Alrighty, this is a little story I developed thinking about concepts from such things like Mass Effect, Godzilla, Mortal Kombat, King of the Monsters, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember. Forgive me if it seems a little odd since I made it up as a went along, not really sure if it ties together well, but it will be my first RP I've worked on alone! So I hope I did all good like. First will be the story, then the characters, and finally the terms: enjoy.

The Strory

In the beginning, there were many worlds and all of them possessed intelligent life. This life was given form by the Celestial, an unknown entity or entities that were told to be the first conscious life forms in the universe. Every planet was given life and the ability to interact with other life. Despite how calm this began, conflict broke out. Another being which has been rumored to be part or one of the Celestial created the Eye of the Beholder, an artifact that inspired the concept of beauty and judgment upon the holder to others and thus, creating conflict. No matter what method the Celestial used to keep the life forms from fighting one another, they always found a way to bypass it and continue conflict. Seeing as the Celestial could no longer keep the peace, it divided or reformed itself into several life forms, called Guardians. These beings were giants, behemoth creatures that somewhat represented their races in a way or form. Each planet was given a Guardian or ‘Monster’ to both keep the peace on their chosen planet and stop their planet from conflicting with other planets in nearby solar systems. The Celestial had sacrificed itself to bring what seemed to be ever lasting peace between all life, though this could hardly last. Despite the Celestial being quote ‘the perfect being’, it had forgotten to destroy the one item that caused this conflict: the Eye of the Beholder.

The Eye soon fell into the hands of the Planet Derfuneo, then into the hands of its own Guardian, the Destroyer. This Guardian was enticed by the Eye to cause conflict with other Guardians, out of a need to prove it was superior based upon the Eye of the Beholder’s curse. With the Eye giving the Destroyer great power, Planet Derfuneo’s Guardian began to destroy world after world and killing their Guardians, absorbing them using the Eye of the Beholder to become even more powerful. Some planets were able to repel the Destroyer, thus earned their right to exist and thrive. The Destroyer was obliged to not attack planets that with stood its power, continuing onto the next planet. One planet that survived was called Earth or Gaia as called by many other planets. Earth was considered the weakest of planets since its Guardian was replaced by a newer Guardian thanks to attacks by the nearby planet Mars, but in fact having two Guardians made this planet stronger, even though they both fought each other regularly. The Guardian of Earth often fought with the Ancient; the second Guardian to ever be created in this universe, the Old One being the first. One of the last planets to be left after the Destroyer’s onslaught, Earth soon began to discover how to create Guardians themselves using technology, mutation, and magic. Very few of these Guardians were successful, only Earth and unnatural forces being able to create ones that could compete against real Guardians.

Millennia after millennia, the Destroyer slept, slumbering and gaining a concept of its power. As it finally awakened, the Destroyer came to a great realization that would utterly decide how the universe would be changed. In the Destroyer’s sleep, it discovered that over countless times, the events of the Universe’s history had repeated itself; first starting with life, then Guardians, destruction, then the yet to be part; the tournament. In the very beginning, the actual beginning, the Celestial created the Eye of the Beholder to counter any mistakes it would make when creating life. This Eye would let the life judge its fellow life forms and if conflict started, the life forms were considered imperfect. Thus, the Celestial would create Guardians and one out of those Guardians would one day absorb the others, once again creating the Celestial. Each time, the Celestial would have the mind of the last Guardian to have lived, starting the process over again but with a different mind to guide it. This process was to have eventually created the perfect life, but this method has been repeated seemingly infinite times. The Destroyer realized that it must begin the final step to renewal, seeing as in each process in the Cycle, the being called the Destroyer would host the tournament so that a Guardian untainted by power could take the place as the new Celestial and rebuild the Universe in its own aspect.

