As of Tuesday March 9th the game is out.
I've already received my copy.

I hope everybody who's getting has it reserved.

None of the stores around here will let people reserve it crying So i had to order overnight shipping.

I've gotten to Chapter 3 and so far..

When you get to Chapter 3 you actually see the battle system start to evolve more and it's actually pretty technical. I've been reading my guide and the Paradigm shifts remind me of job selection on FF11.. Because anyone CAN be a Ravager class but it doesn't necessarily mean they will be good at it. Needless to say this is a single player game so the point is to have fun with it! Make Lightening into a black mage! Who cares! whee (It also reminds me of the Sphere Grid in 10 <3)

You won't be able to make a custom party til Chapter 11 though which.. is kind of (tincy wincy) annoying cause.. I really can't stand Hope. He's such an annoying little bugga. rofl Thankfully I haven't got far in the game because I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when it comes to spoilers. I'll look out for that if I happen to reply again.

Anyone else think this game was a let down? I mean it could of been better but I really didn't enjoy it like I did any of the others. And currently Ive played every FF title but V.

Not that I could say anything was terrible, it was pretty the battle style was cool, and different. I ant to finish getting the trophies and all but hopefully Versus will feel that gap XII left. mrgreen

IDK why you were let down. I reserved it and got the chapter 10 or 11 before I quit. I have a bad habbit of getting close to the end of an RPG and quitting lol, no idea why but it happens with game. Anyways I loved it. The graphics were great, I liked the characters and the lvling system. The battle system made me pay attention to switching classes and keeps me on my toes... I suppose the only dissapointing part for me was the auto attacking. While it was really nice, it means the only thing you need to pay attention to is switching classes.

I don't know I just didn't feel any strategy in doing classes. It just didn't feel like a Final Fantasy game and also it felt short maybe that could be it. I beat it in less than 20 hours and that was while lvling in the field also. Idk, idk, idk...

I only feel it was a let down because of how limited you were at times. Plus there are minor technical issues that are bugging me, like the fact that they only use one weapon model for each character the entire game.
Also the linearity I seeing annoying, I'm not exploring I'm moving from point a to point b. I know it will open near the end though.
Its a great game I'm not denying that, but it does have some draw backs.
Luckily I Versus XIII to look forward to, and of coarse XIV.

You know, I can't say I'm disappointed about anything during the game's story. However, the strategy guide boasts that there's many many hours of after-game game play that will keep you busy and interested. The after-game just felt like it was based too heavily on grinding. To me, FF12 had a better after-game. I had fun, I wanted to do every single little objective, and I felt almost like I was just getting sent on little DnD quests.

I guess my disappointment is easier understood when you know that I have over 180 hours on FF12 because of the after-game objectives. In fact... I was thinking about going back to play it again... but I think it may be better not to get back into that addiction.

Overall, I do feel like FF13 fits perfectly into my list of FF favorites. I found the battle system to be rather tactical, but not too bad, seeing as most enemies were easily beat using the stagger system. The bosses were interesting though. Oh how I hate the second end boss... *anger*

I havem't beaten the game yet, but when I do, I really wanna master all of the roles. Is the final boss hard?

The gap you feel=

No towns

People tend to underestimate towns. Towns are where you see what the NPCs lives are like. Towns are where you can relax and just wonder around, not feeling rushed to pursue the story.

They got rid of that, and of mini games, then called it a Final Fantasy.

This is the problem of FFXIII. Get ready:
....
......
........
..................
Its not an RPG.

It emulates one, but lets be honest, this game IF it is an RPG, is on the borderline of one, or an action/adventure game.

Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with that. But this is Final Fantasy we're talking about. A game series that needs some constants to still be considered a part of that series. If this game wasn't a main numbered game, I would probably give it a 10/10.

Since it's going to be graded like other FFs, i give it a 6/10

Palumpolum, Nautilius, that city in the Yaschas Massif, the city up north in the Archylte Steppe, Oerba and Eden say hello. Chapter 1, 7,8,9,10, 11, 12 and 13 all have NPC's in the conventional sense. Chocobo riding and racing around, plus the missions count as minigames.

Great research there.

Plus, giving it a 6/10 rating for being a main series title? That's also some great logic there.

I felt the similarities of the towns as well.
The problem wasn't that there were towns. The problems were that the towns were not FF towns.

The towns in that game were just another path for you to walk across to further the story. Not a pit-stop. Go ahead an throw your FF elitism at me, saying that there were towns and NPCs.

The truth is it just wasn't the same. This is no nostalgia talking, this is from someone who actually loves to play RPGs, and is a great fan of the FF saga. There was no choice of immersion as there was in other FF titles. The ability to walk through a town for a while, talk to the NPC's learn about their lives, help a few of them out, open up new side missions, learn more about the world around you. That never happened, it was one dramatic race to the finish.

I give it a double standard on rating it as a game, for the same reason no one compares car and skateboards as vehicles. It might be one hell of a skateboard, but it will do nothing in comparison to a car.

This game was fun. It had one hell of a battle system, yes with faults. It just didn't hold up to specifications other FFs had before it. Yes, they tried something new, but I can't love it as FF. It was a engaging game with a solid story, and intriguing characters. But that was it.

What saddens me is this game is more of a movie, but less of an RPG than Xenosaga.

I love FFXIII. I would say it is one of, if not, my favorite FF title. I never really cared to much about NPC's. They usually on banter on about nothing realted to the over arcing story line wich is what I care about the most. The world fit into that story line perfectly. I felt more at home out on the vast reaches of Pulse then I ever flet in Cacoon or in some town. Just because I stoped at a town never slowed down the need or urgency to get to the next cut scene in the other FF titles I have played. The game still strongly holds to the genre of an RPG though it does progress a lot more rapidly then most.
