Character Name: Ciril Age: 20 Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft/Rank: Candidate (No Craft rank)
Description: Ciril is a very handsome young man, no doubt about that. His auburn hair looks almost copper in the right light and is set off beautifully by a pair of dark blue eyes. While he’s naturally on the paler side, a Turn of working under the sun has turned his skin a nice tan color, as well as giving him a good layer of muscle. Still, there’s something almost… gangly about him, as though he hasn’t finished growing into his legs and arms yet.
It doesn’t help that he adores dressing up. While he’s generally fairly modest about such things, he likes fine clothes, complete with frills and cravats and all sorts of other nonsense. Even his everyday clothes tend to have a bit of decoration sewed in here and there. Lucky for him that he lives in a Weyr overrun by tailors and weavers.
Personality: Noble. Honest. Very well-educated. Brave. A little snotty. And a bit of a d**k, even though he definitely tries not to be. He was raised to be a true gentleman, complete with a good education and absolutely no expectations to do absolutely anything with it. He’s quite honorable. Almost painfully so, actually… you know that kid who will always let the teacher know you’ve been running around without a hallpass? That’s him. He knows that he will be unpopular for enforcing such petty rules (and, by Faranth, he would love to be loved), but he also knows (or rather, thinks) that these rules are important and therefore must be enforced. Why else would they be there if they weren’t important? Naturally, he becomes a little bit more lax when it comes to applying the aforementioned rules to himself…
A similar line of logic turns him towards traditionalism; if something has lasted hundreds of years, why shouldn’t it work now? A thousand dead people can’t be wrong, right? This particular dogma has gotten him in trouble with females on fighting dragons. He does not see himself as sexist. Of course not! He has only the highest respect for women! And that is exactly why he vaguely disapproves of females on fighting dragons. He simply feels it’s unfair to women, who surely feel out of place in such burly conditions. In Terran terms, it’s best to think of Ciril as a little… Victorian in his morals. Still, he can write some fine poetry.
He expects people to see things his way simply because that’s the way he sees them. Growing up, this was exactly what happened; most people just agreed with him. Disagreement tends to confuse him and maybe hurt his feelings just a little. This confusion only turns into anger when they repeatedly pester him about the same issue again and again, as if they hope that his answer would somehow change if only he’s bothered enough.
He’s a little uneasy among his fellow Candidates, though; he’s urbane and polite to everyone, but he tends to feel a little… left out, socially. When he was growing up, he just ordered people around. And that hardly qualifies as a conversation. He tends to be rather serious and staid; at all times, he is determined to be dignified. He does have a more playful side, but it takes a little bit of effort to get it out of him. As one of the older Candidates, he feels like he has an image to uphold, one that apparently includes a stick up some orifice.
Still… he’s a good person, who tries to do his best to make the world a better place. He’s very kind and always ready to listen to someone else’s woes. Loyalty is something he prizes above all else; even if he disagrees with a friend, he is prepared to defend them to the death. If you’re stuck somewhere, Ciril will come to the rescue (even if he disagrees with you over something). He lives for playing the part of the brave hero, although he’ll give you a very stern lecture after you’ve been saved.

Ciril's History
Unlike many of the other Candidates, Ciril is not a weyrbrat. In fact, he had never even been near a Weyr until relatively recently in his life. He is the third son of a minor Lord Holder. All of his childhood, Ciril had hoped to inherit the Hold and did his best to learn how to manage such things. It seemed a great adventure at first! Being in charge was especially appealing to an ambitious child. Also, being able to stay up as long as he wanted was fairly awesome to his seven-turn-old mind. And eat as much candy as he wanted. And all that fun childhood stuff. But, by the time he was ten, he realized the obvious; baring a series of unlikely accidents, he was very unlikely to inherit. After all, he had two older brothers.
Not only that, but he also had several male cousins, who were more likely to inherit the even smaller cotholds. In fact, he’d be lucky to get as much as a mark once his parents died or retired! This did not sit well with him, but what else could he do? The idea of becoming a dragonrider never really occurred to him, since Searches on the minor Hold were rare. His parents certainly never brought up the idea as they did not slave----or order someone else to slave----over their son just so he could become beholden to some beast!
But, then it happened. Using the ol’ Sour Grapes method of dealing with disappointment, Ciril realized how boring it would be to be in charge of any sort of Hold. It wasn’t all fun and games. His dad was always working late; he didn’t enjoy being able to stay up as long as he wanted! And he was up early too, so that sort of sucked. Slowly, Ciril’s mind turned towards dragons… after all, his parents certainly disliked the beasts and Ciril was entering the age where defying parents was totally awesome. Besides, what small child doesn’t like the idea of giant fire-breathing creatures that save the world?
He was finally selected by a Searchrider when he was 19. Malvren Weyr has been a huge shock to him, what with the somewhat loose attitude towards sexuality and the lack of family structure that he grew up with. But, the dragons… he loved the dragons… still does, in fact, despite his failure to Impress.
Most recently, he’s become worried about what he’ll do if he doesn’t Impress at all. The idea of going home just doesn’t appeal to him.
Ciril likes to think that his fondness of fine clothes is a secret. It's not. Not at all. Pretty much everyone knows he's a bit of a dandy, especially if your character is a weaver or a tailor. There's a decent chance that he's approached your tailor/weaver character in the past, asking for something to be mended. He pays well, naturally, since he continues to get a decent allowance from his family.
His worry over not Impressing is also well-known among the Candidates. Although he hasn't really voiced his concerns yet, Ciril simply isn't good at keeping his emotions to himself.
