Calla had spent the entire winter accusing him of being a combination of lazy and abyss knew what else. Normally that wouldn't have bothered him since the woman had taken to chewing on his reputation and ego for ages but the sudden shift in the woman's temper toward him had made him wary and Ana refused to say if she had a hand in that shift. So Alister had stepped back, had actually attempted doing paperwork and had nearly ripped out his hair. Two weeks of paperwork straight and he was convinced he was going mad. So he'd done the only logical thing he could think of. Well the only logical thing he could think of short of setting the twins loose on the apprentices. He'd invited the apprentices and their patrons to a bit of...training. An invitation of this sort, from the Captain generally meant they had no choice. It was either they came or he would personally see to it that Twilight had a few new chew toys.

The invitation had been sent out a little over a week ago and by now those it had been sent to would be aware of what was required of them. Which was why he was perched on his bonded's back, rifle slung over his shoulder. None of the privates or apprentices had arrived. But Alister would give them the benefit of the doubt. The older privates would have enough presence of mind to know that it was better to arrive on time and prepared rather than risk having the temperamental black wolf hauling them out and into the cold. Speaking of the wolf. A brief glance down at the oddly silent, oddly still alpha, he paused in his survey of the empty training grounds to run a gloved hand between Twilight's ears. You're oddly silent this morning.

The air was cold, no doubt doubly so to her bonded but the man didn't even seem to notice the ice on the ground or the fact that the sun hadn't even risen as yet. Neither of those things would have bothered her on any other morning but this morning. This morning however, she wasn't exactly in the mood to stand out here and wait for a bunch of delinquents to arrive. She'd been there when Alister had taken it upon himself to write those letters and send them out. She had detailed when and where the privates were to meet them. After all, she was partially the only reason why Alister had been promoted at all. Growling darkly at the slight intrusion and question, she blocked the man out. Twilight was in anything but a good mood, which meant there would be hell to pay for these privates if they didn't get here within the next ten minutes. Screw ten minutes she was giving them five. Was she irate? Of course not. She was cold. And not in the physical sense either. The normally calm alpha was bristling under her rider and there would be hell to pay for those who decided that either she or bonded didn't deserve a proper greeting.

Rising far before the sun had even deemed morning worthy of its presence yet was definitely not high on Shun's list of things he enjoyed doing. Oh no, quite the opposite. it wouldn't be so unpleasant if there were stars, or even the moon to be seen but no, the moon was too far passed in its route and even if it was in sight, the cloud cover would have kept any sight of it away. It seemed Nightshade had shared his displeasure at the hour as his alarm clock was very loudly ringing though the barracks and at such a pitch the dark wolf couldn't help but hear it, and be torn from his pleasant slumber.

He'd dressed as quickly as his sleep fogged mind would allow, opting for the warmer boots as the sun wouldn't be rising anytime soon if his clock really was flashing the right time at him. His hair, well a shame that never did tame very much to begin with but it was presentable at least, and he much doubted the Captain would care whether or not his hair was in place. This was a training after all, not an inspection, and the man had not too much room to talk given his own hair as well. It's only on a second thought that he grabs a spare bag of the rubber bullets for his rifle before heading to Nightshade's den to fully rouse the wolf. Hey, no harm in venting a little of his morning-hate on his current Apprentice, right? Of course not, it's all in the sake of training after all.

Nightshade had tried his best to ignore the shrill screeching of that clock, but it just didn't work. He was going to steal that demon object and bury it far in the woods someday very soon. Even if he did want to get up and not be late and have an angry Alpha on his tail, he didn't have to suffer through that! Once it had been shut off, he contented himself to get in just a few more minutes of sleep before his bonded approached him, for a moment ignoring the human for just an extra couple seconds of napping. The butt of a rifle nudging his side ruined his plans and he grudgingly stood up, lowering himself just enough for Shun to climb onto his back. I am going to chew on your Apprentice if they are late and it makes us look bad.

He trots out into the blasted cold towards the grounds that Alpha Twilight had specifically mentioned for this exercise, and lowers his head a good bit more than the usual once he catches the black wolf's scent on the wind. Best to not put anything to chance. Especially her temper. It isn't hard to spot her against the white of the ground, and he makes certain to approach from the front and give her plenty of time to see that at least he an his rider are coming. I don't see any of the others here yet. They are going to make us look bad.

