Given that Meyer herself is Mormon I'm not surprised at all that Twilight would have Mormon influences. It is actually quite common for an author to trickle their personal beliefs into their work and if done properly it can be very effective. J.R Tolkien was a Catholic and the Lord Of The Rings trilogy has extreme Catholicism influence.
