Flower Gardening - Carolina loves flowers. They are so beautiful and vibrant and every flower is unique. Carolina is continually amazed that humans have the ability to grow such beautiful life forms. Carolina started gardening as soon as she was old enough to hold a trowel. She started out helping her father tend his vegetable garden, but when he noticed that she had much more of an attraction for flowers and had a good eye for complimentary colours, he dug Carolina her first flower garden and things just took off from there. Carolina’s gardens were the envy of the neighbourhood in Brazil and she hopes to rebuild that reputation in Destiny City. This will prove to be a challenge as Carolina's host family had an atrocious mess of a garden when she arrived. Carolina is not well versed in American plant-life so much of her time is spent in research and attending Garden Club meetings after school. It will be a long road, but Carolina will bring beauty to life once more.

Shopping - Carolina loves beauty, so naturally she loves making herself beautiful too. An afternoon well spent is one spent inside an air-conditioned mall with a bag of new shoes in one hand and an iced latte in the other. Every event is an occasion to buy a new outfit. Heaven forbid she be seen in public wearing the same outfit twice! Carolina is fortunate she's an only child - her parents couldn't afford her tastes otherwise!

Playing Pool - Carolina is a natural at pool, and she knows it. She loves the game, but she loves drawing a crowd even more. Unwitting victims laugh when Carolina challenges them to a match, but if you listen to her boasts, Carolina hasn’t lost yet. She claims to have never paid for her soda or fries yet, either. Carolina’s learned that a confident attitude and a little white lying can throw an opponent off balance, making victory that much easier. Although her record is far from perfect, Carolina is more than happy to let you believe it is.

Playing pool is a relaxing experience for Carolina. She can do it mindlessly, and yet she’s constantly calculating angles and trajectory in her head. It’s a form of meditation for her and if Carolina’s had a bad day, you can bet you’ll find her with a pool cue in her hand.

Carolina’s ability to mentally calculate angles has given her a certain advantage in geometry, though you’ll never find her bragging about that.

Flirting - This is truly a hobby for Carolina. She adores attention, particularly male attention. She flaunts her beauty and lays on the charms to every male specimen she encounters, attached or otherwise. She anticipates having a lot of fun with this in Destiny City. No one can resist a girl with a foreign accent, after all. Especially not one as pretty as Carolina.

Virtues:

Takes initiative -- Carolina is never one to sit back and wait for events to unfold. She always takes the first step towards any action, no matter what the nature of it. Nothing good comes from procrastinating, in fact, situations often get worse if you let things fester. If the teacher asks for a volunteer to present to the class first, Carolina's hand is up. If there's a scary cave that needs investigating, Carolina's the first in, armed with a flashlight and a large stick.

Carolina tries to inspire others to action and she knows that the best way to accomplish this is to lead by example. She may not always set the best example, but at least she sets events into motion.

Driven/Motivated -- Carolina knows what she wants and she won't stop until she has it. She has a limitless source of energy and drive, pushing her to achieve her goals. Often this manifests as the drive to get that perfect dress no matter what, but Carolina can channel her energy into more worthwhile goals, and when she does, watch out.

Charming -- Carolina comes armed with a beautiful face and a winsome smile. She's quick to hand out compliments and always has a kind word to spare. Her body language oozes self confidence and there’s always a smile in her eyes. Carolina also has an uncanny ability to remember names. These traits combined make Carolina an easy person to like. Though her charm is rather superficial, Carolina uses this ability to get what she wants from people or to gain favour from people that she believes she could manipulate and lead.

Flaws:

Arrogant -- Carolina can be rather imperious at times. She views herself as worthy of a leadership position and, as such, people should obey and follow her. Her opinion is the right opinion and her plan is the best one. This is partially due to being an only-child to doting parents. Carolina was raised as the spoiled princess of the household. She was given anything she wanted anytime she wanted it and the compliments and praises were heaped on, which lead to an inflated sense of self-worth. She doesn’t care what other people think of her because she knows that her opinion is the only one that truly counts.

