Personally, i think it all depends on the person, not their diet.
I'm vegetarian, and yes i do care about the environment, but i'm not a "Hippy" ninja
Discuss.

For every animal you don't eat, I'm going to eat three.

If you were only trying to bug me, just so you know i have no problem with others eating animals. I'm the only vegetarian in my family XD

One of my good friends and my x best friend is a vegetarian. I think it's just a diet, but vegans... that is come crazy bullschitt.

Note:
Difference Between Vegetarians and Vegans.
Vegetarians: Just won't eat meat.
Vegans: Refuses to eat or drink any animal by-product (cheese, milk, etc.)

It depends why the person has chosen to be a vegetarian.
If the person just truly does not enjoy any flavor of meat, then I say it's a diet.
If the person is doing it because of some excuse like animal cruelty, then I say they're a crazy hippie because not all animals that go into slaughter are treated poorly.
If you abuse the animal you ruin the meat, so why abuse it?

And as Kamihara said, Vegans are just flat out crazy.
If you don't milk a cow you can actually harm it.
So drinking milk is perfectly okay.
It doesn't hurt the animal!
I promise!
Yes they strap instruments onto the animal to harvest milk but if it hurts, then why don't the animals react to it as they always do?

I'm a vegetarian.

I've got to say, some people are very misguided about this diet choice. Yes, it is true that most animals going into slaughter houses today are abused in their previous homes. I believe that this is wrong. And, before I continue, please do not quote this post and say that I'm against people who eat meat. If I was, I would be against most of the population. And I'm not.

Do not say that being a vegetarian has no effect. It does. If you have been taught economics then you know how demand on the market works. If there is low demand on meat, then less will be produced to feed people. I realize that one person being a vegetarian does not mean that animals will stop being killed.

Now, about vegans. I am jealous that they have so much self control, but I could never be one. No one pries me away from my ice cream! However, being a vegan is also beneficial to humane animal farming. Although animals are not killed to produce the particular food, many die in the process of giving milk and eggs. Chickens are given electrical shocks to scare them into laying eggs faster. Dairy cows are more awfully mistreated then cows used for meat. They often live in a foot of their own waste, and are milked with unsanitary equipment that spread infections. Most die at an early age.

Basically, the reason I'm a vegetarian is because I'm lazy. There are places to get meat where the animals are free range. But when I'm at a restraunt, most waiters can not tell me where the meat comes from. Same situation if I'm at a dinner party. So I choose not eating meat as a precaution.

Eating meat is healthy. Believe me, I know people have been doing it for thousands of years. But never before the twentieth century have animals been treated so awfully.

I'm a semi-vegetarian, sort of.
My mom forces me to eat meat sometimes to get protein, so about twice a week I eat meat. And when I do eat meat, it's not much. Maybe 10 bites. And I don't even LIKE most meat. It tastes wrong and bad. D=

I get most of my protein from cheese or other foods with protein added to it.

@Immortality: I applaud you for being more aware than most vegetarians I know.
I only have one rebuttal though against your argument for the animal cruelty issue.

When you abuse the animal, you do damage to it and the products.
No one wants to buy damaged meat, so why abuse the animal before slaughter?
And as for the dairy cows: why treat them so poorly if they die so quickly?
It's a waste of money handling them like that.
If you have to buy new animals every couple of years you're just throwing away money.

I grow up on a farm myself.
We raise and slaughter lambs (and before anyone can troll when I say lambs I mean sheep. They are not freshly born skin and bone lambs, they're about a year old, loudly, annoying, and fat.)
If I know anything I know it's a waste of time and money abusing your product.
You end up losing more money through abuse than just raising the animal as it should be.
So the argument of abuse is illogical to me.

I know some people still do it, but go do some research for us.
Do those abusive companies last long?
Do they have a high income?
Where are those abusive companies at anyway?
And what are the laws of their area/country?

Ok time for my two cents.
I read every single one of your posts lol and I gotta say you all have some lovley opinions.
Ièm a vegetarian but for no other reason other then I personally hate red meat ... and chicken meat and pork ... but seafood
NOM NOM NOM!!!!
Anyways I think everyone is going to have their own reasons for this type of diet, I just hate it when people go into this kind of diet not understanding what they are in for.
Guys and Gals who are a vegetarians, you better be doing your homework.
The single most important thing about being a vegetarian is knowing how to get the right stuff. Did you know that theres a complete protein in meat you can't get in basically anything else except for one thing.
Thats a mixture of rice and corn.
Look at that you are already learning here!
There are so many choices out there for you to cook into regular everyday dishes, but you have to be willing to do your homework
please for your own sake look into it and find out some good vegetarian recipes.
If you don't ... well I'll come to your house ... and beat you up, and I'll bring m chickens with me, and they peck harder then you'd expect from lil guy- girls!

It depends on why they are.

If it's like, say...Lisa Simpson, no. I don't agree with that one. (For those not aware of Simpsons-some are, I'm sure-she refused to after visiting a petting zoo). Animals eat animals in the wild, sometimes even newly borns are killed. There's nothing wrong with eating meat. We may feel compassion and have a better thought-process than other animals, but we're still animals and doing the same thing as a lion in the savanna.

If it's for cruelty...that's a vague topic. And I don't want to give an opinion since I don't know the research on it. I can understand people not wanting to eat it because of how some animals are treated. It's a reason I won't touch Veal after hearing what it was in college. I'd feel bad. You should also try and get your facts straight instead of jumping to conclusions the minute you see a bad documentary.

If it's a dislike of meat, all for. o: You can't help what your taste buds like. I'm more a vegetable eater, myself. I'll have one or two pieces of turkey at dinners and heap the rest of my plate in potatoes, carrots, and turnips.
I'm a true blue Newfie. I prefer fish over meat. <3

@RGI: They choose to abuse animals knowing that it can affect the humans eating it. Studies have shown that giving animals steroids to make them grow faster can have the same effect on humans (especially females). They simply don't care. they make more money this way, because they pump animals out faster. Quality is not an issue to them, money is.

These companies do last long. And they are some of the most popular. As of 2005, four companies controlled the processing of over 80% of the country's beef and three of these same four companies (along with an additional fourth) process over 60% of the country's pork. All four companies have expressed that they do not treat their animals as humanly as they should. Undercover footage (taken by the Humane Society) reveals they are lying. There is NO humanity whatsoever in how they are treating their animals. The top four companies are the same as of 2009.

I think I just explained they have VERY high income. Most of their money comes from fast food chains: McDonalds, Taco Bell, Wendy's, Burger King, and more.

Kansas and surrounding states.

Very few. Many people aren't aware of what is happening, and if it brought to their attention they discard it. Because they love meat.

Hope that answers your questions.

Well I'm a carnivore and I get all this crap from vegetarians but I think it's just a diet but yes vegans are freakin' crazy! One stalked me because I eat only animals!

And I love animals and hate how the slaughter house treats them but I don't think that there's anything you can do about it. Besides I for one, believe that eating an animal is respecting it.

Just because you had a bad experience with ONE vegan, does not mean they're all crazy. That's a stereotype. neutral
