Molten Caverns

Entering through a large crevice at the base of Inferno Mountain, you'll soon find yourself in a dangerous world of blazing heat underneath the volcano, with what few pokemon that can stand the environment making the situation even more perilous. Pools of magma are everywhere, and streams of the molten rock flow from the walls of the cave; add all that to vents of searing steam that burst out of the rock here and there, and you've got one nasty dungeon on your hands.
If you're crazy enough to venture through this place, be extremely careful. They say a legendary lies at the very end, who doesn't take too kindly to intruders...

"Holy Miltanks! This is just not my day! There's lava everywhere! Get me out of here!"

I thought that by now, I would have explored every type of place possible. After all, I was in a band of thieves before joining the guild, though it is to my misfortune that I am wrong. Molten Caverns is the informant to my opinion, delivering the truth on which I had felt was right. Never before had I felt such a burning. The air was crisp; I couldn’t do it, though I knew that if I were to fail to complete this task, then I would surely face the consequences back at court. Delia helped me through it, maybe I still am young, I don’t know what to think anymore though. Just keep moving I suppose.
-Copper

_____“Mission number one, let’s make it a good one.” I had all but hope with me. Delia was already waiting by the guild entrance; I however was trying to motivate myself to get this show on the road. Without hope, there is no point in fighting. I packed my bag and flew outside and perched next to Delia. Delia always had a bold look in his eyes, whenever I saw them; I always felt that I could conquer anything. I know it’s ridiculous to think that I would be weak enough to fall for a pair of eyes. However, I never did mind it, it’s not like I was falling for Delia, all he did was just gave me the strength I never knew I had. “Delia, we’re moving out.” I was the first one to step away from the guild, though Delia was very close behind. As we approached a withered sign, I noticed that the words ‘Molten Caverns’ was pointing towards the mountains. I felt, quite sad actually. Somebody made that sign, but no one probably even bothered to read it. After all, how many Pokémon actually want to go to Molten Caverns. “We’re leaving.” Delia walked on ahead of me, leaving me there alone to ponder the lone sign, though it would surely just be a waste of time to sit there. This Chikorita we were going after needed help as soon as possible, haven’t I already ruined enough people’s lives? The last thing I want is for this Chikorita to die because we wanted to stop and smell the roses. “Delia! I’m coming, though I hope you have a strategy in mind.” I was always big on precautions. I never wanted anything to happen to my friends or me. It was no surprise however, Delia didn’t have a strategy. I knew this because he was silent for the longest time, obviously thinking of something. “Well charge in.” Honestly, that was the most simplistic thing I’ve ever heard. Not even creative, though whenever you’re in a race against the clock to save a Chikorita, it doesn’t matter how creative you are, time is of the essence, not creativity. “Very well.”
-----After flying for what seemed like forever, we finally saw the mouth of the volcano. Heat repelled me from moving any further, though Delia kept moving. I wanted to tell Delia to forget it and that we should just go back, but I couldn’t bring myself to it. Instead, I followed silently. I wondered if I was actually leader material, I may have been in a band of thieves but I never actually lead any of them. I followed, yes followed like a lost puppy. I had nowhere to go and nothing to do. Life was kill or be killed as a child. It’s a wonder why I’m still alive today. “Stop day-dreaming Copper. We need to get the Chikorita, or have you already forgotten? Do you want to go back to the guild in shame? If so, go back, but I will not, not until I get this Chikorita.” Delia was already in the cave, while I was simply roaming around outside. “Sorry, I was… Thinking.” Delia shook his head in a disdainful fashion and walked deeper into the mouth of the volcano, though he seemed to have his fist clenched, as though he didn’t want me there. I wanted to tell him everything that happened to me as a child. Hopefully then he would understand, though knowing Delia, he would simply say that I was weak and pathetic because I didn’t just ask for death. Though, he knows how to prattle on about his father dying. I wish I could tell him that he was pathetic. But then I would be a hypocrite. “Hurry!” I looked up to see that Delia was already in the cave. “Sorry, again Delia!” Time to get started, I will rescue Chikorita. I dropped to the ground and walked into the cave. I honestly had no idea what I was in for; hopefully it’ll be nothing too serious.