Shun nods absently to the first remark, nearly grinning at the thought. "Of course you will, if the Captain's wolf doesn't want them first." He silently thanks the stars they currently can't see that he'd been lucky enough to not be on the receiving end of the she wolf's temper.

A frown makes its way into existence though when he notices Nightshade is right. His Apprentice, and the rest from their fort along with their Patrons, aren't there yet. He couldn't be that early because Twilight and Alister were there and the only time you were TOO early, was arriving before the Alpha pair. Only once they are near enough and Nightshade stops himself and lowers his tail at the annoyance nearly radiating from the female, Shun gives a quick salute. "Private Hades, Captain, Alpha Twilight. A good day for training." Rather for picking off someone for getting up so early, but that thought had already crossed his mind and then some.

Nightshade nods his head lightly in agreement with Shun. Good morning, Alpha Twilight. Polite.. and no having a tail or paw bitten off, probably, maybe.

Emi rubbed her hands as she hurriedly shuffled across the snowy ground on her trek to her impending doom. In all truth, she really didn't want to be there, or anywhere near the training field for that matter. Not when Alister and Twilight were there, probably waiting to use her as a target for demonstrating... something. Whatever that something may be, she really didn't want to be that target. But, chances were, she was going to be it.

If this little training thing had happened before she acted like an idiot and gotten her back hurt, the female probably wouldn't have been scared as she was. Luck seemed to be against her lately. After the little incident, while on night duty with Abigail, the apprentice was thinking over her actions and final managed to realize what she had done and thoroughly scared herself shitless.

Stopping at a tree, a bit aways from the training grounds, Emi spotted the blond hair of her Patron’s cousin. (But she wasn’t supposed to know that.) Now pacing back and forth, leaving a trail in the snow, she was freaking out. She knew how to greet the Captain, and she would do so, however, at the moment, she just needed to get her nerves in check.

A blood red wolf looked at his rider, worry pooled in his eyes. He had no idea how she would handle the situation once the actual training started. Hell, he wasn’t even sure she would make it through the greetings and quite frankly, he was more worried about her than himself. She was the one who got on the Captain and Alpha’s bad side, not him. She was going to have to watch out for herself more.Don’t worry, Emi. Just say your greetings and then keep your mouth shut the rest of the time, he told the girl, nuzzling her cheek.

He felt really sorry for her. The day when they came back to their barracks to see a letter on the door was not a good time. Flame could hear Emi throwing up all of her previously digested diner down the toilet. Plus, before they had come down to the training grounds, she was barely able to stomach any food. Only thing allowing her was the fact that she knew that if she didn’t eat, she was probably going to be in an even worse state after the training. His partner was so pale, and over the past week or so, she had lost quite a bit of weight, simply because she learned the fact that she was going to have to meet face to face with the one person she didn’t want to. It really didn’t help that they were second there. Let’s go.

Emi simply nodded, then started towards the two figures in the morning darkness. Coming up to them, the teenager didn’t dare look into either of their eyes. Saluting, she said in a quiet but audible voice, “Greetings, Captain, Alpha Twilight.” She had managed to choke down the fear that would have clouded her voice. She was able to keep from shaking, but she still wasn’t ready for the day. Turning to the Private, she gave an obvious nod of respect simply because she could barely find her voice after speaking to Alister and Twilight.

To her side, she could tell that Flame was lowering himself, flattening his ears in greeting with the Alpha.
Greetings Alpha, he said respectfully. It was going to be a long training session.

Alexis groaned in her barracks, the familiar buzzing of her alarm clock going off next to her head. She could hear her wolf pup whimpering at the sound. She hadn't exactly gotten used to the wolf needing her to turn off the alarm clock as soon as it went off, but she would get used to it in time. With a sigh, she stood and began to put her uniform ace on, 'I just don't understand why it had to be scheduled so early…' She thought glumly, only to be met with, 'Play?' by her wolf. He was still a young one, so she didn't expect much, but she was hoping he'd learn the rest of the dialect soon so that she could talk to him. She'd always been curious as to how wolves thought. She had been told they were like people - they each had a unique personality, but she just needed to know for herself.

