Okay, I'm an American raised in the backwoods. I was taught Christianity and good morals by my dad and various other 'mothers' I've had; good morals being believe in God and Jesus, have faith in them, and other common-sense things. I have a hint of northern country accent, and know only little of what the world has in store for me. Growing up I picked up Paganism as a religious practice, [paganism being an umbrella term for a wide variety of non-christian religion] and my parents don't know. Skipping the long life story, my heritage is Irish and Scandinavian, though since I've been deployed, my Irish heritage is popping out more and more. Not that I'm saying anything about the diet, but I can't have a dinner without potatoes! Potatoes or a mix of that and sauerkraut. I've been listening to Irish music lately and have a strange interest to learn the language and visit Ireland. I'm stubborn as hell, and as lucky as a spring hare! I hang out with mostly hispanics. The question is; Am I reverting to my Irish heritage? My great grandpa is from Ireland and taught my grandpa. My dad was taught as well, but never really taught me anything but his drinking habits. Or is this because I hang out with a group with a rich culture, that, subconsciously, I want to adopt the Irish culture more in depth since I have that ancestry? Or do those traits or mannerisms, curiosity or what ever you call them just come naturally or gene related? i know the description of this query might not make sense, but I don't know how to word it...

I am Irish. I have a very typical Irish/European build. (Pale and curvy) but I can say that I don't eat potatoes at every meal, don't even like sauerkraut and don't do many things "Irish". I have wanted to go to Ireland since I was like 5 but that's because I knew that's where the fae started or well the stories originated from. I'll go through my heritage first so it makes sense lol.
Ok so I live in Canada and my main background is Irish and Welsh. I've been reading and studying about the fae and different gods, deity's and folklore/mythology since I was 3 years old. My dad used to read all these stories and creatures to me. My dad is atheist and my mom is christian (kind of). I am pagan/wicca. I always sort of fit into the celtic pagan beliefs more than anything else, I always found celtic folklore more interesting than anything else but I've found myself a coven and I practice wicca. I'm 22 by the way so I've been studying for about 20 years on these things. Did you know that Ireland is also where the largest werewolf colony was until they were chased out (don't remember why) and now the largest werewolf colony is located in Canada.
It sounds to me like you're falling into that catagory that many Irish decendants fall into. The taste for certain foods isn't genetic (but I do love myself a good Yorkshire pudding dinner). Be careful that you aren't doing things or liking things just because it's Irish and you are trying to find your connection to your Irish background. you can't adopt certain mannerisms and tastes genetically, you can get these from being surrounded by them on a regular basis though.
My little brother is one of those people who thinks our heritage is so strong and he does so many ridiculous things because it's Irish. For example; st. Patty's day. My brother celebrates that and makes a big deal about him being Irish and it being more important to him...he didn't even know what st. patty's day was about. (for any who doesn't know it was when st. Patrick came to Ireland and chased out the snakes and said that god gave him the power to chase those snakes out and spread the catholic religion). My brother is atheist...I think and when I told him that was what that day was about he was appalled. (My brother is very close minded). He also uses the Irish Springs body wash....none of us like the smell but he says it's Irish so he has to use it. There's finding your roots and being connected to your roots and then there's ignorant connections to roots because it's cool. My little brother falls into that catagory of it's cool so I like it......

Thank you for the clarification, Fareru~ ^^ Rest assured this Irish kick isn't because it's 'cool' or that I have to because it's a heritage thing. It just happened recently, [and I'm still in the development stages of my life!] Being deployed in a desolate waste land, for some reason, changes you, though mine is in a positive way. Of course to get to this place we stopped in Ireland for an hour of rest. The connection to the place was strong, you could feel a certain magic in the air! There were hills of green that stretched so far. The sky was gray since it was fall, but it was still an enchanting day none-the-less even though we weren't allowed to step foot out the terminal... Though after,[sorry for the sudden skip. ^^;] I just can't stop eating potatoes or studying the culture. Now here I am asking what this sudden interest is! I have other family lines as far as a Scandinavian/ German heritage, though my heart is towards this section of culture more than the other beautiful bloodlines. The werewolf info was interesting too! O.o; I didn't know there were many werewolves in Ireland back in the day! Though Canada is big, so there's bound to be many there. Have you seen any of them in your community? It just confused me was all. ^^; I should have been adopting hispanic mannerisms by now, since those are the friends I hang around mostly and they teach me everything! But thanks again~ <3 Now I know it must just be a faze, or trying to find who I am in this world.

Not necessarily. I'm sorry if I came across as rude it's not what I meant to. It's very possible that the interest has been peaked inside you or the draw to the natural magic has grabbed hold of you. I didn't know you had visited Ireland, was it beautiful? There is nothing wrong with being interested in Ireland or wanting to learn everything you can about it.

I fall into the category of German/Hungarian. My great grandparents came in through Elise Island when they were children with their mother and fathers. We've always held onto our heritage when it comes to food, and other such traditions. My great grandparents still speak a little bit of German, but I only speak little bits. I lived in Germany recently for 6 years and picked up just enough of the language to get by. I hate beer by the way, which baffles my parents who are avid beer drinkers. I prefer a good brandy. I guess I take after my great grandpa who also enjoys a good Brandy before dinner. I have brown hair, olive green and brown eyes, stocky/curvy build and pale skin. I have a quick temper, but am mostly pretty laid back and easy to get along with.

I am true Hybridian. A mix of German, Irish, Native American, and African American [ far as i know, thats it ]. Both sides of my family have Native American, and Ive been trying to track down the tribes they come from. My grandmother on my mother side told me she is german/native american. All my bloodlines constantly show up at random times, which doesnt help the fact that Im gemini.

I have what is known as the gypsy bloodline meaning my blood consists of Eastern European decent. I am mostly German and Irish with a little bit of other bloodlines these include Cherokee, and Iranian mixed in. You wanting to reach out towards you Irish heritage is natural. I embrace mine by listening to Irish music, learning some of the language, and I love the fae! I also have some of the characteristics you describe for yourself. Don't be afraid to go after who you truly are...you have the choice to believe in or do whatever you like.

I'm pure celtic. English and Irish on one side, Scottish and English on the other. From memory there's a splashing of Welsh in there somewhere to.
I personally find I have a deep connection with Ireland. When i hear the music i want to dance, I adore their dancing, their folklore and i want nothing more than to go there and live amongst the rolling green hills. I also adore the language and the accent, to the point of giddiness if i hear someone speaking with it. XD
This sort of reminds me of a concept that is being toyed with. Gene Memory. It basically suggests that you genes remember things from those who passed them down to you. It could be that you long for those things because they are (literally) in your blood.
In the end you really ought to just do what feels right for you ^^

I'm just Native American, Jewish and Black... I have native american ancestry on both my mother and father's side, and are very dominating in my appearance and bodily shape. Short, medium warm complexion, and curvy (pear-shape). I know both tribes and their history, maternal is Navajo and paternal is Blackfeet/Hopi. On my mother's side, which I hold accountable for the most of mu ancestral knowledge is because my mother. I'm very well versed in my people culture and history, and was always raised to love other people's backgrounds and cultures for their diverse beauty.
However, I love the Celtic and Gaelic culture and history because of the fae because I grew hearing the stories and fairy tales, alongside Native American tales and folklore.
I have such a Jewish nose heart