Carolina’s arrogance, unfortunately, gets in the way of her being a truly effective leader. One can’t expect to lead a flock of blind sheep. Other peoples’ opinions and suggestions must be given fair consideration, even if they conflict with your own, which is something that Carolina is not always able to bring herself to do. This trait is as unlikely to bring about loyal followers as it is to foster friendship. Carolina seeks out people she can easily manipulate, but not those that she could call true friends. She cares more about her own success and happiness than that of other people.

Impulsive -- Carolina's drive and motivation can sometimes lead to rash and hasty action. When Carolina wants something done, she wants it done now, consequences be damned. She's not much of a planner. Her motto is most definitely measure once, cut twice. Carolina's emotional responses to situations are also rather impulsive. If she's unhappy about something, you'll know about it. You couldn't quite call it a temper tantrum, but there are some things our spoiled princess hasn't quite grown out of yet.

Promiscuous -- At times, Carolina takes her ability to charm others too far. She’s managed to cultivate for herself a rather nasty reputation and, unfortunately, this reputation is not entirely untrue. Carolina is a flirt and genuinely enjoys the company of males. With such a wide variety of interesting people available, particularly in this new city and country, why should she anchor herself to only one person? Carolina flits from boyfriend to boyfriend, often without a second thought. Her actions have made some girls jealous and have left some men heartbroken and bitter. Whoops!

Sailor Ceres gathers water from all nearby sources and channels the water into a ball. She throws this ball at the enemy, causing them slight damage and distraction. The size of the ball, and therefore the power of the attack, is directly proportional to the amount of water available.

Super Sailor Senshi Attack
Name: Ceres Water Bomb Ignite!
Sailor Ceres gathers a ball of water between her hands and throws this ball at the enemy, causing damage and providing a distraction. Sailor Ceres can use this ability to summon multiple small water balls, but each successive summoned ball is smaller than the last until all she can manage is a slow trickle.

Eternal Senshi Attack
Name: Ceres Eternal Water Explosion!
Sailor Ceres summons five large water balls that encircle her foe and converge, creating a large blast that causes massive destruction.

The Amazoness Quartet consisted of CereCere, PallaPalla, JunJun, and VesVes. Their attacks were derived from circus skills, with each having a specific talent. In order to remove a person's Dream Mirror, a member of the Quartet hit her Amazon Stone with a pool cue, similar to a billiard ball. The mirror was knocked out of the target the instant it made contact with them.

CereCere is the pink haired, and most mature acting member of the Quartet. She is a trapeze artist for the Circus and can manipulate flowers; she is known as the Flower Magician and is the leader of the Quartet. She has light skin and wears pink, but has a yellow ball. She is very feminine and tries to be mature compared to the others in the Quartet. Naoko Takeuchi has stated that CereCere is sexy and talks in a very aristocratic tone.

In the anime, she tends to be arrogant and haughty, and chases after people that will highlight her perceived beauty for her, such as when she chased after an artist and asked him to repaint her. She also appears extravagant and outrageous while disguised and not in her circus uniform. However, there are moments when she breaks the mature mask and plays for fun. The other Amazonesses see her as lazy, and take every opportunity to call her such. She summons only plant-based lemures, a possible nod to her Roman namesake, Ceres, a goddess of vegetation and plants.

The Planet

Ceres, formally designated 1 Ceres, is the smallest identified dwarf planet in the Solar System and the only one in the asteroid belt. It was discovered on 1 January 1801, by Giuseppe Piazzi, and for half a century it was classified as the eighth planet.

With a diameter of about 950 km, Ceres is by far the largest and most massive body in the asteroid belt, and contains almost a third (32%) of the belt's total mass. Recent observations have revealed that it is spherical, unlike the irregular shapes of smaller bodies with lower gravity. The Cererian surface is probably a mixture of water ice and various hydrated minerals such as carbonates and clays. Ceres appears to be differentiated into a rocky core and ice mantle, and may harbour an ocean of liquid water underneath its surface.

From the Earth, Ceres' apparent magnitude ranges from 6.7 to 9.3, and hence at its brightest it is still too dim to be seen with the naked eye.

