Today I traded in Brawl and TP with the attitude that I won't have a fully functional Wii for quite some time. My plan was to use it to play Gamecube and WiiWare games, but one day I would like it fixed/replaced.
I just wanted to know if there was a way to transfer WiiWare games from one Wii to another, or if I should stick to used GC games. Option 3 is to buy a PS2 and re-collect the Final Fantasies, but honestly I could just ROM those with how much I'd be paying.

I think... I wonder if this might be true...But when I first got my Wii, it asked me to link my MyNintendo account to the Shop Channel. I did, and that was that. I wonder if you linked a different Wii to the same account, if you might be able to re-download the games?

I so hope that would be true because we lost a lot of stuff when Wylr traded our Wii.
But he says he doesn't think so because then you could let your friends use your account to download the games onto their Wiis.

I don't remember having been asked to link anything. :c I don't think I have a MyNintendo account.
Dessy has a good point, though; you COULD just give them to a friend that way. But honestly if there's absolutely no way to back up VC and WiiWare incase your console goes for a s**t, it's pretty ridiculous to charge five, seven bucks a title.

You two have got a good point. But... I once looked for a way to unsync the Shop Channel account from the MyNintendo Account, and it just didn't exist. I think if anything, that might be their failsafe, that once linked you can't unlink.

So there's nothing I can do?
I'd say I'd go trade it in, but I've already complained a couple times to the Microplay guys that it doesn't read Wii discs, so they wouldn't take it. xd Maybe I'll rent one at Blockbuster and swap it for mine.

My friend experienced a problem where through a bit of mischief from her nutty brother, her Wii fell from her 5 story window.
She wanted to transfer her VC/WW games to a newer Wii via SD Card, but such a thing was not possible.
Get a new Wii, you'll have to re-download the games again, I take it.
Just to be sure you can always contact Nintendo about this.http://www.nintendo.com/corp/contact.jsp

Yu can put VC data onto an SD Card and play off of that. Yu just can't take it off onto another Wii. So if yu wanted to get a new Wii, yu'd have to use that SD Card to play your stuff.

Hash's SD card thing is probably your best bet. Though if you send the Wii into Nintendo for repairs and explain that you have the games backed up on SD card, they'd probably figure out a way for you to get the games back onto said Wii.
