devart- This is more what he'd look like as an adult. I originally wrote this character for another rp but he never actually got played, so I've shredded him back down to candidate to see what happens. Character Name: S'in Age: 18 Sexual Orientation: Straight but not uptight Craft/Rank: Weyrbrat History: Growing up in the weyr, Salin has always been sure, if of nothing else, that his position in life was fairly secure. It seemed obvious that he'd be a dragon rider, and he was confident that he'd impress the second his foot hit the sands for the first time. So far that hasn't happened, and although he has time left, he's beginning to feel doubt, and is looking to try and secure his position in other ways. He's extremely good at being politically neutral, even invisible if he needs to, until a situation resolves, and stepping in neatly behind the winner to pat them on the back, and even better at swallowing his own opinions on the matter unless they seem to fit with the dominant majority, and he's used this ability to try and protect his place and future at the weyr while he debates a future in which he might actually -not- impress, though he's still holding out hope. One truth that some do know about him is that he does consider weyrborn candidates somewhat superior to holdborn, and therefore finds it considerably more frustrating to see them impress when he has not, though he tries to keep this opinion selective to a look of disdain. Again, why hurt his political position should one of the hold born someday rise to power above him? Description: One of the more notable traits about Salin is his somewhat unusual (but not unheard of) complexion. His skin is a darker almost milk chocolate tone, a throw back to history, and his hair is only a few shades darker, making his black eyes look somewhat more intense. It's often clear when he's thinking about something, but his faint smile and cryptic stare don't readily reveal what. He cheerfully admits to being somewhat vein. He adores wearing rich colors that emphasize his unusual skin-tone, enjoying the feeling of being exotic. A particular trait of which he's vain is his hair, which he'll continue to wear long, and tied made of braids, bound with a scarf or with leather to keep it out of the way, as long as he can possibly get away with it. He uses sweet oils and a few other herbal tricks to keep it from becoming 'aromatic' or buggy, and has even been known to wear beads in it. He's keenly aware of the cost of his vanities, and pinches and saves to get what he can for now, though mostly a the moment, it's a few scarves and ornate leather for his hair. Personality: With Salin: everything revolves around not making social or political waves, but riding the waves of others. He has no plans to lead the weyr, or even to lead a wing, but he wouldn't mind being wing second, or the power behind the throne, as it were. He's ambitious, but he'd rather not be the center of attention so much as he wants to secure himself a position that he admits, he does in fact think he deserves, as a dragon rider. Is that arrogant? Well he'll admit that yes, even with the atypes to raise the number of dragons at a hatching, yes it rather is, but doesn't -everyone-, he'll insist, have an ambition thats frankly a bit arrogant? He's rarely intentionally cruel in his social games, and so far hasn't come up against the idea that someday he may yet be caught up in something where he can't pretend to agree with the majority, or where he may even be forced to admit that his games have left him with very few true friends, so much as tactically significant acquaintances. He's -certainly- never considered that it's his own vagaries that may be the reason he's still standing and hoping to impress. Other: Although he doesn't like to openly admit interest in other professions other than dragon riding, Salin does have an guarded interest in the processes involved in making clothing. Dying and detailing especially are fascinating to him, since he reasons that if he knew how to do these things himself, he'd at least have access to some of the nicer garments out there at a significantly reduced cost. He's even more loathe to admit that, if he didn't have a dragon, he might even be content trying to learn such skills. This leads to a certain degree of fascination with others who do have these skills, hold born or not, and such individuals may even have the upper hand in getting him to warm to them as fellow candidates. Just don't ask him to admit it in front of anyone. ...yet.

-Alternate Art: - By LadyMercy - Tegaki-e-By Xaotl -Pets: -none: -Notable possessions: -none -Friends: -Foes: - -'Other' ((Acquaintances, so on)) -V'tur: Dragon Rider to Brown Iweith: Incredible looking dragon. His rider is Hold Born. I'm sure he's very skilled but his ideas about Weyr life seem a bit off. I'm not sure what his experiences were during candidacy, but he seems to have a lingering ignorance about the process, and he gives a strong impression that he disapproves of the fact that I haven't learned a craft during my candidacy. -Farellen: Fellow Candidate. Farellen is an odd duck, he seems very ordered... and very tricky.

There you are, Salin! I'm soooo happy to see you, were you waiting for your Linnaeth? Name: Linnaeth Animal: European Red-Breated Robin
There is something absolutely, utterly and entirely charming about this spritely little brown. Linnaeth is, in a word, positively cheerful -- and he will let everyone within earshot know all about it. This little brown will trill and call and sing his heart out quite sweetly whenever he's contented, and that's often enough. He'd rather be with people than anything else, and it shows! When Linnaeth is alone, he is absolutely miserable -- it's fortunate, he thinks, that he has His! That was, Linnaeth never has to be alone.
After all, that is Linnaeth's biggest fear: being alone. His rider will know all about it, from the time Linnaeth is able to hop along behind with shirttails in his mouth. It's highly unlikely His will be able to keep clothing without little dragon toothmarks in it for a good while, until this little brown is sure beyond surety that nothing could possibly happen to him and that His will be with him forever.
Surprisingly enough, Linnaeth can be rather territorial. Once he has marked a place as his own, such as his barrack or his weyr, he will defend it passionately. Only His is allowed in Linnaeth's place, and perhaps someday a weyrmate, if they suit this cheery little brown well enough. He'll participate passionately in flights, but don't expect him to chase the golds or crimsons. Linnaeth knows what he perceives as his place, and as a rather small brown, he does not believe he has the strength to make good on anything better than green. He's all right with that, though -- as long as His is! If not, then Linnaeth will do everything in his power, driving himself right to exhaustion, to please His.
