I was at a friend's house tonight to watch some movies, enjoy some fondue, etc...but her other friends just really bug me. They have no, and I mean no, tact about things at all.

First, my pal Cindy had made this cake and offered it around (but didn't mention she made it to the late comers), and her friend Michelle was like "This is kinda bad" and was kind of rude about it in a "haha" way. If that makes any sense. ^^; Like rude, but acting lightly about it.

Then her other friend was vegan, so everything that revolved around food that had to be altered. I don't really care too much, but Cindy went out of her way to make a vegan chocolate fondue and a regular, then the only thing this chick does all night is complain about being hungry (and Michelle - they both just say how they are sooooo hungry. Really? They showed up at 7:30, they should have ******** ate dinner), and saying how Cindy should get vegan hotdogs. Uh, yeah okay. So she is supposed to stock her fridge with vegan s**t so you can eat the odd time you're over? ******** off.

It's always like this when we hang out. These chicks only think of themselves. Whenever we put on a movie, and get like half way through or just enough to be interested in the plot, one of them pipes up with "Oh this is depressing, can we change it?" and if you try to say no, they just protest until you give in because it's retarded. Tonight for example, we started with The Proposal aaand nobody paid any attention. Then moved on to Sunshine Cleaners, which I kinda got into when Nikita was like "This is depressing" so we put on Waiting. And I honestly don't even think she found it funny at all, even though she was griping about a comedy. She just doesn't find that stuff funny, and I get that, but Cindy always puts on the comedies that are kind of inappropriate for the prudy types. It's always what about either of those two chicks (Nikita or Michelle) want to do. They show up an hour or two late, and leave after an hour like before 10. It makes me a sourpuss for reals, I don't even know why I go. sweatdrop

Anyways I should make this more discussion-y than rant-y. xd What kind of friend etiquette do you like? How rude does it have to be before it can't be tolerated anymore?
I feel like I'm getting bitchier with them, which sucks cuz I'm not really that catty but s**t. Stop being turds. D: All they know how to do is complain and I've almost never had fun going to Cindy's while they were over too. I'm seriously thinking of not going anymore because I just can't stand the attitudes.

What do you do with people who constantly complain? Should we kick 'em to them curb? xd

When it comes to special dietary needs I think people should look after themselves. My friend Steph is allergic to wheat (and frankly a million other things food related) Instead of expecting people to accommodate her she brings her own food and looks around for something she can eat among the offerings without complaining that normal people eat wheat all the time in everything. As Steph herself would say to these people "Suck it up, Princess".

I can see how it would be even more annoying when it comes to a personal choice rather than a dietary necessity (pretentious preachy vegan vs. low sodium/fat heart smart diet for a person who had suffered an acute myocardial infarction - guess one of these people are more sympathetic?)

Unless you come over early to help prep food or paid for any of it, then you don't get a say (and especially do not get to complain) about what is there.

As for the movies... I have no idea how you guys put up with that! When we get together as a good, we have a general vote what we're going to watch, majority win. Done. Very rarely do we stop a film part way through, and only when it becomes obvious that we've lost interest in it and there is a lot of chatting going on instead.... Sometimes half of the group loses interest, but the others still want to watch... I came up with a fix for that. We always put the captions on our films now. Now no one misses anything with our constant peanut gallery background noise or secondary activity going on.

As for the things that drive me nuts...

-People who are really grumpy/resistant to socializing that day. If you're having a sullen day don't come over and kill our buzz. I find that really offensive.

-People who can't go *anywhere* without their significant other. I often just want to hang out with the core group, or the people we feel best fit in/feel most comfortable with. And sorry, sometimes I just simply hate your new boy/girl friend. Occasionally, yeah, a new person melts in perfectly into a group. Even still, always together? People are not package deals. It is especially annoying with new relationships (too much PDA is yuck!). And sometimes people act differently when around their date than if they were alone. I mean in general is safe to just assume that your bf/gf is invited, but sometimes you could get a babysitter for them and go out all by yourself like an independent person! What a novel concept!

-Mess. At least take your dishes to the sink if you are not going to actually help tidy up the crap left around

@ the mess

I've been lucky (for the most part), even when I have messy friends, I have more not-messy, and really helpful friends to make-up for it.

ex: My baking days. It's rare that I'm left to clean up all by myself.
I mean, one time *I* had to leave (last-minute family thing, suddenly means I need to ditch my friends gonk I felt so bad for that), and I said 'Don't worry about it, just dump the dishes in the sink and I'll take care of the rest!'

I come back to half the dishes cleaned, and the counters and table wiped down (thanks to Isabelle & our friend Lillian), and garbage in the garbage - I was seriously stunned! I was dreading going next door to have to do all that, and here it is - mostly done for me! eek I was so happy! rofl

Anyways yeah, I haven't had to put up with that kind of 'friend' much - I've come to terms with the fact that I can be a b***h - and you know what? It comes in handy sometimes!
'Look! I made/brought/bought the food - and even made sure there was some food you could eat! I respect your decision - but I"m not going to stock vegetarian food that I'm not going to eat, in my fridge, because you might come over at some point. Why not bring some with you? Or, you know, say thank-you for what I *have* done, instead of complaining?'

