SCENARIO
Jianyu literally "ran into" Bataar in Main Street.
Bataar takes offense at this.

They had moved into an alleyway a few streets down from Main Street. Here there were a few empty houses that had not had residents yet, and the rapidly darkening sky made it difficult for Jianyu to see clearly. It made him a tad uneasy, but the streets around them had grown quieter, more deserted as those around them went back to their homes for the evening. But Jianyu was quite awake, and more importantly, he was ready and determined to go up against this Noble, this Bataar.

Drawing his bow, Jianyu slid the arrow in his hand against the smooth wood of the bow, pulling back the string. He trained it on Bataar, standing a few yards in front of him. The last rays of sunlight were still enough to give him a clear shot.

"Dodge if you can, Noble." Jianyu said, and let go of the arrow.

Bataar had gone along to the dark alleyway and was now hardly even distracted by the subtle skittering of rats' claws in the shadows. He felt adrenaline pump through his blood as he observed Jianyu who, in Bat's opinion, looked equally excited. Still, there was a serious problem with this fight; Bat didn't have any sort of weapon on him. As an archer himself, the Mongol was well aware that Jianyu had an immense advantage against him. He certainly didn't stand a chance with an arrow through his chest.

He moved into a defensive stance, gritting his teeth as he watched Jianyu pull back the bowstring; he could see that the other Lunarian had experience and was beginning to grow quite uncomfortable with the situation at hand. Mabe he could dodge.

"Just try and shoot me, priss." Empty words from a man who was choosing to remain motionless.

The arrow had missed, whipping past Jianyu's shoulder-length hair and coming within an inch of Bataar's face as it cracked against the stone wall behind him. Jianyu lowered his bow, raising an eyebrow. Truth be told, he was slightly surprised that the Noble had not dodged or moved in any way when facing his bow and arrow. He had not expected him to stand perfectly still, and at the last second, Jianyu had moved his bow a fraction of an inch to the left to avoid a fatal blow to the other man's forehead.

"I missed you purposely." Jianyu said, as he reached for another arrow. "I suppose it's unfair of me to have a weapon when you do not, but I am not quite adept at fighting hand-to-hand, as you may have guessed."

Jianyu strung the arrow, pulling the thin string back as he pointed it towards Bataar again.

"But I will not miss again."

Uh oh. Bataar's strategy(or lack thereof) had clearly not worked out. He'd seen the small jerk of the bow and it had made him altogether uncomfortable, but he supposed it was as he'd assumed earlier; Jianyu didn't quite intend to kill him. Not yet, at least. It was possible that the next blow the archer planned would wound the maroon Lunarian and he wasn't willing to risk his life on the idea that Jianyu was too much of a wimp to kill him anymore.

"Pff. Useless without the aid of your weapon, I see." The Mongol declared haughtily, unable to hold his tongue despite his blatant disadvantage.

He tensed, ready to dodge this time; it looked as if the other really did intend a hit by now.

"I beg to differ." Bataar spat although he knew full well that the other student's claim might very well be credible.

Jianyu's face went red at the comment, but he tried not to let his irritation show. He did not like showing emotion, especially not at a moment such as this when he was fighting against a Noble. Emotions clouded one's ability to fight well, caused mistakes and messes that made a person lose their focus. He was not one of those Legions who got carried away with their feelings and lost in battle because of it. He was not weak like they were.

So it did not make him any more confident that he was now embarrassed by Bataar's comment about him being useless. Especially since he knew that the statement was true, and it made him more angry at the Noble for recognizing the fact.

"Dodge if you can, then." Jianyu snarled, letting the arrow go. He had aimed low, though, and it was directed at one of Bataar's legs.

Bataar grinned as he spotted Jianyu's outrage and threw a number of small taunts at the other academy student, none that were important enough to really take note of. It was classic Bat to be so chatty during a fight, after all. He could hardly help himself; sometimes he could be kind of full of it.

"You wouldn't stand a chance without your bow, weakling." By now it was clear that the maroon Lunarian was enjoying himself despite the impending threat that the bow and arrow of Jianyu's posed. He'd be in some serious trouble if he kept talking and was caught off guard, but he was amusing himself.

