A friend of mine wore a T-shirt bearing the image of Emmett from Twilight (anyone else think this boy looks like Gregory Boil from Harry Potter?) and I refused to hug her while she was wearing it. This is highly unusual since we hug, kiss, and...do other things to each other on a regular basis. Very heavy with the gestures of affection are we!
Was I being too harsh in my stance to withdraw physical affection from her until she either removed the shirt or turned it inside out or...or something!
I really didn't want to be seen hugging someone who was wearing one of those things though. Didn't feel like doing it, with that troll looking right at my chest either....ugh!
Was I too mean?
Interesting Note: A lot of my friends who are Furries (and anyone who has a problem with that can go ******** themselves for all I care, because I've heard it all before and I find the typical derogatory comments made in regards to this particular Social Community belong in the same repertoire as the Teenage Twilight Fanatic Girls) seems to like Twilight and are "Team Jacob". I wonder if that means anything....

It's really just a book, and a T-shirt with someone's face on it. Wouldn't stop me from hugging my friends. Would you still hug her if she was wearing a Miley Cyrus shirt?

Personally I have a rule of thumb when it comes to having friends who do not like or dislike the same things that I do; so long as they are not preaching, trying to wedge it down my throat, or attempting to force me into liking whatever it is then I do not care.
You should not push your friends away from not sharing your views. It's unhealthy to only want to be around people who agree with each and every thing you hate or like in my opinion. Nobody challenges you, no other views are scenarios are brought into the circle besides your own.
I think your actions in this case were rather inappropriate considering this friend meant no harm. Think of it from her point of view; if YOU were wearing a shirt with something you liked printed on it and one of your friends refused to even hug you unless you turned it inside out wouldn't it hurt you that they were being so inconsiderate towards your preferences?

I know its wrong to push her away and such...
but that's fairly normal to not want to hug her or anything.

Just tell you her feel uncomfortable with the Twilight stuff, but try to avoid making it seem like a personal attack.

Meh. It's just a shirt.
Just yesterday, actually, my Twilight friend wore a New Moon shirt and I joked with her that the shirt kept distracting me(especially Bella-sue's listless stare of no emotion-I swear it was looking right at me...)
But I still woulda hugged her, if it came up. It's not that big a deal to me. Hell, I have a cup from the movie theater with the same picture on it that I drew all over with a sharpie.
When it comes to my friends who like Twilight, we're all pretty good sports about it and can generally hold a conversation about it without getting TOO heated, and we never insult each other for it. We often tease each other about it, but never insult.
Though there was an incident when we were arguing about the whole romance issue and the real character of Edward, whether or not he was a stalker or just caring. It got pretty involved.
But we're a pretty peaceful bunch. ^^

Hmmm...it's a tough situation, really. I'd be pissed if one of my friends went so far as to wear one of those ugly shirts...
I think that it's okay to say that in a joking manner, because friends pay attention to jokes, even. But that isn't really something to push too far and be insistent about. I love hugging my friends, and I would regret it if I were nasty to a friend over something stupid like Twilight.
On the other hand, if it makes you feel better, I congratulate you for sticking up for your sanity and your dignity. It's great to make sure everyone realizes just how ridiculous this idiotic series is. Just be sure to keep your friends close, although I bet everything will be just fine anyways. Friends don't let Twilight come between them.

I'd like to add something, if I may?
While I do agree with not hugging her being a bad reaction to an equally bad shirt, from what I've seen around me, this is the first time most of us have dealt with something so repulsive we can't stomach the ads. You should definitely talk to her. And it may come off as an attack on a personal level, no matter how you word it. I suggest that you be open and calm about the situation. And it doesn't hurt to mention that the shirt probably creeps you out. I tend to think honesty is the best policy, especially coupled with soft tones and heartfelt words. Keep in mind though, sometimes it just won't work.
Play it careful and good luck. Don't let her forget that you're still friends and that you still care about her.

You were being a bit harsh, but I can see why you didn't want to. Just as long as she's not shoving it in your face, and as long as she doesn't wear something like that all the time.