She grabbed a brush off of her dresser when she had finished getting her uniform on and ran it through her hair a few times until it was smooth and she could run her hand through it without hitting any tangles. 'Well, let's be off. I've heard Captain Alister and Alpha Twilight have quite the reputation. And I can't imagine it would be good to be late.' She thought to herself and her wolf as she opened her door and walked out, holding it open until Amethyst, the wolf she had affectionately nicknamed Ammy, had walked out. She began walking down the trail towards where they had been summoned, the small wolf pup trotting along side her, panting with it's tongue out. 'How can you have your tongue out? It's cold..' She thought flatly. It must have had something to do with all of that fur.

It didn't take long for the pair to end up at their destination with two other pairs of riders and wolves, along with the Captain and Alpha. She stood next to the only other female rider and gave a respectful salute to the captain, "Good morning, Captain, Alpha." She said, smiling at each of them respectfully.

AmethystWind grinned as he saw the other three wolves and all he could think to them and his rider was, 'Play?' He glanced at them all one by one again, 'Play! Play!' He continued.

Alexis took a deep breathe, closed her eyes and bit her lip for a moment, 'No, Ammy. No play. Train. We're going to train, okay? You need to focus on this, okay buddy? And you need to show respect to Alpha Twilight!' She said to him, only to open her eyes to a pouting pup. A blush crept over her face - she should have had better control over her wolf, but she'd only had him a few days, and he didn't know any better…

An unusually dazed Jace Kinsley, made his way to the specified meeting area, the training grounds, half asleep. His wolf BlackJade trotted next to him, ready to n** his butt to keep him awake and from falling face first into the snow. Man, was he tired. Whatever Jaden was saying to him wasn’t registering at the moment. Not until another bite came at his butt, finally waking him up fully. Geez Jaden, I’m awake now, the apprentice told his wolf.

Pay focus! the tuff of green fur said with the vocabulary he knew. Say hi to… um… uh… Alpha! the wolf managed to say, and was quite proud of himself. By then, he new what to do when he came in contact with the head wolf, but he wanted to make sure his rider wouldn’t make a fool of himself, leading to making a fool out of BlackJade and both their Patrons. That would not be good. Nope, not at all. Especially when both of them were so mean.

Had it not been for the fact that he knew he was dead tired, Jace would have said something like ‘I know!’ but, as it was, he was tired, he had been practically sleep walking across the ground. He couldn’t say anything back when it was- The male lost his train of thoughts when four humans, and four wolves came into view. He recognized three of the four, the only one he didn’t know was the black and blue haired girl.

Walking up to the little group, he moved to place himself near Shun, his Patron. The adolescent of his decided to watch his younger brother, AmethystWind, the playful, purple idiot. Returning to his bonded’s side, both of the greeted the heads of the fort. “Good morning, Captain, Alpha Twilight.” To his side the small wolf lowered himself what little he could. Say, ‘Greetings Alpha’ he told his partner.

Greetings, um, Alpha Twilight It was obvious that BlackJade was trying hard to say the word correctly. He said as Jace had, and kept low to the ground. At the same time, he could hear his brother trying to get the others to play with him.

Riya walked briskly across the grounds, knowing she should've gotten ready earlier as she had the most horrendous habit of showing up late to pretty much anything and everything -- not the different between life and death late, fortunately, but usually by a few minutes. However, as she had learned the hard way in the Academy, one second late was enough reason for punishment.

At the moment, Riya had no idea exactly how late she was (or if she was even late, for that matter) to this training session -- or whatever it was supposed to be. She had, in fact, prepared herself an hour in advance, but then wasted a good amount of time running about her barrack in search of a hair tie. Finally after a good amount of time spent looking for the blasted tie, she managed to make her way outside in her uniform and hair in a high ponytail.

Then she had gone looking for her Patron's barracks, only to realize that he had never actually informed her of where his barracks was located. After a few more minutes (or maybe hours, she'd lost track of time) debating whether or not to search for her Patron, Riya decided that he was probably already waiting for her at the destination. And so she had hurried Stardust along, and the two finally caught sight of the small gathering -- her Patron not in sight, unfortunately.