Why Me?
Linnaeth is a loud, boisterous, and surprisingly territorial brown. That said, Salin possesses the qualities to balance this little brown out. You see, Salin know what he wants but he doesn’t want it all and he knows his place – at least that’s how Linnaeth sees it and that appeals greatly to this brown who wishes to make something of himself but does not feel he could be the one to take power. That lack of overbearing ambition could potentially make this team a force to be reckoned with – humble ability is, after all, almost undeniable.
Once they’ve achieved their place, be it wing second or something else, Linnaeth will be quite possessive of it. They worked hard for this and it’s what they earned and what they’re deserving of so people can back right off.
Salin is also rather social and while the brown will never be alone with His around, the social interactions that Salin participates in will feed this brown’s need for company. His, however, might have to learn to either join in or ignore or otherwise direct the brown’s loud singing – he’s not exactly quiet!---------------- Clutch: Thanks to the staff and Jet for setting up this visual chart! Ray of Sunshine Egg - Sitting in the corner of the clutch, this egg seems to be observing all of those sitting around it with either a watchful eye of delight or one of scorn. It's hard to tell as the feeling one gets from touching this shell changes quickly, though the overall sense of dedication and pride that comes with being a gold can certainly be understood. This egg is very clearly going to hatch a Gold. Gold Serlaith to Moira Fresh Dirt Egg - Directly across from the Ray of Sunshine egg rests a massively large egg, one that would be hard pressed to be mistaken for anything other than a bronze. The overall feeling from this egg is one of pure gentleness with a hint of...well, hunger. All hands as welcomed, if not encouraged, to touch this shell over and over for a feeling of reassurance and a rumble in their stomachs. Bronze Scarath to Silbakor Bared Fangs Egg - The egg seems oddly appropriate with this one. There's a sense of stubborness to the point of irritation here... and a definite MINE mentality, though over what is uncertain. Throughout the weeks, this egg has sat stubbornly upright and refused to move despite being nudged. Size indicates a blue or a green. Green Viridith to Kyros Grassy Plain Egg - The first thing you notice about this egg when you touch it is a sense of surprise. Not fear, but genuine surprise, as if the egg didn't expect you find it. There's a sense of transparency and selflessness in this one, and a quiet strength. A very intriguing little egg, its size indicates a blue or a green. Green Dynith to Optheli Loud Echo Egg - Loud and insistent sums up this one. Whomever touches it is greeted with the impression of singing and calls, perhaps the dragon is particularly sociable? Size indicates a large blue or brown. Brown Linnaeth to Salin Shirking Violet Egg - This egg sets nestled amongst its companion eggs as though it were trying to make those around it look larger and more vibrant. When touched the egg gives off a pleasantness that can certainly put a person at ease, though there is a touch of hesitation if a hand stays on the shell a bit too long. Second touches yield the same result as the first, though perhaps not as stressed. A rather small egg, this is certainly a green. Green Toulonth to Falleren Battered Wing Egg - The little dragonet within gives the impression of being mild and contemplative. There's a pleasant feeling about this one, so much so it seems to shy away from the more forceful personalities that greet it. Brown Tytoth to Auren Mellow Daisy Egg - This one... almost feels as if it hasn't quite made up its mind yet. There's no strong emotion one way or another and it's surprisingly neutral, perhaps even appraising, in its reaction to those who touch it. Could it just be a more reserved individual? Went Between Withering Leaf Egg - Touching this egg before you've touched the one to it's left or right in order will result in the feeling of complete and utter disappointment. It seems like whatever is inside absolutely abhors things that deviate from a routine and a pattern and is likely to be generally grumpy to all hands during the touching. The size of this egg indicates it could either be a large brown or a bronze. Bronze Plexith to Devlin Watching Eyes Egg - This egg is set off from the rest of its clutch, likely either rolled there by the Queen or somehow moved by its own violation. It stands upright and gives off a feeling of aloofness when touched, one that suggests the dragon inside either doesn't want company or simply doesn't need it at all. All hands are welcome, provided they aren't streaked with dirt or sand - in which case this egg is not pleased. Likely a blue or brown. Blue Lifth to Gabriel Tree Bark Egg - WHAT'S THAT!? There's a decided sense of insatiable curiosity about this one, almost as if it's greeting each and every person who touches it. Those who touch it more then once will likely realize the egg seems familiar with them. Maybe the dragonet has a good memory? Size indicates a green or a blue. Brown Violith to Sheridan Gentle Breeze Egg - A feeling of straightforwardness can be felt from this egg, along with a mixture of impatience. Each touch renders a feeling that whatever is inside would probably rather be doing something else than sitting on the sands, though there never is any cruelty behind each sensation, instead a general feeling of being bored and wanting adventure takes over. A fairly small egg in size indicates this to be a green. Crimson Luvith to Saekagi Distorted Reflection Egg - Well hello there ladies~ This egg seems to give a feeling that it likes the touch of women and women alone; in fact the more the merrier! Everyone is given a welcoming feeling though when touching this egg, as if they were being carefully guided into something. Likely a green or a blue. Blue Daroth to Nasuymi Animal Tracks Egg - This egg seems to give off an air of determination, one that doesn't exactly seem so quiet. It's a drive that pretty much encompasses the rest of the feelings that this egg may offer which is slightly troublesome. While not exactly hostile towards any it is more accepting of younger hands than older, and seems to prefer the touch of men over women. This egg is likely a large blue or a small brown. Blue Suvith to Nithan
