情報 - Information
As you can tell this is a Touhou RolePlay, led by Sable Argent and I. My plans for it are somewhat extensive, but for the most part, the easiest way to describe it will be multi-arc. This, as it implies, means I will be doing multiple story arcs, each one may have anywhere between no relation (Other than being Canon), and absolute reliance on other arcs.
As far as characters are concerned, while I'm all for you creating Originals, I am honestly more intent on making sure Canon characters are getting played, and accurately at that. So PLEASE, if you have ANY INTEREST WHATSOEVER in any of the Canon characters, apply for them.
Also note, that this RP is set roughly 10 years in the future of the games. This means Reimu and Marisa are in their late 20s, and most of the other characters have no notable age difference. However, this does mean you are free to take MINOR liberties with the characters. You're welcome to change small bits of of their personality that you think may have developed more, or changed some over the past decade since the games, as well as have them develop new Spellcards and skills.
Also, there are some Japanese words that will be used consistently. You may know some, but I will list them all just in case.
KEYWORDS Youkai - demon, typically taking a human-like form. Miko - Shrine Maiden Danmaku - Curtain fire, usually slow moving with pattern in the arrangement of bullets. Shikigami - Think summon, except kinda like a slave, but treated very well. Basically, they enter a contract of servitude with their master, and from then on, can basically be summoned. They must obey and serve their master, but are typically treated very well. Another parallel that can be drawn is a wizard's Familiar. Sake - Alcohol, typically rice-wine.
And with that, Let's get going!

規則 - Rules
arrow 1: Obviously, obey Gaia ToS. I will allow above PG-13, but only in reference, no detail nor actually acting anything of the sort out.
arrow 2: Stay Semi-lit. 2 or 3 liners are fine, as long as they are written with proper grammar, have minimal typos, and express enough to be replied to.
arrow 3: Limit OoC. I don't mind an occasional "((Is this okay?))" or other RP related OoC questions, just don't get out of hand. arrow arrow a) Please DO use OoC to convey if things that may seem like Godmodding have been okayed before hand by all people involved.
arrow 4: I know it's hard with a series like Touhou, but AVOID GODMODDING. I realize around a fourth to a third of the Canons are complete hax, but please try not to let it get out of hand.
arrow 5: Post applications in the non-KH Audition thread, and wait to be okayed before posting them in the profile thread.
arrow 6: Be nice, both in and out of character. Remember, most of these characters, despite seeming harsh, actually get along quite well. arrow arrow a) Accept criticism, especially when playing Canons. I probably know most of the characters better than most of you, and Sable knows all of them better than me. If I or especially Sable say you're too far out of character, please accept it, and try to fix it. We WILL be lenient with this, but don't push your luck if we are sure you're out of character too much. ALSO: Don't let this discourage you! This RP will need a lot of people playing Canon characters, so the more people applying, the better!
arrow 7: Special Powers/Abilities and any high level Artifacts/Weapons SHOULD BE unique. Weak rule, I know, but if you have something, try to make it different.
arrow 8: I can update this with new rules whenever, but I sincerely hope not to have to do so often, if ever.

質問 - Q&A
Here I will answer some commonly asked questions (Or that will possibly be common or become problems in the future).
Q: The game is 99% female, does this mean I have to make a female character? A: Have to? No. Strongly suggested, YES. I will not force everyone to make females, but I really want as many people as possible to do so.
Q: Can I make my character have a really dark past? A: Somewhat dark is fine. But getting past somewhat, and into pretty dark, is pushing it. Also, no matter how dark your past, your character should be at least somewhat upbeat and/or laid back.. Touhou is a very laid back and upbeat series, so try to avoid angst.
Q: Does this mean my character can't ever be unhappy? A: Of course not. I'm planning my fair share of drama in here. But we should remain upbeat MOST OF THE TIME.
Q: What kind of powers can I have? A: Whatever floats your boat, but follow the guideline that it isn't really powerful at the beginning. A good power will have low level, mid level, AND high level applications, and your character should start out with only low to mid level applications, but can learn the high level ones later.
Q: Can I get a second or third power/ability as the story progresses? A: Kind of, but mostly no. To be specific, you cannot gain completely new powers/abilities, but can develop the power your character started with into branching powers, and gain new applications for the power of increasingly hack-ey levels and/or loosely interpreted methods of applying your power.