_____The floor was number one, meaning I still was only at the start of this journey. The ground stood firm under-me, though it seemed a bit too hot for my sensitive feet, therefore I began to fly. I could see Delia’s bitter attitude towards my ability to fly. I wonder what his problem is. Either way, we need to hurry! “Rushing through to floor two agreed?” Delia nodded and began to sprint towards floor two. He wasn’t a fast runner but his run seemed a bit intimidating. He had a way of making himself appear larger than normal. “Remember the plan? Relentless!” I quickly followed behind as Delia reached the entrance to floor two. Already, I thought to myself. It did seem a bit too easy, I think it was then I realized I was mistaken. A Cyndaquil appeared before me. It seemed to have appeared from nowhere. I didn’t even trace it! “Hello there! Pleased to meet you!” The Cyndaquil seemed friendly enough. Not much like the other Pokémon we were bound to meet here. “Hello? Who are you?” Either way, if this really was an enemy, I wouldn’t be caught off guard. The Cyndaquil giggled at my question with a bit of a high-pitched squeal. Honestly, it was annoying. “Your voice is annoying, can you stop?” The Cyndaquil of course, stopped its laughing and looked up to me. It seemed angry, like it wanted to kill me right there. “You are very not nice!” The Cyndaquil let out a squeal and flames shot from its back. The flames were intense and seemed to make it look three times larger, though it wasn’t that much of an improvement seeing as how the Cyndaquil was rather tiny. Then it occurred to me, the Cyndaquil wanted to fight! The bitter truth stepped in front of me. I needed to redeem myself right? Then how could I defeat Pokémon that stood before me, even though my whole purpose was to help. Is this really right? “I see you’re pondering right? Then allow me to show you how it’s done.” I looked straight ahead of me and noticed that Delia was standing next to the Cyndaquil. Both Cyndaquil and I were startled by his sudden presence, though I quickly retreated to the feeling of relief. Delia held his bone high in the air that swung it down at the center of Cyndaquil’s head, killing it, no, rather knocking it out instantly. Bone Club, which was a move I didn’t want to see used on me, though I wouldn’t have to worry. I was a flying type so Delia’s attacks had no effect on me. “You knocked it out instantly? How so?” Delia shook his head to me and walked on to floor two, without saying a word. Being left in the dark, I was used to it. My life was always filled with darkness. I never knew what was going on and when I did, I was terrified. “Floor two is ahead, do I really need to explain the laws of ground versus fire or can you assume and we can move on?” Delia walked on to floor two leaving me there by myself. I think, that’s when I really began to realize this mission involved fighting. I couldn’t escape it. Was I the only one? Am I the only one who is forced into this type of situation? “Hope…” I said it, out loud. Hope is what will drive me to the end of this dungeon. I promise myself I will fight the next battle. I do have hope! Hope for a better future, hope for redeeming myself. I began to fly to floor two when I noticed that ground rumble ever so faintly. Maybe Delia had gotten himself into some trouble on floor two? Either way, I need to help out Delia. He helped me here on floor one, time to repay the favor!