The Goddess

In ancient Roman religion, Ceres was a goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships. Her cult took many forms. She was the central deity in Rome's so-called plebeian or Aventine Triad, and was paired with her daughter Proserpina in what Romans described as "the Greek rites of Ceres". She played an essential role in Roman marriage and in funeral rites. Her seven-day April festival of Cerealia included the popular Ludi Ceriales (Ceres' games). She was honoured in the May lustration of fields at the Ambarvalia festival, and at harvest-time.

Ceres is linked to pastoral, agricultural and human fertility. Her name may derive from the hypothetical Proto-Indo-European root "ker", meaning "to grow", which is also the root for the words "create" and "increase"; Roman etymologists thought her name derived from the Latin verb gerere, "to bear, bring forth, produce". Her cults were widespread throughout ancient Magna Graecia; Rome acknowledged Hanna, in Sicily, as her oldest, most authoritative cult centre. She is well-evidenced among regal Rome's neighbours, the ancient Latins, Oscans and Sabellians, less certainly among the Etruscans and Umbrians. An archaic Faliscan inscription of c.600 BC asks her to provide far (spelt wheat), a dietary staple of the Mediterranean world. Throughout the Roman era, Latin ceres was synonymous with grain and, by extension, with bread.

The Amazon Rainforest

The Amazon rainforest is a moist broadleaf forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin of South America. This basin encompasses seven million square kilometers, of which five and a half million square kilometers are covered by the rainforest. This region includes territory belonging to nine nations. The majority of the forest is contained within Brazil, with 60% of the rainforest, followed by Peru with 13%, and with minor amounts in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. States or departments in four nations bear the name Amazonas after it. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rainforests, and it comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest in the world.

Wet tropical forests are the most species-rich biome, and tropical forests in the Americas are consistently more species rich than the wet forests in Africa and Asia. As the largest tract of tropical rainforest in the Americas, the Amazonian rainforests have unparalleled biodiversity. One in ten known species in the world live in the Amazon Rainforest. This constitutes the largest collection of living plants and animal species in the world.

The region is home to about 2.5 million insect species, tens of thousands of plants, and some 2,000 birds and mammals. To date, at least 40,000 plant species, 3,000 fish, 1,294 birds, 427 mammals, 428 amphibians, and 378 reptiles have been scientifically classified in the region. One in five of all the birds in the world live in the rainforests of the Amazon. Scientists have described between 96,660 and 128,843 invertebrate species in Brazil alone.

The diversity of plant species is the highest on Earth with some experts estimating that one square kilometer may contain over 75,000 types of trees and 150,000 species of higher plants. One square kilometer of Amazon rainforest can contain about 90,790 tonnes of living plants. The average plant biomass is estimated at 356 ± 47 tonnes ha−1. To date, an estimated 438,000 species of plants of economic and social interest have been registered in the region with many more remaining to be discovered or catalogued.

The green leaf area of plants and trees in the rainforest varies by about 25% as a result of seasonal changes. Leaves expand during the dry season when sunlight is at a maximum, then undergo abscission in the cloudy wet season. These changes provide a balance of carbon between photosynthesis and respiration.

The rainforest contains several species that can pose a hazard. Among the largest predatory creatures are the Black Caiman, Jaguar and Anaconda. In the river, electric eels can produce an electric shock that can stun or kill, while Piranha are known to bite and injure humans. Various species of poison dart frogs secrete lipophilic alkaloid toxins through their flesh. There are also numerous parasites and disease vectors. Vampire bats dwell in the rainforest and can spread the rabies virus. Malaria, yellow fever and Dengue fever can also be contracted in the Amazon region.

The Amazon Basin

The Amazon Basin is the part of South America drained by the Amazon River and its tributaries. The basin is located mainly (40%) in Brazil, but also stretches into Peru and several other countries. Annual rain fall is approximately 1500–2500 mm. Day temperatures typically reach 30-35°C, while night temperatures reach 20-25°C.

The Amazon Basin is bounded by the Guiana Highlands to the north and the Brazilian Highlands to the south. The Amazon, which rises in the Andes Mountains at the west of the basin, is the second longest river in the world. It covers a distance of about 6,400 km before draining into the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon and its tributaries form the largest volume of water. The Amazon accounts for about 20% of the total water carried to the oceans by rivers.