Q: What if I start with no power, can I develop one later? A: Yes, if you have no power/ability besides basically Youkai/Oni level strength, you can develop one later. Magic however, counts as a Power/Ability, meaning you cannot develop more than that, merely branch out into other styles of Magic.
Q: How about developing Spellcards? A: I'd hope you develop new Spellcards over the course of the RP. I'm planning to end on a much higher level than where it started. So feel free to develop new spellcards at any time, THOUGH I WILL BE ANNOUNCING SPELLCARD LEVEL CAP RAISES.
Q: How about Artifacts? A: Try to keep the non-canon artifacts at a mid to low level. If you think of something awesome that could fit into the canon, feel free to talk to me, and we can arrange for your character to obtain it later.
Q: How many OCs and Canons can I have? A: As many as you want/can handle. Honestly, I'd prefer you take AT LEAST 3 Canon characters for every 2 Originals you make, but this isn't a hard rule. Just remember, we have a lot of Canons to cover.
Q: If the technology is mostly pre-Meiji what can I have? A: Nothing electronic. Only exceptions to this are the Yakumo family, and Nitori. Rinnosuke is half an exception, as he has the stuff, but no idea how to use it. Marisa's space heater is Magic-fuel powered, so that's not an exception. In summary, the only way to have something that most fiurst world countries use regularly, it needs to be explained via magic, or Yukari/Nitori's tampering, preferably NOT the latter.

歴史 - History
This post will summarize the main events leading to the Gensokyo that is here for the RP. BOLDED SECTIONS ARE THE REALLY IMPORTANT BITS.
HISTORY 16th century Yakumo Yukari separates off an inland section of Japan, and creates Gensokyo, the Land of Illusions. This was done for the purpose of creating a homeland of sorts for Youkai, as their side of the ancient balance between them and humans had started steadily decreasing, as humans had been growing in power with their advancements in technology and science.
Meiji Era - 1850 Yukari and the Hakurei clan erected the Hakurei Barrier, separating Gensokyo from the rest of Japan. This barrier relied on the power of the Hakurei Miko to remain intact. Remember, this means technology level is at mostly pre-Meiji period.
1997 A vampire attempted to take over Gensokyo forcibly, but was repelled by the Youkai and Hakurei Shrine Maiden of the time. The higher ups of Gensokyo, and the vampire entered a negotiation, in which they determined that the youkai, who might have been getting soft from the peace, needed a method to maintain a degree of conflict, and in addition, a way to defeat the Hakurei Miko without ill effects on the Hakurei barrier (Like the destruction of Gensokyo and stuff) was necessary. Thus, the Spellcard system was implemented. This system allowed for duels and battles, without the worry for either side being permanently injured or dying.
2002 (Fanon estimate) Hakurei Reimu becomes the current Hakurei Miko.
2003 through 2009 The events of the Windows Touhou games happen in this date range. Touhou 6 東方紅魔郷 ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (EoSD) [Summer 2003] The vampire Remilia Scarlet moves to Gensokyo, attempts to blot out the sun with a red mist, so she will not have to worry about the sunlight. She is stopped by Reimu and Marisa, but takes up residence in Gensokyo anyways. Touhou 7 東方妖々夢 ~ Perfect Cherry Blossom (PCB) [Winter 2003 - Spring 2004] Yuyuko Saigyouji, Queen of the Netherworld, attempts to steal spring, so she can bloom Saigyou Ayakashi, a Youkai Cherry Tree. This is for the purpose of seeing who the person sealed at the base of the tree is, who turns out to actually be Yuyuko's body, from when she used it to seal the tree. Touhou 7.5 東方萃夢想 ~ Immaterial and Missing Power (IaMP) [Summer 2004] A fog spreads over Gensokyo which seemed to make people party a lot. Reimu and others investigate, find the source was Suika Ibuki, one of the four Daevas of the mountain, trying to get the Oni to come back. Touhou 8 東方永夜抄 ~ Imperishable Night (IN) [Summer 2004] During July, a night fails to end for a while, human village briefly disappears. Afterwards, Eientei revealed existance to rest of Gensokyo. Reimu