_____I wondered around floor two for a good five minutes before finding Delia battling off a Magby, Torchic, and Slugma! “Delia, want some help?” I snickered a little and held my leak straight out. My plan was to target the Torchic. We were both birds, well in a way we were. “Oh? So you want some? Ember!” I will admit, I was scared, never before had I fought an enemy who wasn’t trembling. Though this Torchic sure was willing to put up the fight of its life! “Alright then, I see this can’t be talked out.” I flew into the air quite quickly, easily dodging the ember attack. I tried to act cool. I didn’t want the Torchic to think I was scared. If there was one thing I learned in all my life, it’s that enemies feed off of fear. “I guess it’s my turn?” I lifted my leak into the air began to move my body rhythmically to a beat in my head. My father sang out before a raid and for some reason, it helped to calm me and sharpen my strength. Swords Dance I suppose is what everyone else called it. “Pfft! You make me so mad! Darn you to heck and back! FireSpin!” The Torchic launched a blitz of fire at me knocking me to the ground. I looked around but my wings were almost too singed to work for me. I guess flying was not a choice, meaning I would have to stand on the almost unbearably hot ground. I squinted, seeing as how the heat from the Fire spin was still around me. Nothing was in sight, the heat was just too intense for me to predict an incoming attack. After re-gathering myself from the ground though, I noticed the Fire Spin was dying down. I knew that if the Torchic were to launch another Ember, I’d be as good as out. It’s not that it was strong, it was just the heat was way too fearsome for me. I lifted my wings into the air and charged at the Torchic, leak in hand! I was prepared for this next attack! “Air Slash!”I struck across the Torchic’s face before it even realized I was next to him. Of course, the Torchic collapsed. It was a sad fight and even sadder that the Torchic thought it stood a chance. Normally, I would attack it again, to kill it, but it was so hurt, that it couldn’t even stand up to fight me. I guess this is what is meant by knocking out, rather than killing. I’ll be honest with you, it felt good to actually strike a Pokemon, but even better to not kill it. I wonder if Delia feels the same way. Oh! Delia, I almost forgot about him. I turned to Delia who was already done with the Slugma and just finishing up the Magby who was hardly hanging on. “You’re story is pathetic.” Delia jumped into the air and hurtled his bone at the Magby, hitting it in the face causing an instant knock-out. The bone then quickly came back to his hand, that move was definitely his bonemerang. “Hey, good job.” Delia shook his head to me, and without a second guess, walked on to floor three. Though, I guess he was right, there was no time to sit there and congratulate everyone on a job well done when there is Pokemon on floor fifteen who’s probably dying of heat.

_____“Bwahaha! I see you are at floor three eh?” Delia was the first to turn towards the sound, I then followed. A Magmar stood on a broken rock, preparing a flamethrower attack. “What are you doing? Want to get hurt?” My threats were always meaningless but at least I tried. “Who am I? Who am I? You don’t know who I am? No matter, not many people do. I am part of the deadly trio that live in Molten Caverns! Along with a Torkoal and Macargo! We slay unwanted pests like you two!” To be frank, I never liked nut-jobs that thought they were better than anyone else. I feel everyone is equal and the people who thought they were better should be knocked down a little. “I got this Delia.” Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Delia’s stern face wipe off for a split second. He was obviously not expecting me to say that. “Oh? No fighting the ground type? I was so hoping for a good fight, instead I’m stuck roasting duck!” The magmar turned away from Delia and faced me. “Delia, go to floor four without me. I can handle this, after all… I am a leader.” Delia nodded to me and ran on ahead. He seemed up-set with the decision but I couldn’t care less. “Flamethrower!” I hardly even thought about how I was going to fight before the Magmar launched a flamethrower at me. “Oh, Agility!” My feet and wings worked in synch as I maneuvered around the incredible heat from which the flamethrower supplied. Thank goodness for agility though now I need to figure out how to attack him. Looking around I noticed an opening, the Magmar was beginning to inhale again for another flamethrower. “Air Slash!” I held my leak into the air and cut the air causing the air to be forced into magmar. “Wah!” Magmar was hit, no, not only hit! Magmar fell off of his rock and hit the ground below face first. “Air Slash one more time!” I launched one more air-slash, this time, the Magmar passed out. It was, I’ll be honest, a terrible fight. He preached of being in the deadly trio, yet something tells me he was the weakest and that’s why he was on floor three. No matter, floor four here I come!

Atra

Atra was out in the wilds around the city by himself when the sun was suddenly blotted out above him. Looking up, Atra realized it was the outline of a familiar Salamence, and quickly scrambled out of the way as she landed.

"Young Master Eclipse! I've been looking for you." The Salamence boomed in a strong but gentle voice. Atra hated having to look up to speak with her, but he tried his best to ignore it. Since she was a Salamence after all.

"What do you need Mrs. Victor?"

"Have you seen Sherman anywhere?"

Atra shook his head.

"No, haven't seen him since I joined the guild. Why?" The Victor family serves Pluto as guards, and Sherman was their only son. He was also Atra's best friend as well as exploration buddy.

"Oh dear, we haven't seen him or Melanie since yesterday."