He grinned as Jianyu told him to dodge, expecting a higher shot as he next spoke. "Sure thing, pipsquea--" A sudden moan of pain escaped his lips as the arrow hit his leg, embedding itself just slightly; it wasn't enough to cause any major damage, but it was sure as hell painful.

Jianyu had not expected the arrow to hit.

He had expected Bataar to dodge it, to move out of the way. But the Noble had been taunting him, tossing insults in his face, and his obvious need to be spiteful had distracted him enough that the arrow had penetrated his left leg.

Instantly a thick red liquid coated the other Lunarian's leg, turning his maroon skin darker. Jianyu could smell the coppery, metallic scent of the blood and it startled him. His face flushed, the shock that his arrow had actually hit its target making him sway unsteadily on his feet. He stumbled forward awkwardly, as if automatically reaching out to assist the wounded man.

He was losing his objective. He needed to focus. His arrow had hit. It was supposed to be a good thing. a victory.

So why did he feel so nauseated at the sight of the blood?

Bataar hissed in pain, leaning down to tug the arrow out of his now-injured leg and leveling the Legioneer across from him with an outraged glare. That was it. The time for fun and games had ended the minute the arrow had hit and made its mark. If he was stuck with a limp for any amount of time he would be pissed.

The Mongol was hardly concerned with the profuse amount of blood; in fact, he was more concerned that there was a hole in his one and only pair of pants and that he might not be able to wash all of the blood out. Now that would make Bat really angry.

"You little..." Bat trailed off, advancing towards Jianyu with a slight limp and roughly snatching away his bow and quiver to cast them to the ground. Any verbage was now unecessary; he refused to spare Jianyu his anger now.

The maroon Lunarian aimed a hard punch at Jianyu's chest, hoping it would hit its mark. The Legioneer surely deserved a few painful bruises; maybe even a broken rib or two if Bataar decided his leg particularly hurt in the next few minutes.

He'd been too distracted.

His bow and arrow tossed to the ground, Bataar's fist collided with Jianyu's chest hard and fast. He let out a grunt of pain and surprise, collapsing backwards onto the cobblestone street beneath him. His palms scraped the rough landing, and he coughed, his chest heaving for air.

Now weapon-less, Jianyu had no choice but to fight without one. He aimed a kick upwards, connecting his foot with Bataar's stomach, hoping it would at least wind the Noble enough so that he could move away.

Bataar looked rather pleased after he'd land the punch and grinned savagely down at Jianyu, enjoying the rush he'd gotten from punching the Legioneer square in the chest. He grunted, stumbling back a little once the other Lunarian had kicked him in the stomach, looking slightly winded.

He glanced down and his eye was momentarily caught by the beginnings of a crimson pool on the ground; it was his blood. Bat may have been stupid in all sorts of ways, but he was smart enough to know that if he lost much more blood he'd be in quite a bit of trouble; his mother Odval had taught him that much. He cursed, backing further away from Jianyu.

"I'll kick your a** later, pipsqueak." Bat declared, glaring flatly down at the Legioneer before turning on his good heeling and trotting away as best he could with the slight limp the pain in his leg was causing him. Damn it. He hadn't won. He'd almost lost, but he sure as hell hadn't won this time around. He'd have to try for revenge at some point; the Mongol was sure to be pleased if he ever managed to beat the hell out of Jianyu.

It was difficult to breathe. The punch from Bataar had knocked him flat on his back, and though he had managed to score a good, solid kick to Bataar's stomach, the Noble had backed off, looking at him with a look of disdain.

Then he had walked off, dripping a bloody path behind him. Jianyu lay there on the ground, coughing, a hand pressed against his chest, which was most likely bruised from the heavy hit. Staggering to his feet, Jianyu hobbled over to where his bow and arrow lay, reaching down to painfully pick up his weapon.

Next time...

Jianyu swiped a hand through his damp hair, a bit sweaty from his nerves and exertion, though it had not been a long fight at all. He knew it wasn't the last he'd seen of the Noble named Bataar, but next time he would be ready. More prepared, and not distracted by his emotions.

Next time he would win.
