Little Cup Strategy Analysis
Come here and have your team strategies appraised!

I know not everyone wants to talk about their teams — especially if the team will be used in a tournament, and the goal is to win the first prize. However, I think, as a guild, we can best challenge ourselves by discussing our strategies with each other, pointing out our weakness that we might not see, and recommending some other choices to better our teams. Sure, we're making our competition more difficult, but there's hope that our competition will make us better in turn for the tournament. Besides, you don't have to reveal all your secrets.

Discuss your current team thoughts and strategies here. Also, please be respectful and provide critical and constructive advice for the people who ask for it.

Alright, here's my current notes on my team's strategy. The only thing I've really observed so far on my team are the Pokémon I want, their weaknesses, their resistances, and their immunities. I've also listed the most dangerous weakness holes the team has, and ways that I've made to counter them:

Snover
Weak: Fighting Flying Poison Rock Bug Steel Fire
Resist: Ground Water Grass Electric

Spheal
Weak: Fighting Rock Grass Electric
Resist: Water Ice

Staryu
Weak: Grass Electric
Resist: Steel Fire Water Ice

Bronzor
Weak: Ground Fire
Resist: Normal Flying Rock Steel Grass Psychic Ice Dragon
Immune: Poison [Ground with Levitate Ability]

Tentacool
Weak: Ground Electric Psychic
Resist: Fighting Poison Bug Steel Fire Water Ice

Diglett
Weak: Water Grass Ice
Resist: Poison Rock
Immune: Electric

-----

Common Team Weaknesses: Fire Fighting Electric Trap
Fire combated by Staryu and Tentacool
Fighting combated by Tentacool
Electric combated by Diglett and Snover
Trap combated by Tentacool

Because we're playing with such low statistics, the Little Cup is really designed to keep mind resistances and immunities to keep your babies healthy, then waiting for the correct time to switch in and sweep. Generally, says Smogon, Stalling Hail teams are rare to see in Little Cup, but I'm going to attempt it anyways with this team. My win condition: Keep Hail up, set up Stealth Rock and other traps if possible, then sweep when weakened. My traps of choice will most probably be Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes.

I'll have moves considered soon, but any thoughts so far?

I can't say I'm anything of an expert on this type of thing - this tournament will be my first WiFi battle - but to me, it sounds pretty good =)

I'm going to use a Snover too; it's the only pokemon I've got sorted so far. I was also going to use en electric type, mainly because its speed would make it a brilliant starter pokemon to hit first - and it's a versatile type.

I think toxic spikes is a bit of a risky move; it won't guarantee an effect on every member of the opposing team. Stealth Rock sounds good though!

@Jerzee: The only major thing I can see at the moment is you have a strong chance of being killed by Earthquake or other Ground moves with your team, and you don't really have any Pokémon resistant to that type. Ice might be another problem, but only if Ponyta dies on you. Otherwise, you have potentially wonderful type coverage and potentially speedy Pokémon to kill your opponents.

@Sunny: If you're going to put Snover in, I'd actually recommend him starting first, then switching to something else (or attacking if you feel it appropriate). That way you can activate Hail and add that residual damage to your opponent's Pokémon. An electric type will be good because of the types it can damage really well for super-effective or neutral damage, and Pokémon like Elekid can actually learn enough moves to hit all Pokémon for neutral or super-effective damage.

@Hoshi: There's a reason for the typing, and, to my knowledge, my resistances are covered.

Edit: @Rol: It might be helpful. It'll give you a Flying-type attack in case you need it. Plus, Magikarp's speed is great in LC.

I have a question ;o

Moves that inflict a set amount of damage are banned, right? I can't find it anywhere in the clauses, so I wanted to check...

Yeah. So no Dragon Rage or SonicBoom. It's not in the clauses; it's in the Rules part of the thread.

Thanks Lin, I think I'm going to stick with this team. I like these guys. =) Hopefully I can make it past the 1st 1 or 2 trainers before I'm taken down. xd