Melanie Azalea the Chikorita was a part of Atra and Sherman's tight-knit group. Before the eevee left for the Guild they had done everything together.

---

As Mrs. Victor landed in front of the Eclipse manor (Pluto's, not the main castle), a crowd was gathered on the drawbridge. Atra hopped off her back and ran forward, shoving his way through the curious crowd of servants towards the hulking form of another Salamence. When they realized who he was, they parted for him.

Atra skidded to a stop at Mr. Victor's feet, staring at an unconscious Bagon on the ground. He was scratched and covered with burns, and even as he arrived several servants were already putting him on a stretcher to bring into the castle.

"What happened to Sherman?"
Atra demanded, staring up at Mr. Victor's head. "And where's Molly?" Molly was what Melanie preferred to be called. The Salamence looked down, positively looming over the tiny little Eevee, but his posture was submissive.

"Sir, while sweeping the Northern lands I happened to come across my son's body on the side of the Volcano. There was a small cave opening pouring smoke out into the air. I suspect he must have gone into the volcano and barely escaped through the opening. We have had found no signs of Miss Azalea, but we do suspect-"

The Salamence stopped his report when he realized a look of shock come over Atra's face.

"Is something wrong Young Master Eclipse?" Mr. Victor asked, trying not to sound anxious. He wanted to be dismissed so he could go watch over his son. Atra shook his head and turned around, catching sight of a hysterical Bayleaf wailing in the crowd. Molly's mother.

"Molly's in the Volcano. I'm going to get her out."

---

Mr. Victor agreed to fly Atra back to the spot he had found his son, and Atra groaned inwardly the moment he spotted it. It was noticeable from miles away; a smoking vent at the edge of the mountainside. They landed roughly, and Atra examined the opening.

"Can you please wait for me here? If I'm not back by nightfall, the search party would have already been organized." The young Eevee was being uncharacteristically grim and formal.

The Salamence fidgeted.

"Sir, is it really safe to let you go alone? I do not think your father would approve-"

"Screw my father. Molly needs me."

Atra approached the opening, coughing as the acrid smoke entered his nose and lungs. He summoned his psychic abilities, pushing the smoke particles protectively away from himself, forming a globe of clear air around him. Behind him Mr. Victor watched on nervously, but he was much too big to enter the little opening to accompany him.

For Atra it was the perfect size, and he carefully picked his way through the rocky tunnel. The walls and floor were wrinkled and black, rough to the pads on Atra's paws. It sloped steeply downwards, and the temperature began to climb dramatically. The air was so hot that eventually every breath stun his lungs painfully. He did his best to disperse the heat with his ice magic, fearing for Molly's life.

This tunnel. He, Sherman and Molly had found it while exploring the mountains ages ago. While most explorers knew of the crevice at the base of the mountain that entered the tunnel systems within the semi-active volcano, the kids had found this alternate entrance. They had often dared each other to enter, and had only ever gotten as far as the end of the tunnel before turning tail and scurrying back.

Because the end of the tunnel simply opened up into a crack in the wall of a huge chamber. The crack was far above any sort of solid ground, the wall sloping steeply downwards, and below them ran a maze of solid rock frozen in odd shapes and pools, even rivers of magma.

It was at this point Atra was forced to stop again, nearly overwhelmed by the heat which hit him like a wall. It wasn't the humid heat of the jungle or the dry heat of the desert; it was the baking acrid heat of something burning in a oven. It wasn't pleasant and no one except fire Pokemon would ever truly be able to get used to it.

Atra felt the reassuring weight of the Earth Plate strapped to his back. It emanated power, ancient power, and he knew he could call upon Arceus himself to aid him. He could do this, what could go wrong?

He could fall into a pool of lava.

Pushing unpleasant images out of his mind, the Eevee looked at the rough uneven walls of the room that sharply sloped down into the rock-and-lava below. He made his way carefully, grabbing onto one handhold and then another, testing each before putting his weight on it. He was panting hard -Eevees couldn't sweat to release heat- and was doing everything he could to keep his core temperature down.