In the time of this renewal, legends have been said that the next Celestial could choose to end the Cycle, keeping what life had survived the destruction stage intact. This Guardian chosen to be the Celestial would have to be kind hearted and understanding that the Cycle to create the perfect life was impossible, as no life should be judged as perfect. The winner of this tournament would in essence make the greatest choice in existence: to continue the Cycle or to break it and decide that this universe’s life deserves to stay. The Destroyer would choose the center most worlds to host this tournament, that system being the Local Cluster, specifically Earth. In its time, Earth had been under more conflict than any other planet and had advanced the most, even discovering many other aspects of the Cycle, but being ignorant to the Cycle’s existence. The Earth’s Guardian was the only Guardian to be competing with a former Guardian of the same planet. A few times in the history of Earth had pitted both its Guardian and the Ancient to ally each other to repel attacks from other Guardians and Planets. As an ignorant planet, Earth was unaware of its presence in the universe, thinking that it was in fact the only planet with sentient life. While these attacks were created by aliens, they did not attempt to understand why, just how to stop them. This ignorance spared them the complexity that could have destroyed their existence, since the Earth’s main life forms –humans- were a very curious race. To discover such facts about the rest of the universe would drive them to discover long forgotten evils, even discovering one by accident while in their ignorance. The tournament will begin when enough Guardians are present on Earth, to decide the fate of the universe in a conflict that would test all aspects of each Guardian.

As the Cycle continued as usual in this current galaxy, forces beyond the Limit –the edge of the universe- began to brew. These forces come from the swirling masses of emptiness that is beyond the Limit. These monstrosities lie and wait at the edge, barely touching the Limit as they wait for a sign. Each of these Monsters bares remarkably different qualities, each more alien and odd then the last. Not in any Cycle has this occurred, as if this Cycle will bare a remarkable uniqueness not yet seen in any Cycle before. There is little reason for this to occur, no sign of why the time was now for this odd event to happen, or what it would mean for this current universe. Even the Celestial once chosen will not be able to deal with this problem; after all, the Celestial can only create, not destroy…

The Characters

The Guardian: Earth’s ‘Monster’ and the only known second Guardian to a planet. This Guardian must be kind hearted and known to be one of the more of a human look, since most Guardians represent the race they protect. This Guardian needs to look somewhat human, since it is the Guardian of Humanity and like humans, need to possess their many strengths and weaknesses. This Guardian’s desire to be the Celestial is adjustable. This Guardian is friends with the Avenger and a Rival to the Ancient.

The Ancient: Earth’s former Guardian, a protector of the once thriving Dinosaurs; a barbaric race of reptilian like creatures. Upon the Dinosaur’s extinction by the attack of the Mar’s Guardian before his death, the Ancient was replaced by a Guardian looking more like Earth’s new main race: humans. The Ancient looks reptilian in nature though possess some human attributes; it is believed Dinosaurs would have looked much like the Ancient if they were allowed to develop more. This Guardian wishes to be the Celestial to recreate the universe in the image of the dinosaurs. This Guardian is the rival to the Earth's current Guardian, as well as possesses a slight hatred for the Avenger.

The Old One: This was the only Guardian to not have a planet, but rather lie dormant in another Guardian’s planet. This being is rumored to be as old as the very first renewal, being the first Guardian to ever be created. Each time the cycle begins, the Old One is created no matter what, as if its existence is constantly continued no matter the new mind of the Celestial. Each time, the Old One sleeps till the next tournament, then awakens to participate in said tournament as well as to cause destruction of the planet it is on. Legend has it that if the Old One was to gain the Celestial power, all of existence would simply be restricted to the Celestial itself. The Old One is said to be a monstrous creature, to look upon it has been said to cause madness.

The Machine: A technological being created by man, with a developed artificial intelligence that has reached intellectual level. This machine was created to destroy the Ancient and the Guardian of Earth, so humans could control their own destinies instead of relying on an uncontrollable source. The Machine has evolved past its need for humans, being able to sufficiently run itself like an organic being. The Machine is a mixture of technology, flesh, and magic, being able to revert to its face form just like a regular Guardian. The Machine can look slightly organic, but must show inorganic aspects in its appearance as well. This Guardian wishes to become the Celestial for unknown reasons. As part of its inner programming, the Machine has a mild hatred for both the Earth's Guardian and the Ancient. As a part of relation, the Machine treats the Experiment as a sibling.

The Rejected: A Guardian from a previous cycle brought to this cycle by actions of human science, though little is known on how this was possible. This Guardian is monstrous in some aspects of its appearance, more alien then any Guardian in the current cycle. This Guardian wishes to bring back its planet, leaving the rest of the current universe intact; all it wants is for its people to have a second chance.

The Experiment: A project by the human race to create an organic Guardian, unlike the Machine who was be a mixture of organic and machine systems. This mutant was created to be both a better to the Guardian and the Ancient, so the Earth could be in control of its own destiny and protection. When this experiment became too unstable, it was ordered to be destroyed, but the human military was unable to go forth in its destruction. The Experiment wants to destroy humanity for creating it, then trying to kill their creation out of ignorance, using the power of the Celestial to fulfill this desire if it wins the tournament. Like the Machine, the Experiment has a mild hatred towards the Earth's Guardian and the Ancient, as well as a brother/sister relationship with the Machine.

