I was listening the the song "Every Breath You Take" by The Police, but this was the first time I ACTUALLY listened to it. "Every breath you take and every move you make, every bond you break, every step you take, I'll be watching you..." At first, I thought, "This is a song about a stalker! It's not a good love song. How can people confuse this with love?"
Then I thought about Twilight.
Of course, lots of people who do read Twilight confuse the idea of love and stalkers, so if they were to listen to the song, would they think that the song's foolishly about love, just like the book? And if they don't, then how would they react to being told that Twilight is the same thing?
And I also have to ask, is there anything else in the media which equates stalking with love that you have found? These are all just questions I felt like asking the guild.
(Plus I'm not too sure whether this should be in the chatterbox section or not. Help me out crew?)
EDIT: This topic was posted twice, my fault. I clicked "Resend" by mistake. Well, I didn't know I shouldn't click "Resend" and instead "Cancel". Well, now I know, so sorry for that.

Its not a problem, I deleted the extra thread. I think its okay out here in the main forum, since you made the post related to Twilight in a way.

Yeah, one of my friends always referred to Every Breath You Take as "The Stalker Song". Hah.
Sort of off topic: have you ever notice that The Police always repeat things in their songs OVER AND OVER AND OVER?
"Sending out an S.O.S.... Sending out an S.O.S.... Sending out an S.O.S.... Sending out an S.O.S.... Sending out an S.O.S.... Sending out an S.O.S.... Sending out an S.O.S.... Sending out an S.O.S...."
"I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing, I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing, I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing, I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing, I can't, I can't, I can't stand CAN'T STAND LOSING YOU!"
"Don't stand, don't stand so, don't stand so close to me. Don't stand, don't stand so, don't stand so close to me."
*Those might not be entirely correct because I haven't listened to The Police in a really long time.

Wait...the Police sing those songs? :O I love those songs, but I never really pay much attention to who sings them... By the way....who are the Police? sweatdrop

This reminds me of a picture I saved from Facebook(?) a while ago, which I titled "scary." It read: Quote: No matter how many times I get hurt because of you, I won't leave you. Because even if I have a hundred reasons to leave you, I'll look for that one reason to fight for you. That was when I spiraled into depression and realized the world is a stupid, stupid, terrible place. But I got better.

I think the fact that it's about stalking is kind of the point of the song.

@ CWnerd12: Exactly my point. I have heard people think of this song as a love song, when after I heard it, all I can think of is creepy stalker "love". The type that made Twilight so popular. I'd never look at those songs the same way again.

Sauce Control Sting, I don't care if you write stalker songs. *cheers* If this was facebook, I would like this post. Also: "Roxanne, you don't have to put on a red light... put on a red light... put on a red light... put on a red light... put on a red light... put on a red light..."

I mean, I think it's supposed to be creepy. XD I could make a loooong list of "romantic" songs that are really about stalking.

CWnerd12 I mean, I think it's supposed to be creepy. XD I could make a loooong list of "romantic" songs that are really about stalking. Oh. Anyway, that is kind of freaky. Then again, most stalker type songs have that same "loving" tone, maybe something like "I'll do anything to be near you forever," rather than singing it directly to the person, it'd be more like "I'm not going to approach you, so I'll watch you from afar forever, and hopefully you'll fall in love with me." That's what I tend to think about when I hear songs like that.