He slipped at one point and went tumbling downwards, flailing violently and desperately. He finally came to a stop against a large crest in the rock, tail in the air and head against the ground. If he had continued to head in that direction, he would have rolled right into one of the rivers of lava.

After a long long time of carefully navigating the slope, he finally found himself the rough, wrinkly rock that was relatively flat at the bottom of the chamber. It was folded over itself many times, and Atra knew it was hardened lava- magma. It was excruciatingly hot to walk on, and the Eevee soon found himself using up enormous amounts of energy simply draining his magic to keep himself cool. It took a tremendous amount of willpower for him to lower the use of ice magic to the bare minimum he needs to function.

He looked around, seeing that he had landed in a relatively large area of solid rock. The entire chamber stretched out far enough that the haze produced by the heat distorting the air made it look as if it went on forever.

To his left was a large lake of lava. In the middle of it was a large column of rock, as if a wave of lava had rose, formed a crest before attempting to crash down, and was suddenly hardened. Atra stared at it, and more specifically the speck of green at its tip.

Looking up, he could see that the column was pretty much a straight path down from the crack; had she slipped and fallen down, miraculously landing safely (relatively) on the column? The wall formed a sheer cliff just before the column. That speck of green there was probably...

"Molly!" Atra yelled, but the Chikorita did not respond. He couldn't tell if it was because she was unconscious, which was likely seeing the conditions, or she simply couldn't hear him above the bubbling of the lava and the sound of the hot wind currents swooshing around the large chamber.

Atra made his way back up to the wall, manoeuvring over to the cliff. There, in front of him, lying on the rock, was Molly. The solid rock was a simply three-feet jump from Atra's position, but he couldn't bring himself to jump over the lava below. He was terrified. He reasoned that it was because he wouldn't be able to simply carry Molly back around anyways, so he had to stop and think about it. In truth, Atra rarely thinks that far ahead, so he was just making excuses.

"Hey 'choo, what 'choo doing here?" A voice asked behind him. Atra nearly jumped, but was terrified of going over the edge into the swirling lava below. He turned around to face three humanoid Pokemon, each one bigger than the other.

There was one about Atra's size, with a stupid-looking poofy head. The second one was much bigger, had a flaming tail and had red and yellow flame patterns on it. The last one was slightly bigger than the second, a lot more bulky, and had a cannon as a right arm. Atra recognized them as Magby, Magmar, and Magmortar. Ah this was not good.

"None of your business." He shot back."Just leave me alone."

He didn't want to deal with these idiots at the moment. Especially since he couldn't deal with them at the moment.

"We saw 'choo comin' down from dey roof. This here our land y'see, we don't take no strangers on our land here." The Magmar started talking, and Atra could barely understand the heavy accent.

"Well just give me a damn second. I'm getting my friend here and we'll be right off OK?" Atra snapped, gesturing over to the unconscious Chikorita on the solid column. He was getting more than a bit impatient and was downright nervous. He didn't want to be in this place any longer than he had to.

The three wild idiots didn't seem to understand though.

"What 'choo say? 'choo and 'chure friend 'aint no gonna stay here! This here land is ours!" The Magmortar roared and the little Magby shook its head vigorously in agreement. Atra shook his head in exasperation, and gathered himself for a fight before he ran head-on into a rather big problem.

There was no water in the air here. It was too hot, all of it had escaped the chamber long long ago. Atra couldn't create his own water for his attacks; he had lost his only advantage against these things. Damn. If only he had thought to grab a Rainy Orb before he came...

His thought process was interrupted as the Magmortar swung its canon-arm at Atra, and with the yelp the eevee dived to the side. The blow missed and the stupid thing allowed its momentum to carry it all the way around in an unbalanced spin. Atra took advantage of this and leapt up at his opponent, biting down on his throat.

Or at least, that was the plan. The moment he touched the Magmortar's body his felt the heat coming off of it immediately right through his fur. With a yelp he let go and tumbled backwards, clawing at the sloped ground to avoid slipping down into the molten rock below. His fur was singed where he made contact with the Magmortar, and with despair he knew the other two were similarly protected. These were Pokemon made of fire. How could he attack them?