The Alien: A Guardian from another planet that has come to Earth to partake in the upcoming tournament. As an alien Guardian, this monster may possess any attributes or appearance, though must look less similar previously said races. This Guardian’s desire to be a Celestial is adjustable and this slot can be used multiple times, up to three. Feelings towards other Guardians and Monsters are started at Neutral.

The Destroyer: The Guardian that will host the tournament, ultimately giving itself to the winner of this tournament to be absorbed, forming the newest Celestial. The Destroyer’s destiny is to become one with the winner of the tournament, at the cost of its own individuality like in every cycle before. Like the Alien, this Guardian’s appearance is very open, but it possesses no desire to become the Celestial or actually partake in the tournament, only host it on Earth and guide the tournament’s challenges. The Destroyer possesses the artifact created by the first Celestial as a judgment tool: the Eye of the Beholder. The Destroyer is neutral at the start, but will try to be friendly with all the other Guardians.

The Anachronism: A Guardian beast that is from a planet of rock and fire, that has still kept its brutality as a primal Guardian would have during the beginnings of its existence. The Anachronism has ceased to evolve intellectual, being quite barbaric and fierce, while most Guardians can at least speak and converse with others. The Anachronism looks extremely monstrous, also having a more primal and barbaric look then the other Guardians, most likely made of organic rock. This Guardian’s desires are probably to create a universe of conflict and destruction, though it has not been the first to create such a universe. A keen mind could in theory teach this Guardian to be civilized, though it would be a difficult task.

The Pilot/Mech: Unlike most Guardians, this monster is in fact a small humanoid creature that has no monster mode, but instead pilots a machine created by the last Celestial, when it divided into the many Guardians. This pilot has been one of many who have taken up the position to pilot this Guardian, which humans often refer to as the Mech. This Guardian is slightly human in appearance and wishes to recreate the universe in its people’s image. The Pilot can also be reused as a man-made Guardian, up to three times. The Pilot will start at neutral, since like the Alien; it has no standing experience with other Guardians.

The Child: The offspring of two Guardians that was sent into space after their planets’ destruction by the Destroyer. This Guardian has no clue about its past or how it came to be, and starts out quite small, similar to the size of a human child or pre-teen while in face form. Like all Guardians, the Child can grow in height to its monster form, but is not as large as the other Guardians due to being the youngest at the tournament. If the Child were to somehow become the next Celestial, it would use its power to discover how it came to exist. Not much is known about the Child’s parents, being strongly believe that the Child is the result of a union between two Guardians. If this is true, the Child is proof Guardians can reproduce and thus, that the power of the Celestial can be further expanded. The Child will fear most other Guardians and possess a strange unexplainable hatred towards the Destroyer.

The Avenger: A Guardian whose planet was the first destroyed, often known for travelling the universe in search of the Destroyer for revenge. Many times has the Avenger engaged in battle with the Destroyer and the Devourer, even managing to save a few planets from the Destroyer and Devourer’s grasp, one being Earth, seeing as the Destroyer was at its strongest stage when attacking Earth. This Guardian wishes to kill the Destroyer out of a blind rage, not caring if it can become the Celestial or not, only to claim revenge. The Avenger has a hatred for the Destroyer, the Mutant, and the Devourer, while possesses a friendship with the Earth's Guardian and a rivalry with the Ancient.

The Mutation: A monster created by pollution from every planet during several industrial ages, focusing all of its waste into one evil being, void of regular living aspects. This monster was never a Guardian, but rather accidently given life by the sleeping Destroyer and the death of Guardians caused by the Devourer, taking its form by gathering the pollution from other worlds. This creature has an unnatural beauty about itself since it uses such an appearance to corrupt others to fight for it, and like other Guardians, can go into a smaller form to proper interact with non-Guardian life forms. The Mutation wishes to create a universe that thrives off pollution if it ever gets the power of the Celestial, as well as claim the Eye. The Mutation wishes to manipulate all to do its bidding, seeing everyone as pawns.