Stardust really couldn't understand why the woman was so bent out of shape, because all they were doing (as far as she knew) was meeting their elders -- a good chance to socialize with the pack from her point of view. She kept noticing that "training" and "punishment" kept crossing the woman's mind, but the wolf couldn't really see how one was related to the other. Training means you're practicing, such as how to hunt, so why would you be punished for something you were never taught how to do? Really, humans were so strange.

Nevertheless, Stardust trotted leisurely alongside her rider, and only when the majestic and beautiful (but not more so than herself, she thought quietly) alpha came into view did she automatically slow down and lower herself closer to the ground. Tail tucked low and ears folded submissively, Stardust approached Twilight with her most puppy-ish whine, tail wagging gently as she reached up to lick the alpha's lips.

"Captain," Riya greeted with a salute, shoulders square and heels clasped together -- Mother had ingrained the rules of military behavior into her, and to this day, she still didn't know where her mother got all the knowledge of the wolfriders' infrastructure. Riya assumed that their (mysterious) father had probably been a wolfrider, or there was some wolfriding blood in their family -- at least that's what people kept telling her, which was strange considering there hadn't been one in the recent generations (at least). But she had the feeling that there was a lot in their history that Mother wasn't telling them, but as always, it was better not to ask.

Then a furtive glance at the large black wolf before she quickly averted her eyes, not wanting to anger the alpha by inadvertently offending the wolf. Was she supposed to greet the alpha? ...Riya thought she'd heard some of the others do it, and so she decided it was better to be safe than eaten. So she offered another saluate, this time directed to the wolf, "Lady Alpha." ...well, that didn't come out as elegant as it had sounded in her mind. Drat.

Kade slept peacefully, tucked contentedly into the warmth of his sheets in the cold hours of the time after the moon had set but before the sun rose. That is, until a damp, insistent thing prodded his side (and none too gently). He grumbled some incomprehensible complaints before turning over on his side, curling a bit, as if his back would offer more protection from whatever was intruding on his slumber.

However, it did little to defend him from the fangs that managed to grasp the back of his shirt and forcefully drag him onto the floor. He woke with a start to see a large tongue descend and thoroughly wet his face in a matter of seconds, while an inquisitive, but impatient, thought flashed across his mind.

Awake?’ StormCall asked, stopping her licks only after she had made sure her Bonded was fully aroused from his sleep. She wagged her tail, glad to see he was finally up, and nuzzled him as an apology for waking him so rudely, but the motion also seemed to be pushing him away, too, as if she were telling him to hurry up with something.

Training,’ she thought in response to the irritated, confused look she received. At that, her Bonded’s eyes grew wide with realization, and he scrambled to take off his pelt on put on some new ones. It was something humans seemed to do often, and it had taken her some time to get used to, although she was still confused about its purpose. What difference would it make if her fur was black or blue or purple? Nonetheless, it didn’t seem to be anything she could stop, so she waited for him to put on the familiar uniform her wore most often, albeit restlessly, before following him out.

Kade blew on his hands to warm them from the chill, wishing he had put on some warmer clothing but too hurried to risk going back and wasting more time. Speaking of which, what time was it, anyway? How long had he been asleep? It was a good thing StormCall had woken him, and he rubbed the base of her ears in thanks as they half-jogged, half-ran towards the meeting place, the snow around their feet thrown up in their wake.

As they neared, he could make out the silhouettes of at least five other Riders and their wolves, along with the captain, and he hoped they weren’t late. StormCall, sensing Twilight’s anger, uttered a low whine, which did little to ease his fears. But it didn’t seem anyone was mad at him and StormCall directly, so he hurried to the captain before anyone decided to do so. When he reached them, he said the only thing he could think of: “Reporting for duty, Captain! Alpha!” he said, saluting to each in turn.

StormCall, not one to act disrespectful around those higher in rank, let alone an angered Alpha, made sure to keep her body low and her tread light. She tucked her tail and licked the Alpha’s muzzle before greeting her. ‘Greetings, Alpha.
