Kissy left Mashaka to take care of the den while she went out for an afternoon walk through the clearing in search of some much needed feminine company. Taking Mashaka into the clan was like adopting a cub. She could see that he was trying hard to be everything that a parastar should be, but he was far from perfect. Although, for a male who had once been a rogue, she supposed he wasn’t doing so bad.
Koi was proud of Kissy. She knew it wasn't easy to raise up a male to be one of the pride. Mawu had tried and eventually lost faith in the pride because of it. Koi was a traditionalist but she did not press her views upon her cubs or her grandcubs. Their choices were their choices. She had heard Kissy had brought in a male and he was to stay and decided not to interupt her right now, she'd come on her own will.

Kissy smiled with relief when she caught her grandmother’s familiar scent. With most of her sisters gone as well as her mother, Kissy was growing closer to her grandmother, although she still missed her siblings. She climbed over the roots of a large tree and smiled at her grandmother resting at the base of the trunk. Mother and granddaughter couldn’t look more different, but their disparity in rank meant nothing to Kissy. Family was more important than caste. Kissy hopped down and nuzzled her cheek in greeting. “Hi grandma! How are you today?”
koi felt the same way. Their ranks may be different but koi had made it clear that she would visit her family no matter what. Both her and liza were that way. She lifted her orange hear hearing someone approach and a smile crossed her aged muzzle upon seeing it was her granddaughter kissy. "My dear... it's been too long... how are you?' She said with a smile. She tossed the orangey yellow tuft on her head out of her eyes. "How are you?"

“Oh, you know, same old same old…” Kissy sat down beside her grandmother so they could speak more easily. Now fully grown, she looked more like Mawu than ever. Her cheery disposition had dimmed somewhat since her mother left but around her grandmother she usually perked up. “Actually, there is one difference. I chose a parastar from the male’s territory a few days ago. His name is Mashaka.”
Koi wanted to act as though she didn't know of the male. "Really? Oh sweet heart your grandfather will be so happy to hear it! Which fellow is it? Perhaps they know one another." She said, pressing a paw to her cheek. "Is he a good boy kissy-tell me he is."

Kissy smiled, a little embarrassed. “He’s bright purple… more like lavender, I suppose. A bit on the large side. He used to be a rogue before he joined the pride as a teenager. Oh, he has some white on him too, but not a lot of it. I think he’ll give me lots of colorful cubs, maybe even a few ghasts. I’ve been so good – I hope the gods will bless them.” She paused in thought, flicking her tail. “He’s a good boy. I mean, he tries to be. I think he needs some work. Did you have to train Liza when you got him?”
Koi chuckled. "Liza was raised here as a child but got led astray and became a slave in a far away land. The one day I left our lands, like I was not supposed too, and I found him. We talked a bit, as I stole him from those lands and realize he was from our lands... so I brought him home. He is the perfect male..." She paused. "I wish I could find a female mate though..."

Kissy touched her grandmother’s paw in sympathy. “I feel the same way. But there are lots of females in our clan, I’m sure you’ll find someone.” She was somewhat ashamed of Mashaka’s love for her, even though it made him easy to control. Love between the sexes was a strange concept to her. It certainly hadn’t worked for Mawu and Vestip.
“I wanted to ask you something, grandma. I… well, I think I’d like to start a family soon. I think.” She flattened her ears sadly. “I’m just afraid that my cubs won’t like it here. I just don’t know how I would cope with it if they wanted to leave…”
Koi smiled softly. "It is hard darling. Many of my cubs and grand cubs have left but... that is their choice. I will never see them again but I do not let that bring me down." She said. "Even though your mother left I know she will be happy out there...and that is how I keep happy.." She said softly. "I keep them in my heart and know that maybe someday we will meet again in another life."

Her eyes welled up with tears when Koi mentioned her mother. “I miss her every day. I hope she’s happy, too.” She remembered how upset her mother had been when Vestip left. Kissy also experienced that sadness when her sisters went away and she knew she would have done anything to escape it, so she understood why her mother had to leave. She let out a hard sigh. “But it seems so… shameful.”
Honor meant everything to Kissy. She worked hard because she wanted the gods to reward her by giving her colors in the next life, though there was more to it than just colors. She took pride in her toh and couldn’t imagine doing anything that might harm it.
Koi nodded. "It is hard my dark grandchild. Your inner beauty awaits to reveal itself in your next life and in the lives of your children. I took no shame in birthing dark cubs... Your mother took it hard but.... she shouldn't have. Everyone is born like they are for a reason. the goddess has a plan for us all... so one must always be proud."

Kissy looked into her grandmother’s wise eyes. She knew Koi meant well, and her words brought Kissy great comfort, but it was hard for her to get past her fear. Maybe if she told herself her cubs would be happy… would they be happy? One thing was certain: as long as her cubs were in her care, she would do everything in her power to give them happy lives. “Yes, you’re right. Thank you grandma.” She nuzzled Koi, grateful for her kind words.

Koi smiled sweetly. She loved her family so much and little kissy made her so proud. She pressed her muzzle to the top of Kissy head and chuckled. "Of course my darling-sweet kissy... " She said softly, her purple eyes half lidded. "No matter what be proud of who you are and what you are... and teach your cubs the same."
She lifted her head and gazed in the direction that Liza and her den was. "I should go... Liza will be worried... come see me again. okay?"

"I will grandma. As soon as my cubs are old enough, I'll bring them to see you." She smiled back. Talking with Koi always made her feel better, even when she was still uncertain. At least Koi would always be there for her when she needed her.
