So I'm originally an alto saxophone player but today I got to swtich to baritone saxophone (We now have two altos) in our concert band. It's not that big of a difference (just that the bari's big). It's a lot of fun. So is anyone thinking bout switching or has just switched recently?

I started out a percussionist. Too many percussionists came that year, and I got bored with it anyway. So I switched to Tuba, in the 7th grade. Then, in 8th grade, I went from Tuba to Baritone T.C., and had to learn the treble clef. It sucked... xp But then, in 9th grade, I switched to Trumpet, and I'm apparently a beast. lol Everyone says so, but I don't really think so (Which is part of why everyone doesn't believe I play the Trumpet... Thank you, stereotypes....)

I started out on the trumpet and in 7th grade switched to the french horn. And I still play the french horn, I like it better than the trumpet (no offense to all the trumpet players out there, just my personal preference) And now I'm considering just learning how to play the english horn, for the heck of it (though I would still play F. horn). I like learning how to learn to play new instruments. It's challenging which makes it exciting. biggrin

I started out on the trumpet and switched to the bassoon for college.
Drastic switch, I know. But I had to do it, the trumpet just wasn't for me.

Well I was thinking about switching to mellophone or drumline. (I'm a trombone player) but then I realized, the only way I'd make drumline is if I practice bass drum every day and learn every technique better than the existing bass drummers and the incredibly talented percussionists trying out for bassline. So nope, once again I have to stay on trombone. My director wouldn't let me switch anyway.

I've played flute since the 5th grade. Now that I'm in 8th grade, I decided to switch to the oboe. I started around October, and I've been playing ever since. Just yesterday (3-27-10) I went to a Solo & Ensemble Contest with my oboe for the first time. Got a 2.

I started out as a trumpet. Then I switched to Alto Sax. Then I switched to Tenor Sax for marching band. (My band director made me) And recently I switched to Bassoon. I plan to study all the woodwinds, especially oboe, english horn, and clarinet.

Let's see, I played clarinet in 6th grade and half of 7th. Then I switched over to percussion. And in 11th grade, I was nominated and brought into the jazz band as the pianist because I took lessons and the other pianist graduated. I am graduating this year so I get to nominate and audition piano players who have potential to take my spot. ^-^ I'm gonna be like simon and my band director will be like randy. (american idol joke for those who didn't get it. lol)

I played trumpet from fifth grade until december of freshman year (where I'm in right now), when I switched to Euphonium. The only other Euphonium player is a senior, and theres one in 8th grade and 3 in 6th... so if the 8th grader doesnt continue with band next year I'm screwed because Im still quasi-failing at playing razz

I've never actually switched from flute, and am just now getting dedicated to learning another instrument...
I was going to pick up baritone or alto sax sophomore year, but didn't. Sophomore year, I picked up a little piano. For this passed marching season, I was going to play tuba, but because of my busy schedule, I didn't want my flute chops turning to mush due to lack of practice. However, I AM picking up mellophone right now because I really want to do corps this summer. I'll probably play mello in college for marching band because I do not want to be in a section of all piccolos. Scary.
