Honestly, HOW did Twilight ever get published? The world may never know, but let us, in the meantime, have fun by making joke speculations at to why?
One theory: The publishers felt sorry for Stephenie Meyer.

She sent the book out dozens of times. That's how. If you keep throwing the same worm back into the lake one fish is bound to bite it. I believe she sent it to over eight different publishing companies at once to boot.
