Dr. H. Lecter
I've only been doing Tarot for a few months now, but in my experience the cards shouldn't give you an exact time frame for death... Maybe the person giving the reading had different cards, but mine don't do that XD
When I do a reading, I ask that Hecate will contact the fates for me, and that she guide the cards to what the person the reading is for needs to know. I've gotten some good readings in this way.
Though my friend, Alan, frustrated me. I keep the cards in a way that I won't get any reversed, but when I gave him a reading I got several reversed cards. It was very frustrating for me...
I learned recently while poking around in the internet that there are several different interpretations for the cards that can be used to indicate time.
Beyond that some readers are given intuitive information or know their deck. When I read myself or others sometimes numbers and dates pop in my head, and when that's the case I've mentioned them. That said, I'm usually talking about finding a job, meeting a person, getting married, I've never talked about a date of death or even predicted a long term illness. An accident once or twice but nothing life long.
I'm curious as to why reverse cards frustrate you and why you didn't want them to show up in your readings.
To Ramona Razor: that sounds like a crap experience to start with the tarot on, and I wouldn't blame anyone for disliking something that predicts death.
My personal take on tarot is that they are messages from guides and the divine and they only tell you what they think you need to hear, not truth or the future persay, but a perspective or a thought or maybe sometimes a hint. I don't know why a reader would give your dad that reading though
