internet2 - created by google. Internet 2 will be something like this:
You can't access the internet without a subscription to any given ISP. They want to know who you are when you log on to use the internet (goodbye being anonymous). Once you have that access you will be given a monthly subscription to a FEW popular websites and everything else will be PAY to CLICK. Your bandwidth would be limited to 1G of downloads and 50MG of uploads. All of those who like to surf and download or even game... to bad. If you want to access gaming bandwidth you need to pay extra for the "gaming" package in addition to your access to the initial package everyone gets upon subscription. Furthermore, this would mean almost all small websites would disappear, as no one will want to pay to go there and they wont be able to afford to keep the site running. Also, anything you post online, you will be accountable for, and they can remove anything that displeases them. So goodbye freedom of speech and goodbye knowledge that they don't want you to learn.

If they actually go on such a huge mission, and it works, I will be very surprised. So will everyone else: prepare for mass riots.
I will just not get internet if that happens. Boycott! We just have to get enough people to stop using the internet IMMEDIATELY after this happens. It will make the Internet2 not profitable.
What exactly can we do to prevent this, anyway?

What exactly can we do to prevent this, anyway? spread awareness of it, so if any talk of it begins, it will immediately be put to a stop and be refused. i don't believe a boycott would work (because not enough people would be willing to boycott). how many people are going to just stop using facebook or checking their email for a week+? of course those sites will still be cheap and accessible with internet version 2. so the sheepish americans might go ahead and let them do it. IMO this mostly effects people who actually use the internet to research. the average american only uses the internet for fun and communication and wont be as greatly affected.

Ah, yes... I almost forgot the effects this would have for people seeking information. Eliminating all semi-neutral articles, as well as articles that are biased against the government's positions, would be a HUGE problem.
How do you suggest we spread awareness beyond a small guild?
Although, it should be stated, facebook doesn't delete many groups. They do some, but still. Many websites, such as facebook, have for a long time been a place for people who cannot afford their own websites to post their opinions... and information.
Only problem is that facebook has rules, and many innocent groups are disbanded under corrupt management. I wonder if this will increase in Internet 2...

people spread awareness on yahoo answers, youtube, facebook, journals and blogs, or you can be brave (i'm not) and go out into the real world and pass out (or put on windshields - in parking lots to grocery stores, walmarts, libraries, schools, colleges, movie theaters etc.) little business cards telling them to research the topics in this guild.

I suppose... I just watched the "CIA owns facebook" video. It seems to be complaining about statistical data being collected, and I wonder why that would be a problem? So what if companies know how many female conservatives there are, or how many African Americans who like Eminem, or what percentage of teenagers play Call of Duty?

So what if companies know how many female conservatives there are, or how many African Americans who like Eminem, or what percentage of teenagers play Call of Duty? That video is useless, it has no evidence behind it, it says how the teen who started facebook, is Working for CIA, when actually he is not, he only works for facebook.
