Our first Pokemon of the Week is Rattata, while it may be small it does have the power to take out a lvl100 uber while being only lvl 1 itself. Want to know the secret behind this? Well here's why Rattata is our first PotW.

Have you ever heard of a F.E.A.R. Rattata? Well if not this is what it means

F.E.A.R. generally stands for:

* Focus Sash
* Endeavor
* (Quick) Attack (other moves that work are Sucker Punch, and Pursuit)
* Rattata

F.E.A.R. is also known as ******** Evil a** Rodent lol

How to use F.E.A.R.

After one of the player's Pokémon faints, the F.E.A.R. Pokémon can be sent out against an opponent's Pokémon with (preferably) full HP. During the first turn, the F.E.A.R. Pokémon will use Endeavor, and the opponent will most likely use an offensive attack to try to defeat the F.E.A.R. Pokémon (assuming, of course, that the opponent isn't aware of this strategy). The F.E.A.R. Pokémon would indeed faint, if it were not holding the Focus Sash, which allows the user to hold on to 1 HP after a hit which would otherwise knock it out from max-HP. When the Pokémon uses Endeavor, the HP of the opponent's Pokémon will equal the HP of its own (which is now, assuming Focus Sash triggered, equal to 1). During the following turn, the F.E.A.R. Pokémon can use Quick Attack to wipe out the remaining 1 HP of the opponent's Pokémon. Focus Sash will not work twice, so a Pokémon can only use this strategy once.

So remember this, don't underestimate the little guys cause they might just take you out.

Other Facts

Rattata is a Normal-type Pokémon.

It evolves into Raticate starting at level 20.

Physiology

Rattata is a small, but unspecialized rodent. Its most notable feature is its large teeth. Like most rodents their teeth grow continuously throughout its life, and must be constantly worn down by gnawing. It has long whiskers and a long, slightly curled tail. Rattata has purple fur on its back, and cream colored fur on its stomach. This coloration (dark on top, light on bottom) is a common protective mechanism for many small animals.
Gender differences

Females have shorter whiskers and a lighter fur color of fur.
Special abilities

Rattata have very basic survival needs, permitting them to thrive in nearly any environment. Because they reproduce so quickly, a pair of Rattata can quickly colonize an area. Rattata are also very quick, and their teeth grow constantly.
Behavior

Rattata have a fast metabolism. As a result, it spends most of its fast-paced life looking for food. Thanks to their sharp fangs, they are able to eat nearly anything. However, because they constantly need to chew on hard material to keep their teeth at a manageable length, it is hard to tell if they are actually eating something, or merely gnawing on it. When they are threatened, Rattata can deliver a powerful bite. Cautious to the extreme, its hardy vitality lets it live in any kind of enviornment. They are a common sight in many places, and can become a nuisance due to their rapid reproductive rate. It is said that for every one Rattata, forty other are hidden somewhere. Most young Trainers will train Rattata due to their easy accessibility.

Habitat
Grassland Pokémon

Rattata naturally live in plains and savannas. However, they are found in most areas due to their ability to survive nearly any environment. They are very common in Kanto, Johto and Sinnoh.

Diet

Rattata are not picky when it comes to food, and will eat nearly anything edible. However, they're sometimes found in possession of the Chilan Berry.

In the first episode of the anime series, Ash's Pokédex also states that Rattata "likes cheese, nuts, fruit and berries... and will steal food from stupid travelers."

Another thing I would like to add about Rattata, is that during the early stages of the main game, Rattata, and later on, Raticate, they actually are a very powerful pokemon with a useful moveset, and only one weakness inherent to Normal type pokemon, being the Fighting type, striking for 2x damage.

Most effective moves;
Quick Attack: Learned at level 4, this move will always allow a first hit, unless both pokemon use first strike moves, then the pokemon's speed will determine who goes first. Since Rattata is quite speedy, he will usually go first.
Bite: Learned at level 10, this attack has a decent attack power, but also has a side effect of making the target flinch. Starting from the original Gold and Silver versions, Bite's element has changed from Normal to Dark type, which gives the little rat a fighting chance against Psychics and Ghosts.
Super Fang: Learned at level 28, this attack will ALWAYS reduce the target's current HP to half it's current value. Very useful against targets that have high physical defense or a resistance to Normal element attacks.
Endeavor: When paired with a Focus Sash, can make a dire situation must more manageable, but only if your Rattata had full HP when it was first attacked. This attack, as LF stated earlier matches your opponent's HP to your own, and can bring down even the heartiest of stalling walls.

Rattata can also learn a good variety of TM's, giving it some versatility against other pokemon types.

This little guy is usually one of my staple attackers during the main game, due to his versatile nature, high speed, and decent attack power. He may seem weak when you battle trainers that use him, but when used on your own team, the little rat can really show his true power.