claims to have solved this, but refuses to give details. No one is really sure of what happened. Touhou 9 東方花映塚 ~ Phantasmagoria of Flower View (PoFV) [Spring 2005] Flowers possessed by ghost spirits proliferate Gensokyo, turns out to be part of a 60 year cycle, worsened by a lazy Shinigami. Touhou 10 東方儚月抄 ~ Silent Sinner in Blue (SSiB) [Spring 2007 - Winterr 2007] Yukari Manipulates Reimu, Marisa, and Remilia into attacking the moon, as part of a Convoluted plan to steal the Lunarian's Sake. Touhou 10 東方風神録 ~ Mountain of Faith (MoF) [Summer 2007] Moriya Shrine moves to Gensokyo, due to declining amounts of faith from outside world, attempts to take over Gensokyo, fails. Touhou 10.5 東方緋想天 ~ Scarlet Weather Rhapsody (SWR) [Summer 2008] A Celestial, Tenshi Hinanawi, wrecks Reimu's shrine with an earthquake, and gathers peoples temperments as weather. All this is a ploy for attention. Later, Shrine rebuilt, wrecked again, and rebuilt again. Touhou 11 東方地霊殿 ~ Subterranean Animism (SA) [Winter 2008] Moriya Shrine puts a conspiracy into effect, fails. Hell Raven almost sets world on fire. Hakurei Shrine gets Onsen (Hot springs) as a result. Touhou 12 東方星蓮船 ~ Undefined Fantastic Object (UFO) [Spring 2009] Due to Geyser erupting from previous game, followers of Buddhist Magician Youkai-civil-rights-activist, Hijiri Byakuren are released, enlist Reimu, Marisa, and Sanae's help to unseal said (Youkhrist/Youkai Jesus (Fanon nickname from travelling around helping and healing Youkai, and then being sealed for their sins)) mentor. Touhou 12.3 東方非想天則 ~ Unthinkable Natural Law (UNL) [Spring 2009] Giant figures repeatedly appear and vanish without a trace, different people find different things as the cause. (Sanae finds it is a giant Robot, Cirno finds Alice made a giant Doll.) Hong Meiling saves Gensokyo by punching out giant catfish in her dream.
2010 through 2019 Incidents continue, and are repeatedly solved by mostly Reimu and Marisa.

場所 - Places
Ancient City (SA) A part of the Underground, which once was the Hell of Blazing fires. Lies between the Bridge to Hell, and the Palace of the Earth Spirits. Many Oni, including Hoshiguma Yuugi, reside here and can easily be found partying and drinking in the streets. Suika Ibuki probably did before she went to the surface. The fiery lantern lit street is lined with traditional Japanese style homes. It can somehow still receive snowfall (Don't think about it too much). The citizens, though they don't get visitors often, will not turn them away.
Bamboo Forest of the Lost (IN) A bamboo forest, as the name says, where one can easily become lost. From the Human Village, walk away from the Youkai Mountain, and you will reach this place. Hidden within is Eientei. Mokou is know for guiding humans who get lost here back to the Human Village, and Inaba Tewi and her fellow rabbit youkai can often be seen scampering around.
永遠亭 - Eientei (IN) An old style, Japanese Mansion hidden in the Bamboo Forest of Lost. It's hallways somehow even extend into the sky. This mansion is inhabited by Houraisan Kaguya (the exiled Lunarian princess), Yagokoro Eirin (the leading scientist from the moon who was exiled with Kaguya), with Inaba Udongein Reisen (A moon rabbit who came in search of Eirin before IN) and Inaba Tewi (the leader of the earth rabbit youkai) protecting them from intruders. There is a Moon festival held every full moon at Eientei, in which the rabbits make Mochi (Rice paste treats) with medicine frome Eirin in them.
魔法の森 - Forest of Magic An ominous place, for evil and repulsive things...mostly. Due to the man-eating plants, and other ill fates one can meet in this forest, it's a great place to live if you don't want to be disturbed, should you be able to handle it. On the border of the forest is Kourindou (Rinnosuke's odds and ends shop), and deep in the forest are Marisa's house/Magic Shop and Alice's house.
幻想郷 - Gensokyo The Land of Illusions, where our stories take place...for the most part. This is the area encompassed by the Hakurei Barrier, which includes Youkai Mountain and its sub-areas, the Human Village, the Forest of Magic, the Bamboo Forest of Lost, and the Misty Lake, with the Hakurei shrine and Sanzu river (Which separates Gensokyo from Higan) on the edges.
