly all I see here are role-players who have taken it a bit too far.

My argument is this. These kids actually think they are werewolves, where the extent of my "spiritual connection" with Khleo is simply a character I have created to specifically identify myself with other people of the fandom. I do not actually think I'm a fox/coon, I don't walk about making animal noises, and I sure as hell don't bring such a thing into the workplace. I may share the same attitude and some similar visual attributes with Khleo, but I understand that he is in fact... Not me. These kids don't share that same philosophy. They're not as subtle.

In fact. If I were to meet one of these people in real life, who believed in all seriousness that he/she turns into a werewolf... I would go out of my way to make that person feel like an a**. Because they certainly look like one.

But that's just my opinion, no need to agree with it.

I see where you're coming from ^^ I agree- the actual belief that you are a werewolf is just plain silly.
My connection with wolves is different- I call myself one (sort of) because I admire them in a way, and use my love of wolves in a way to identify myself (a bit extremely so on the internet since I remain so anonymous here). I'd like to wear fangs, ears, and a tail, but more as a fashion statement due to my like for wolves and anthropomorphism as art- not cause I actually think I'm going to magically morph into one rolleyes I also wouldn't bring it into to workplace the same way I wouldn't bring a crude t-shirt into the workplace- there's a time and a place for certain attire.
I think the kids in the cast are taking themselves a bit too seriously...But hey, now I know some nice new terms thanks to you guys! ^^

And while I don't totally like the kids style (there are more stores in the world than Hot Topic, you know stare ) ...it has inspired me some in my own fashion choices XD I want some casual fangs, and a better set of ears and a tail to wear casually, like to the mall with friends and stuff.

seems to me that they thought since people were claiming to be a Cullen, they wanted to put the werewolves of that god-awful series to light...

...but they're doin' it wrong. talk2hand

underneath all of.....THAT...though...what he said about everyone having a sort of animal spirit kinda clicked with me, maybe it's the stereotypical Native American in me, but I wouldn't disagree that there's some animal spirit in us, affecting our actions in extremely subtle ways...one of my friends calls me Bageera from Jungle Book cause she thinks I move like a cat...xD

Anyhow, I stated that because I remember looking therian up on an article, so I know the history of theriantrophy and such. Lycans is just way different than Therian, but yes, I still stand on my claim that they are Lycans. They possess all the things I've read about them and such. It doesn't matter to me the who and why of it all for them, its a matter of fact that they are.

Listen, Bubble...be careful in treading the public display of furrism waters. When you go in there, you're setting yourself up on a feeding frenzy. It'll be either one of two things; fur flamers and moe-lovers.
Fur flamers are bad; they always are. If you add them to religious zealots...though frankly, I never read anything about being against furry in the Roman Catholic Bible.... Perhaps Protestants or something of the like? I suspect Mormons but I can't seem to get a hold of their book....

Moe-lovers...are WORSE! They're the 15-40 year old otaku freak that'll first either faint on sight of you with an anime-style gush of blood out of the nose or jump on you and nuzzle your tail/cheek/ears/you yourself without question. When one's around, there are always TWENTY; you just called the horde. This holds ESPECIALLY true with ears/tail combo. Afterwards, they'll start stalking you wherever you go.
<.< Sadly, I'm also a fan of the ear/tail combo. Someone went to a con as a catgirl...almost couldn't resist pouncing and starting a nuzzlefest....

Really? You can't find a book of the Mormon faith? I've got plenty extra... I live in a Mormon heavy town I'll have to send one your way. I successfully warded them off recently by telling them I was a Satanist (I'm a nihilist actually). Strangely enough they haven't returned...

Anyway... I was laughing at this the other day and I thought it was relevant. If not it's good for a few lulz.

You guys... Promise me you'll never take furry this seriously. You've gotta be able to laugh at it once in a while, or the hate train will s**t you out quick.

I lol'd at that video XD It also game me the nice image of big foot playing some Halo.
I'm really good at being able to laugh at myself, and poke fun at myself, so I don't think I'm going to turn into Teen Werewolf Emo Rage Boy.

Since I'm going into college, though, and a private university at that, I'm hoping for less tweeny high-school drama, and just a tad of maturity. I'm also going to be spending a lot of time in the art department, so maybe being a bit eccentric isn't a bad thing. I guess I'm also just extremely tired of my high school's dress code (uniforms), so now that I'm out, I'm eager to express myself in a way I haven't been able to. I'm a big girl, so I hope I can handle myself.

Yeah.... Never take furry too seriously. I have a friend that took it too much; wearing a fursuit to malls and stuff (and that's a feat...we're talking tropics at 39C!). ...Let's just say I had to tell him out of his fetal position when the whole world crashed down on him. It's a good thing he hasn't met any fur flamers yet...but it's only a matter of time.... I doubt he wouldn't be emotionally scarred for life if comes face-to-face with one.

wow...that video...I don't want it to be real. xD I can't not laugh at people that take it to such a level...I'm always laughing at extremists...they seem so crazy to me. xD

Yay, a good topic! Finally!

Now in response to the teen werewolf thing, I think it's great that the kids can express themselves like that and not be ashamed. But I do also believe that they're taking it a TAD too far. Sure, I associate myself with a wolf but I know when to "act" like one and when not do. Chidori and I call each other a fox and a wolf and most of our friends call us Chidi and Azu, but I also know that I am NOT Azu and never will be. She is just someone to represent myself online and in the furry community.

However I wish there was something like this at my school, I'd be in it. Just, maybe try to get said pack to tone it down a bit. Like, I couldn't do the lenses because I can't stand to put things in my eyes, and I probably wouldn't do the fangs, but the tail, I'm all for that! Just, I don't think my school is furry friendly. People pick on me for coloring pictures of Azuna in Photoshop and I nicely tell them to gtfo. It doesn't bother me, I can easily ignore the retards. But the kid in the video Khleo linked probably needs a lesson in ignoring stupid people like Josh. He seems like a mentally stable person... Just probably not that tolerant or too sensitive.

Perhaps. But in making that video he only made things twenty times worse for himself.

I can only imagine, Khleo... I can only imagine. Stuff like that tends to back-fire.

Making such stuff tends to put a giant bullseye on yourself, which everyone nowadays will see and love to take pot shots at. Not one of the best ideas ever.