He quickly tried to fire off a spell, gathering a dark ball of energy to hurl at them. The Magmar simply breathed a thick stream of fire at him. The shadow ball dispersed but soaked up the brunt of the attack, leaving Atra unharmed. Atra stared at the three of them, their smiles cocky and stupid, and he didn't know how he was going to survive this.

This really ticked him off. He didn't like feeling beat, especially when it was to some idiots of wild Pokemon.

The Magby leaped at him, fire surrounding his body in a large flaming circle, and Atra didn't dare backpedal fast enough to get out of the way lest he lost his footing.

The baby fire type latched onto Atra back, and though the stronger eevee threw him off with relative ease, it left parts of his fur on fire. Gritting his teeth through a painful whimper, Atra once again tried to form a Shadow Ball. The Magmar simply tackled him, and pinned him to the ground.

"We has food to-night!" The Magby cheered, and through the haze of pain, Atra froze with fear.

"We has two food to-night!" The Magmar on top of Atra corrected with glee, and Atra knew they meant Molly. He struggled feebly, but the weight of the Magmar was too much, and it hurt to move. Sharp rocks jabbed into his side, and the Magmar's hands burned through his fur and skin. At least his back was protected by the Plate, and an odd lump in his bag shielded him further from the sharp rocks.

That lumped seemed to be getting bigger- no, nearer. It was pressing into him. As if it was phasing through the bag. The pressure was then suddenly gone, as if the lump had disappeared. A bright light flashed, blinding Atra and he felt fire leap up and around him. But the fires did not burn; in fact, they were pleasantly warm and the hands of the Magmar no longer hurt where they made contact. He felt the rocks around him give way as his limb grew longer, his body grew larger, and he grasped for the power that that surging through him.

He was evolving. The Firestone he carried had sensed his danger and reacted. Even as part of him fought it -no! Not this, no damn it! He was going to be a Glaceon, not a Flareon!- the other side of him desperately embraced it. He barely heard the startled gasps of the fire Pokemon before him.

User Image

The Magmar had let go, stepping back cautiously as the light finally faded into the dim brightness of the lava-illuminated cave. Atra staggered to his feet, feeling power and life within him as he has never felt before. Looking down he saw his brown fur and silver neck ruff, and for a moment he wondered if he had simply just imagined things. He didn't seem to look any different...

Looking back up, Atra saw the cautious Magmortar and Magmar and realized they weren't as big as before...or maybe...

He then looked down to the ground beside him, and saw several broken straps of leather, singed, but obviously snapped off. They were his explorer's bag and the harness he used to keep the Earth tablet on his back.

He had become bigger, too big for his equipment. He had evolved. He was a Flareon. He stared at the Earth plate now lying on the ground, a few straps still wound around it. Atra swiped those off with his claws and stared back up the two of them, nothing but anger in his eyes.

"I'll make you regret that. I...Damn it. It wasn't suppose to be like this. I haven't chosen yet!" He yelled at them, his rage building up and he could feel the new fires within him roar to life. "I wanted to be a Glaceon!"

It wasn't fair! And it was these stupid wild Pokemon's fault!

He felt a weight on his back, and he turned to see the little Magby grabbing onto his tail, fire blazing in an attempt to hurt him. The little thing knew it had worked before, and was unaware of the fact the newly evolved Flareon was only absorbing his fire, becoming stronger.

The tail began to glow, and Atra spun around, throwing the baby fire type at the Magmar and Magmortar. The latter caught the little one out of mid-air, eyes narrowed to slits. It raised its canon-hand, a glow forming within the barrel, gathering energy.

Atra raised a paw and brought it down on the earth Plate, and for the first time, tapped its power. He was so angry he didn't care what the consequences were.

Magical Light exploded within Atra's vision, power surging from the plate, a direct conduit to Arceus himself. All that power travelled up through Atra's paw, through the Flareon's magical conduits, forcing its way out into the world.

Atra was screaming; the pain was overwhelming. There was so much power, too much power for his body to safely channel. He could feel his conduits bulge and begin to tear.