白玉楼 - Hakugyokurou (PCB) The Japanese Palace of the netherworld. It is known in the netherworld for its impressive cherry blossoms, which many ghosts travel to see in the spring. The Mistress of the Netherworld, Yuyuko Saigyouji, lives here with her gardener/bodyguard, Youmu Konpaku, who is of a long line of half-ghost gardeners to Yuyuko. The Saigyou Ayakashi, the man-eating Youkai cherry blossom tree, can be found, dormant, in the immense gardens.
博麗神社 - Hakurei Shrine A small shrine on the border between Gensokyo and the outside world. It doesn't get many human visitors as of late. Hakurei Reimu lives here, and Suika spends much time here. It has also become a hangout for many of the youkai who Reimu has defeated, and become friends with to some extent or another. It was the only shrine in Gensokyo before the Moriya Shrine showed up. Over the course of SWR, it was destroyed and rebuilt twice.
Heaven (SWR) While not THE heaven, this realm of heaven known as Bhava-Agra can be reached by climbing Youkai Mountain. Tenshi Hinanawi and her family live here, as does Suika sometimes.
Hell of Blazing Fires (SA) Directly below the Palace of the Earth Spirits is the Hell of Blazing Fires. While it was fireless for a long time, it was recently reignited by Reiuji Utsuho, and is now being researched by the Kappa.
Human Village As stated, this is where most of the humans in Gensokyo live. Some Youkai do their shopping here, and for the humans who stumble in from the outside world, and decide to stay, it's pretty much their only location choice to avoid the youkai. Keine runs a school here, and Marisa's family (Which she is estranged from) runs a second-hand shop here. Reisen comes here to sell medicine, and Sakuya to shop for the Scarlet Devil Mansion group (Most of their furnature was made here). There was also a Buddhist temple opened up by Hijiri Byakuren after UFO.
香霖堂 - Kourindou On the edge of the Magic Forest is this shop, run by Morichika Rinnosuke. While technically a shop, it's more of a storehouse for his collection, of which he rarely, if ever, actually sells anything. Most of the time he either trades, or puts up with people "Borrowing" things from this collection. Many of the items from the outside world (Such as magazines, a gameboy, an iPod, and even a computer) end up here. Has been damaged (From disputes between occupants) and repaired many times.
魔界 - Makai (UFO, mentioned previously) Literally this means "Evil world." It is the realm of demons, with its entrance in the mountains near the Hakurei Shrine. Alice lived here, before moving to the Forest of Magic. Byakuren was sealed here, long ago, but has recently been unsealed by some of her followers.
迷ひ家 - Mayohiga (PCB) A village on the border of Gensokyo and the outside world. Those who wander near this village find themselves getting lost and disoriented. It is thought that Yakumo Yukari (and her Shikigami Yakumo Ran, as well as Ran's Shikigami Chen) might live here.
霧の湖 - Misty Lake (EoSD) A small lake at the bottom of Youkai Mountain. THere is an idland in the middle, where the Scarlet Devil Mansion sits.
月 - The Moon While not part of Gensokyo, or even really close, it's worth a mention. The Lunarians, or the people of the moon, are much more scientifically advanced than even the humans of the outside world. The Moon is a land, pure of "sin", meaning those who live there live much longer. However, the Moon rabbits, such as Reisen, are treated as second-citizens here. This is where Kaguya and Eirin came from, as well as where Eirin created the Hourai elixer, the elixer of immortality.
守矢の神社 - Moriya Shrine (MoF) A shrine that was transported from the outside world by Yasaka Kanako, along with a lake. It now sits near the top of Youkai mountain, with the lake. Kanako, as well as Kochiya Sanae and Moriya Suwako live here.
The Netherworld (PCB) The place where ghosts live, before they are reincarnated. While technically part of Gensokyo, there is a barrier high in the clouds that separate them. Hakugyokurou is located in this area.
地霊殿 - Palace of the Earth Spirits (SA) A western style Mansion, with many stained glass windows. It lies above the Hell of Blazing Fires, and was while it was once part of Hell, Hell has since been downsized, and this palace was removed, though many evil spirits still linger. The Komeiji sisters, Satori and Koishi live here, as well as their pets, Orin (Who carries corpses to the Hell of Blazing Fires, so as to maintain the heat) and Utsuho (Who keeps the heat going). Satori is the head of the Mansion, and the other pets tend the garden, and play with her little sister, Koishi.