Mind you - that would only be after some major pent-up rage. It'd start with 'Hey, cool it!' or 'Hey! That's not cool!' or 'Suck it up, princess'. rolleyes

Seriously - some people can be so inconsiderate! confused

I love your get-togethers Isa!! I Miss them! gonk heart

I don't even know how to begin feeding a vegan. I get vegetarians, no meat but dairy is okay. But a vegan is fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, and grains only, right? "Here's your raw veggie tray sans dip. Enjoy, I guess." Considering everyone has various dietary needs, I cannot accommodate everyone. A vegan visiting with it's limited and limiting dieting would conflict badly if I also has Steph over who is allergic to wheat (the most common grain which is practically in everything, seriously) and most nuts, but no problems with most meats or dairy.

And then we are not even bringing TASTE into play. Like I flippin' hate seafood. I won't eat it (I can't even do it to be polite), but I don't complain if it is the only thing offered. That's my problem, and means I made the choice to go hungry.

If we threw a party for 10 people, there is no way you could make everyone happy.

THIS. I also just miss YOU PEOPLE. (Isa/Naito)

I think we should go on a big camping excursion this summer. Isa+1, Me, Zath, Kninja, Naito, and whoever else we can drag out that won't blow our minds. It'll be like old times, and we all kinda wanna go camping. (Except maybe Naito. <_<)

BTW, Zath, vegan is just food with no animal byproducts. So no eggs, milk, or anything else remotely connected with animals. It's actually pretty easy to cook for a vegan, you just have to focus on thickeners that sometimes have animal bone byproducts to help thicken. (Gelatin, iirc) Curries to cookies, easily done.

I don't really wanna answer the OP, just because I used to ALMOST be one of those guys. The buzzkill. Not that I'd be having a bad day, but things in high school were a little... dramarific. And I just made things less fun, and I knows it. <_< BUT I AIN'T DOES THAT NO MORE.

I am aware it means no animal by products... however I completely disagree that it is 'easy' XD Too simple and not enough variety. And if it is bland, you don't have many options to punch it up (herbs and spices can only do so much). The planning part of food prep would become very involved as you attempt to eat the same foods prepped pretty much the same ways all the time -- and it completely leaves out so many foods and ethnic foods. Creole cooking? Asian cuisine? European cuisine? Yeah, you're missing out if you attempt to eat a pizza with no cheese.

But I also have very strong personal opinions regarding vegans. I believe they are wrong for several reasons I won't bother discussing here. Vegetarians though, we're cool.

Bah the siamese twin couple. mad I have one like that, but only...they fight over everything almost. We had a game night once, and they are intensely competitive with each other to the point of getting angry and pissed off. And there was the rest of us going "o___O" and trying to make it more light-hearted, haha.

I totally get ya on the buzzkill. I actually respect the people that call and say "Sorry I can't make it, just not feeling too good" since at least it's honest. xd

What bugs me the most about the vegan girl is just that. She is always late, thus never helps make the food, then just goes on and on about "Ohh I can't eat that". I thought the hostess was amazing for dealing with that s**t. It's pretty nice to provide both options - I know I'm too cheap to do that. xd And she was telling me how hard it was to find completely vegan chocolate too. I didn't even want to ask how much it was. ^^;

Hehe, not gonna lie - at your baking parties, we clean partly so that we can get in there and bake too. xd Tight spaces require immense tidying skills! Plus piles and piles bug me now that I do my own dishes. @___@ Speaking of which...I have a huge pile. D:

I looooved when you brought snacks over too! heart Anytime people help supply s**t is a good night for me, haha. Yeah I miss them too! I just sit at home with library movies alone now, lol. I did get a PS2 recently so I'll be rocking that when Katamari arrives. cool

You were a little bit the buzzkill, but never the kind of whiny beeeotch to those girls' levels, lol. But we could snap you out of it ... or at least get a good tease. wink

I was thinking a two day excursion up the island. Remember, I have my giant boat of a car, 4 passengers + everything you'd need to bring. Zath doesn't wanna go, so, you+1, Naito, and Kninja would fill the car. I can get one tent, four person size... I'm sure Kninja could get one aswell. =O

I don't really have much of a plus one since Will's in Kitimat, but maybe a cool coworker? Dunno what she'd have off, but the plan would have to airTIIIIIIIIIIIGHT (but mostly for me, lol). xp

We could force Zath to come. I just kept saying you + 1 for Will. (Some people have twitches about RL names, so, I try to avoid them here)

I know, I'll tie up Zath and put her in my trunk. o.o

So, wait... Animal by products are not cool for vegans? Does that mean animal straight and animal gay products are? Vegans confuse me and I generally don't trust them. I think our safest course of action is to kill and eat them all before they kill and eat us first.
Emma, I think you should bring a heavy lock or rock to your friend's parties from now on. Then, when other guests start bitching out, you find a quiet corner and slip off one of your socks. Then you figure out a solution involving the lock, the sock, and the back of their skull, like a rhyming McGyver 3nodding
