I just picked up the oboe yesterday, and I feel like a duck. I'm proud I can make a sound but I'm not sure if my embouchure is correct. Any tips will Help. I'm switch from flute to oboe.

You'll sound like a duck for awhile, don't worry about it for now. xd
As for embouchure, I've never really had it explained to me, so I don't know how to explain it myself...just make sure that both your top and bottom lips are over your teeth and that the entire reed isn't in your mouth, or anything.
Oh, and you should check out the double reed subforum! =D

anyone playing oboe will sound like a duck at first, and you will for a while. but make sure you keep even air (you probably know this from flute) and dont let insults get to you wink

I've been playing the oboe about 6 months now and trust me you will sound like a duck at first I should know XD Make sure your umm embochure(? did I spell that right? ambochure?) well anyways make sure that thing is tight around about the middle of your reed. Pull the reed out for lowering a note and push it in for higher. Anything else just ask me I'm glad to help biggrin I'm already able to play grade 5-6 music after only 6 months and to tell the truth I'm not too bad smile

It might just be my reeds, but when I play around the middle of the reed, it sounds a bit tinny. I usually play closer to the tip. And keep in mind that the different length of reed in your mouth can help get notes out, but it also affects tuning a bit badly. Lower notes are usually flat, and the farther the reed is out of your mouth, the more flat you'll sound. The opposite's the same, too.

Meh, yeah, it happens. You'll sound like a duck at first. I switched from flute to oboe too. I'll be playing when it's concert band season. My instructor told me that you need to keep your embouchoure tight and towards the end of the reed. Don't have a lot in your mouth because it sounds bad. Believe me. l: Another thing is your breath support. You want to breathe from your diaphragm. My instructor told me to take deep breaths and just watch my stomach expand at first. /: He was a double reed specialist. He was a creeper though. O.O;; I still sound pretty bad but yeah. I'll worry about that later around concert season. l; It helps if you have a tuner though because you want to tune yourself before you start playing music because if you have muscle memory of where your lips go, then it helps once you play hard music. (Believe me, it does!) That's all I really know. If I remember anymore at concert band time, I'll come back and post more but right now, I'm stuck in marching band of my freshman year so I'm kinda nervous about that. /: We're in the same boat though so...good luck! (:

Oboe is my main instrument, and the one I learned first. I play flute in marching season. Oboe is really hard, and you might sound like a duck, but it gets easier if you play it more and play harder and faster music. Work on your fingerings often, work on your breathing also. Trust me, the longer you play it, the easier it gets.