騒霊屋敷 - Poltergeist Mansion The Home of the Prismriver Sisters. While it's denizens are most certainly not living, it is located slightly outside the Netherworld. It originally belonged to an aristocrat of the outside world, and was brought into Gensokyo via some ritual.
紅魔館 - Scarlet Devil Mansion (EoSD) The European style mansion of the Scarlet Family, which sits on a small island in the Misty Lake. There are few windows, due to the Scarlets, Remilia and Flandre, being vampires. There is a large staff that keeps the place running and tidy, most notably the Gatekeeper, Hong Meiling (A flower Youkai, born to practice Tai Chi. Often sleeps on the job), Patchouli Knowledge (A Magician Youkai, who runs the library), and Izayoi Sakuya (The head maid, and Remilia's personal attendant).
Underground Geyser Center (UNL?) This is a facility, recently build into the Youkai mountain. The Kappa do experiments here, with Reiuji Utsuho overseeing the nuclear energy research. (Kappa are the most technologically advanced being in Gensokyo besides Yukari, and possibly Eirin.)
Youkai Mountain Greatest Mountain in Gensokyo. The Kappa live at the base, and the Tengu at the top. Seeing as it's so full of Youkai, some of which very much dislike humans, most humans never come here. The White Wolf Tengu, including Inubashiri Momiji, protect the mountain. Aya Shameimaru, who writes the Bunbunmaru Newspaper (Gensokyo's own crappy tabloid!) also lives here with the Crow Tengu, including the Tengu Chief, Lord Tenma. Moriya shrine is also located near the top, and the Tengu have come to accept Kanako as a resident.

制度 - System
Now the Spellcard system is never really explained well in canon. The only things it states as a fact are these: It's a system that ensures neither side of any battle will be killed, and that it is in essence, a way to go easy on your opponent, while still going full out (However contradictory that may sound). Besides this fact, none of the details are clear, and some are contradicted from game to game.
Thus, for this RP, we will mostly base our Spellcard-style off of the Fighting games, with some of the Danmaku (Curtainfire) games styke mixed in where we can.
What does this mean? In essence, a Spellcard is just a really powerful attack, and you will not die from your battles.
Both Spellcards and normal attacks can be Melee or Ranged, and can be one attack/shot or a series of attacks/shots. You can consider yourself having a healthbar, rather than an amount of lives.
Even more basically, Take the Fighting Games' health system, and either style (Fighting game or Danmaku) of Spellcard, and you have our system. This means that Spellcards are basically just your most powerful attacks.
Also, all Spellcards will have a level. This will range from 1 to 9.
A level 1 Spellcard is not only pretty easy to dodge, but even getting hit isn't terrible. Examples include most of the stage 1 Danmaku game boss Spellcards on Easy (Exception being Cirno's "Icicle Fall -EASY-", which I am, for all intensive purposes, considering a Level 0), and most of the fighting game cost 1 Spellcards.
A level 4 Spellcard does pretty good damage, should it hit, and and can be relatively hard to evade or otherwise escape.
A level 8 Spellcard is immensely destructive, and very hard to dodge. Not only will your opponent probably get hit if you use one of these, but they will get his HARD. As for examples, think Marisa's Magicannon [Final Master Spark], [Double Spark], and Perverse Love [Easy Harvest Master Spark], or Reimu's Fantasy Heaven (SWR+UNL version) (Though this might be considered a 7 due to the problems involved in getting off 7 Melee hits in 30 seconds to activate it).
A level 9 Spellcard is the top of the pyramid. These are usually the techniques where the user disappears, and leaves you there to fend off the attack, without being able to really stop it, for a set period of time. In essence, if they weren't using the Spellcard system, these attacks would be unbeatable. This includes mostly things like Reimu's Fantasy Heaven (IN Version), where she floats out of reality to become unhittable, and throws danmaku at you; Yukari's Danmaku Bounded Field (Both Profound and normal versions are considered Level 9, though Profound is more difficult), in which she disappears, and leaves you there, with danmaku constantly surrounding you and coming in at you; also any other attack where the user is unhittable for the duration will be considered a Level 9, though if there's not enough offense, it may lower it to an 8 or 7.
