What do you think One Piece is? The greatest treasure of Gol D. Roger, and said to be on the island of Raftel in the Grand Line, not to mention what spurred the great pirate era.
Yes, we know it's big. It's a legend. It's TREASURE!
But what IS the treasure, really? Knowing the series, I think that the One Piece isn't really a treasure of monetary value, but something personal to Gol D. Roger. Perhaps a legacy of his crew?

i believe it could be a journal of his adventures. he wanted his "heir" to find his legacy and learn how he became such a great pirate

Or possibly the island itself is the treasure? Nature is priceless, after all.

yeah, i'd guess that makes sense. or it could also be something really cheesy like the journey to get there. that would've been the greatest treasure along with friendship

I think the great treasure is the true history, that tells you how the world was like before the world government was formed.
And then I think it would start a large war against the world government with the revolutionary and some other strong pirates.

Maybe it is a piece of paper, and has "CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE FOUND ONE PIECE" written on it with no treasure found beside it.

My dad thinks that it's the Devil Fruit tree. And all the animals on the island have Devil Fruit powers.

Personally I think It is either the note comment mixed with the of The Devil Fruit Tree idea

*cough*I still think Pandaman is the One Piece.*cough*
My friends think the One Piece will simply be friendship and everyone will walk away with "one piece of mind".
Maybe something something that was dear to Roger as Luffy's hat is dear to him. There are so many possibilites.