The solid rock before him began to bubble like hot mud and shift, roiling around in a large circle centred around Atra, who's paw seemed to be stuck to the Earth Plate. The Magby evolutions were terrified now; all three turned to run, the Magmortar abandoning his attack, but to no avail.

A wave of liquid rock came surging up and crested above them, and finally came crashing back down, splashing and foaming like water, engulfing the family and encasing them. The rock continued to violently churn around him, some flowing off the cliff like a waterfall and hissing as it hit the lava below.

Atra's screaming trailing off to a whimpering pant as he slowly closed himself off to Arceus's power. Just before he cut it off completely, he tiredly flicked a stream of liquid rock at the pillar Molly laid upon. Once he took his paw off the glowing plate, everything hardened once more.

The Magby evolutions were now three statues, the frozen droplets of some of the rock still suspended, making it look like they had just come out of the water and was dripping wet. The wave-like patterns the liquid rock had taken was frozen on an angle on the steeply sloped wall, which didn't seem as steep anymore. A small circle around Atra was untouched, as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

Looking over at the pillar, he saw that the liquid rock he had thrown there had also turned into solid smooth rock, forming a bridge. He looked down at the plate, dully realizing he had used the power of Arceus himself, not for healing as he has always been able to do, but to shape the very world around him.

Judgment...that was one of the reasons the Eclipse family was so respected. Atra hadn't appreciated how powerful it was until now. And he was scared of it too. So much power, it had nearly killed him! And though he had been strong enough to withstand it -thank Arceus for all the magical training he had taken- it was so painful he could barely withstand just holding onto the spell.

In the future, he has to consider calling upon the power of the plates well. That...that was not something he would ever lightly use, ever again.

Picking up the tablet in his mouth, he stuffed it the best he could into his explorer's bag, and walked across to retrieve Molly. After tying the unconscious Chikorita as well as his bag to his back with the remains of the plate's harness, the Flareon made his way slowly back up the wall towards the crack.

He didn't even care enough to notice that the heat and smoke no longer bothered him in the slightest. Atra couldn't help but think about how he had been cheated of his birthright as an Eevee; the choice of evolution.

When Atra finally made his way outside, the sun was almost set and Mr. Victor was nearly ready to fly back to the mansion to report that Pluto's son was missing. He stared when Atra finally stumbled out and collapsed.

"Fly us to...Molly's mother."

{{ I'll be grading this mission in Shawn's absence, as he won't be back until Tuesday. It's short a few enemies, but it's very well-written. Creative, too. I'll have to keep an eye out for your missions from now on. }}

Rewards - Grass Knot TM + 3000PD
You may also choose to recruit Magby or Magmar if you wish.

((Thank you! I failed at the math when I first started and thought 15/3 = 3 enemies for some reason >.>

I'm overriding your post-mission story though, if you don't mind. I've planned a different aftermath.))

Atra

Atra fell asleep almost immediately after the Salamence took flight, Molly still strapped to his back. He woke up groggily when he felt Mr. Victor's flight turn into a hover and blinked through his tiredness to see what was it that had stopped the Salamence.

Floating ahead of them was the faintly-glowing outline of a Gengar.

"Captain, Master Eclipse wishes for you to take young Atra to the manor. Mrs and Mr. Azalea are also there for their daughter." The ghost told them, and then dissipated, the wisps of dark matter that made him up blown apart by the wind from Mr. Victor's wings.

The Salamence angled his wings, changing direction from the city where the Azalea family lived to Pluto's Manor, outside the edge of the city. The exhausted Flareon fell right back to sleep.

He was woken up by a gruff angry voice.

"Get up. Now."

Atra yelped as he felt a paw grab him by his collar and yanked him off of Mr. Victor's back. He landed roughly on the ground, though he did his best to make sure he didn't fall on Molly who was still on his back. He could hear the Salamence's weak complaints about being a bit more gentle.

"Enough." The voice commanded, and the Salamence shut up immediately. Opening his eyes, Atra found himself staring up at a dark shape against the night sky.

"Father..." He muttered, struggling to his feet, but the Leafeon placed a firm paw on him, pinning him down.

"You fool. You could have easily died for nothing."

Atra felt anger rise within him.

