Desert North
This is the patch of desert directly north of the airstrip. For as far as the eye can see north, there is nothing but sand dunes- the desert ends abruptly when it hits the ocean. Heading further in this direction would lead you to a safe distance from the airstrip- but that wouldn't be any fun, now, would it?