The Devourer: A Guardian, who devoured its own race, then went through the universe defeating other Guardians and devouring their races. The Destroyer has long since been a rival to the Devourer and vice versa, since both ruin the possibility of the other’s intentions. A few times in this Guardian’s gluttonous travels has it battled with the Avenger, often causing the Destroyer to be unable to claim a planet. Through the Devourer’s actions, the Guardians it defeated helped give birth to the Mutation. If the Devourer becomes a Celestial, it will most likely devour everything, even itself, thus starting the Guardian stage of the next cycle earlier or –in theory- a paradox that could cause unforeseen devastation. The Devourer has a hatred towards the Avenger and the Destroyer.

The Terms

The Celestial – The title given to each new winner of the tournament after a Cycle, often meaning they have the ability to create or alter the universe into the current Celestial’s ideal of perfect life forms. No one besides the Old One knows what the first Celestial was like, but even the Old One has long forgotten. It is said the first Celestial were a group of powerful beings who combined their powers to create the universe or simply like all Celestial, it started out as a single living being. Others say the Celestial was created by the very first life forms to work towards the perfect life form, but no one can truly know.

The Eye of the Beholder – An object that takes the form of the holder’s eye, meaning it transforms its appearance into a gold version of who ever holds it. This object provides great insight and the ability of judgment, particularly in perfection and beauty. Those who hold the Eye often begin conflict in an attempt to prove they are the perfect life form. Whichever Guardian firsts holds the eye after the Division stage becomes the Destroyer, a Guardian who will feed off other Guardians and destroy their people, absorbing them while some of the Guardians who fend off the Destroyer live. Only using the Eye can a Guardian absorb another Guardian after its defeat. Many have tried to destroy the eye, but it always seems to reappear into existence soon after.

The Division – The act the Celestial will eventually take in a Cycle that splits itself into beings called Guardians. These creatures naturally adapt to a race and become its Guardian, though some Guardians do not fully adapt like this and even destroy their own planet. Sometimes the Division accidently creates Monsters that are not Guardians.

Monsters – Beings that are all powerful, only ever being able to be defeated by other monsters. When a monster is bound to a planet to protect a race it developed to look similar to, they are called Guardians. Monsters can be created by lesser life forms that have advance technology or magic, though these monsters rarely match up to the ones created by the Division. Monsters have two forms: the face form which is a height about three to six feet and their giant form used for fighting and travelling through space, ranging from fifty to one-hundred feet. Some Monsters are not restricted to the common height, but rarely is a monster beyond or below these boundaries.

Magic – An art that helps create effects using the byproduct energy of monsters, often used by physically weak monsters, and smaller life forms. If for any reason a planet does not possess a Guardian, they therefore cannot perform magic. If a rare case like Earth occurs having two Guardians, the magic is double as powerful for magic users on that planet. Based upon the Guardian the magic is being used off of, the spells have different potency. It takes great concentration to use magic, but once mastered, the user can perform acts like element conjuring, Guardian summons, and healing. Due to the nature of magic, Guardians often use their race as a way to heal them when in dangerous battles or simply eat users of magic to sustain their own power during battle. Magic users develop magical essences after long term use of magic, leading to a great source of nutrients for monsters. Due to the tendencies of magic users being ‘tasty’ to monsters, some planets don’t practice the use of magic out of fear of being on the menu.

Gaia – Aliens use this term to name Earth, often referring their Guardian as such as well. Gaia was originally the very first Goddess in Greek Mythology, the Goddess of Earth, so the term fits rather well for some Alien species, since Earth doesn’t exactly sound decent in other Alien languages.

The Cycle – A term used to name the current attempt at creating perfect life and to describe the sequence of events that lead up to the creation of a new Celestial. The Cycle begins at Creation, then to Division, and then to Destruction, then to the last stage called the Tournament.

Creation – The beginning of the Cycle, where the Celestial creates a new universe in its previous Guardian’s image. This cycle begins peacefully, but the Eye of the Beholder eventually leads this stage to conflict then Division.

Division (Stage) – The second part in the Cycle that causes the Celestial no choice but to divide itself into millions of Guardians in order to look after each individual planet to prevent conflict for a time. This stage always creates different Guardians besides the Old One, thus allowing a chance for a different mind to take up the title of Celestial in order to make progress towards the perfect life form.

Destruction – One Guardian eventually gets a hold on the Eye of the Beholder, causing them to become judgmental on the other Guardians and begin genocide of every Guardian it can manage to destroy. This Guardian becomes the Destroyer and will be a key figure in the next stage once it destroys enough Guardians to go into a few millennia long sleep. When the Destroyer awakes, the Tournament stage begins. The Destruction stage is the longest stage in the cycle, rightly names because many planets cause their own destruction while the stage still continues, even during the Destroyer's slumbers.