"Not for nothing! I got Molly out didn't I!?"

He felt a clawed paw smack him across the face, and it stung. Atra stared at his father, stunned.

"Melanie is dead, before you even went. That girl was in the caves for more than a day. How long do you think a young grass type like her-?" The Leafeon stopped talking and a coughing fit overcame him. The paw that was pinning Atra down let go.

A Roserade, one of the residential nurses, ran to Pluto's side, insisting that he get back inside and avoid the night chill. Atra didn't notice all of that, just staring at his father and trying to digest his words.

"But I...I rescued her...I got her back..." Atra protested weakly, not resisting as someone gently untied the Chikorita from his back. There was sobbing behind him, and he knew it was Molly's mom. Her husband was trying his best to comfort her.

She was dead. Everything he had done was for nothing. And he hadn't even known.

"If it makes you feel any better, a reward had been put up for rescuing her. Here's the damned guild voucher." Pluto had broken free of the nurses and stuffed a piece of paper into Atra's bag. His voice held no sympathy, and he didn't look back as the fretting nurses finally got him back inside.

"Oh baby, it's alright, he doesn't mean it." A gentle voice told Atra. When he felt his mother's soft touch, he couldn't help it; he broke down crying.

---

Atra stayed at the manor overnight, not bothering to argue about anything with anyone. When Lilium had been alerted to what had happened she teleported over right away, wasting no time in helping Atra get washed, groomed, and put to bed properly.

Pluto asked him to stop sulking and return to his team the next morning, and Atra left with Lilium. Along the way they bumped into an Ivysaur, Molly's father.

"Thank you for...for bringing Melanie back. Thank you."

The Flareon didn't reply.

Client: Grotle
Culprit: Magmortar
Mission: "Man, some stupid Magmortar stole my Miracle Seed and took off with it! It's just to spite me, since he can't even use it... But I can't go get it back myself, you gotta help me!"
Dungeon: Molten Caverns
Floors: Culprit last seen on floor 16
Rewards: 500 PD + Mobile Scarf

Outside the dungeon
"Well here we are Blaze!" Exclaimed Kyra excitedly. She was full of energy and wanted to hurry up with the mission. "Ok Kyra but remember, you have to calm down because if you aren't calm, you're not paying attention to what you are doing and thats when you get yourself into dangerous situations." Blaze sighed, his new partner had way too much energy for her own good. They were opposites in nearly every way, he was more reserved and calm whereas Kyra was always eager to do something else, never wanting to do nothing for too long. After reading the mission description again, he and Kyra entered the dungeon to start their first mission together.

Floor 1
The first portion of the first floor was strangly uneventful and quiet. The two weren't saying anything as they didn't want to attract unnecessary attention. It was hard for Kyra however, but she was willing to try because she trusted Blaze's decision and didn't want to make him fight if he was uncomfortable with it. However, just as the stairs were coming into view, Blaze stopped suddenly and motioned for Kyra to do the same. "What's the matter Blaze? Can you hear something that I can't?" Kyra whisered. "Yeah, it sounds kind of like a high pitched chirping" Blaze replied with a bewildered look on his face. He quickly turned around and saw a lone torchic wandering down the corridor. "What's this torchic doing in here?" Kyra said to Blaze while moving towards the Torchic. The Torchic seemed to just stare at Kyra before it got a mischievous glint in its eye. When Kyra was about a foot away from it Blaze noticed what the torchic was about to do "Kyra! It's about to use ember!" Blaze shouted at his partner. Kyra heard Blaze shout and quickly curled up into a rollout just as the Torchic fired it's attack. The momentum that Kyra was spinning at made the ember dissipate on contact. Also, due to Kyra's type the damage to her was very minimal. She then turned her rollout into an attack and knocked the torchic out effortlessly, "That was close, Kyra, you need to be more vigilant when we're in a dungeon. The sad truth is that looks can be very decieving with pokemon like that" Blaze explained to his partner. "Yeah well I'm sorry but I'm a little too trusting to want to believe that" Kyra said back. Trying to not want to make her angry with him, Blaze said nothing more and they continued towards the stairs to the next floor.