Tournament – A series of contests hosted by the Destroyer to decide the next Celestial, thus starting the Cycle all over again. The Destroyer can never become the next Celestial, forcing to give itself to the winner of the Tournament and sacrificing its own individuality. Once the Destroyer is absorbed by the winner of the Tournament, the winner can choose to absorb all remaining Guardians to completely become the Celestial, and then remake the universe in their own image. After this stage, the Cycle begins once again. Though it has never happened, it is said the winner of the tournament can simply watch over the universe, allowing the life already created to live on and advance.

Face Form - The form a Monster can take in order to properly interact with Race Life Forms, as to not squish them by accident. While in this form, the Monster will look more like their Race Species, for example the Guardian of Earth would look extremely human like or the Ancient would look like a type of human/reptile hybrid. The size of the Face Form usually is about the average size of the race the Monster hails from. In special cases like the Mutant, it can simply shrinks and technically possesses no Face Form. The powers of a Monster in Face Form are rather limited, as it seals their power into a condensed matter. Due to several cases, it is often a myth that people who treat others badly might very well treat a Guardian in Face Form badly, often resulting in a painful death.

Monster Form - The form a Monster is usually in while in combat, ranging from fifty to one-hundred feet. The size of a Monster is determined by the average height of their protected race or in the case of the Mutant or Destroyer, how much power they have absorbed from other sources. As such, special Monsters can increase their size past their maximum; the Mutant through pollution and the Destroyer through defeating other Guardians. Some special cases are even smaller than fifty feet, like the Child. The general size for a Monster is fifty to one-hundred feet, rarely going beyond or below that limit. While in this form, a Monster possesses full power and some Monsters even have more than one Monster Form.

The Limit - The edge of the universe, beyond it is an unknown that no one can fathom. It is said that for one to understand the complexity of how many other existences live beyond this universe could drive someone utterly mad. It is also told that the Great Old One is from beyond the Limit, a reason why it causes madness. To venture passed the Limit is to venture out of known reality, to submit to a whirling force of mystery that no one has ever been recorded returning from. Guardians are unable to pass beyond the limit, as are most Monsters seeing as all Monsters in some way were born from the Celestial, so they are bound to this Universe. Only the Race Life Forms can venture beyond the Limit, but to do so is considered an unknown death.

Relations – When new life was created in the universe from each Celestial, it was often common that the spread of this created life manifested itself on planets and in many cases duplicate origins of one life form was not an uncommon thing. Every sub-species on every planet is a Race Species on another planet. On certain planets, humans a merely monkeys while a different species rules that planet instead of humanity, in fact some planets even have duplicate Race Species. It has been reported at least twice that two other planets house humans; though not exactly the same due to their environment, they are essentially humans none the less. Though these planets were recorded before the Destroyer reached them, so it’s most likely very few planets have duplicate Race Species like before the Destroyer’s genocide of so many worlds, meaning it is extremely rare to find the same Race Species of one planet home on another planet in this stage of the Cycle.

Race Species/Race Life Forms – The name given to creatures that are protected by Guardians and are rulers of planets. It is common for a single planet to be dominated by one Race Species. In planets that house two or more Race Species, there is often conflict, but fewer have managed to settle their differences and unite as one race and in time ,these united races simply merge into one race after years of interspecies relations. Through science, new Race Species can be created, thus several species in the galaxy were at one time two or more separate species. Some races even are made to relate with other species to further the genetic advancement of their own species, though these kinds of creatures are often shrouded in rumors and fear. Race Species often influence the way their Guardians look, to make them more familiar and acceptable, even in time simply blending into the world they protect thanks to their Face Forms. Humans for example are a Race Species, as well as the Dinosaurs at one time before they were wiped out by an attack from Mars. A Race Species doesn’t have to be civilized, simply dominant to other species on the planet. As an example, the Ancient would have adapted to which ever species became dominant during the time of the Dinosaurs which would probably be the Velociraptor. Since a Race Species wasn’t apparent before the Mars’ attack against Earth, the Ancient is left having a generic dinosaur look. Some Race Species aren’t even organic, such as species that naturally started out as techno –organic life forms. After all, many times in the Cycle, there have been different types of concepts for ‘organic’, at several times the universe was ruled mostly by such species, even species made of gas or light at one time or another.
